Connie Lee self talk is really powerful and if it's constantly negative then this affects self esteem. I talk a bit about this on my channel in videos too but it's really sad and I hope we can change this in more positive changes socially to make ads and marketing and conversations less focused on people feeling like they are lacking.

A good way is to pretend you are talking to your younger self whenever you say negative things. So if I say "You're such a loser" to myself, Instead I think of my younger self. And I think, ifmy younger self was a different child, would I still say to them, "You're such a loser." Would I treat other people like I treat myself? Why should I treat myself like crap, when I even refrain from treating actually bad people this way?

When a negative thought arises in my mind, I ask myself that how would that feel if the someone else says the exact same thing to me that I am thinking right now about myself? If I can't allow anyone else to hurt or offend me then why am I doing this to myself? When we get physically injured or wounded, we rush to get the band-aid. We don't try to deepen the wound as that would be illogical. but a why don't we have the same approach for the emotional injury? Why do we let these hurtful thoughts keep damaging us emotionally or psychologically?

Ok, let's try ten things... Oof. Here goes... 1. I love my ability to create stories (fantasy specially is a passion of mine) 2. I admire my courage to speak up, in public, as I am doing now 3. I am resilient, stubbornly so, and I keep trying to be authentic and to be better every single day 4. I admire the bravery I have to delve deep into my soul and make peace with my "demons", because I truly believe myself and others to deserve the best of me 5. I love my taste and passion for food and cooking. Thanks to my mom's insistence I can nowadays enjoy most ingredients and cuisines, and that's just so much yummy! 6. I love my love for the outdoors, heat and exercise, and I may not practice it as much, but I have not yet given up on learning martial arts, even though I'm nearly 30 and have been dreaming of it since I was 5! 7. Although imperfect, I admire my commitment to be empathic and kind to others, so they may never suffer; and I admire my capacity to feel guilty over the damage I've done, and to try to rectify it. 8. I admire my good judgement and capacity for forethought; it has saved me and guided me in making some sane financial and interpersonal decisions. 9. I am friendly af. Gods, I could befriend a lamp post lol 10. I admire my curiosity, capacity and desire for learning and travel and adventure, and the gifts and many talents I've been given. ... Bonus, 11. I admire how I'm always trying my best, even when depression keeps telling me I'm better off dead. I really need to read these to myself more often :)

Sophie Kim I went through the same thing. Essentially, that is psychological abuse. I used to be bubbly and outgoing and then my ex happened and his words and abuse happened. I have been going to therapy for a while now but it seems that it is 1 step forward and then 2 steps back. It takes time. Just remember not to be too harsh on yourself and try to stay around people that make you feel good about yourself. 💛 Good luck!!

@@isabellafilby3931 I'm experiencing it now. My wife is extremely critical. As in huge dramas 1-2 a day. After about a year I had a mental break down which was 4 months ago. Since then been so tough. We just been to a therapist 2 days ago and she is really trying to stop the criticism. So tough for me to decide to stop or continue. I love her and want to get through these tough times together. She had a tough childhood and really loves me. We married so I can't just walk away. At the same time she needs to change. If I allow the abuse to continue I wont be able to build anything and contribute to this world.

I have done lots of cool things, all because I'd never done it before. I am daring, brave, and adventurous. 7. I admire the way I am practicing radical honesty better each day. 8. I appreciate the good head I have on my shoulders. I think I've done what I've needed to do to survive, and have lived an incredible story. 9. I love how my teeth are naturally straight. 10. I've always believed and still believe that self-esteem builds up self-confidence.And self-esteem can be built not only by ourselves, but also by the people around us. I've seen many people that tend to give compliments to their friends, they just start sending positive thoughts to them by the idea of acknowledging them and believing in them. That's usually what makes people think positively about themselves ignoring the negative thoughts that are usually brought up by their enemies or friends.

@MrNdukwe9 жыл бұрын
Hey, I don't who you are, your background, or whatever you have done to make you feel this way about yourself, but I just want to say that you are capable of becoming a better person. I felt (and at times still kind of feel) the same way myself, and I realized that it stems from comparing myself to others whose personalities, accomplishments, situations, etc. appear better than mine. I am convinced that you have accomplished something great in your life, but you are constantly undermining it by looking at others' accomplishments. If anything, I commend you for whatever it is you have done in your life, whether it is an everyday accomplishment or a milestone such as completing school, getting a promotion at work, or simply being smart with your money for the month. I urge and encourage you to not focus too heavily on others so that you can continue using your strengths and improving your areas for growth (not "weaknesses"). You are definitely not a s****y person; you are a great person.

Destinee I am really insecure as well. I used to see myself the same way you describe. Though I'm still somewhat in that mindset, I have improved. I imagined a person I want to be, someone inexistent. It's not someone I know. I imagined myself, as this kind, caring, talented person. I thought, if that's who I want to be, I have to work toward it. Everybody is a piece of work. But nothing happens if we don't make an effort to change. It's hard, and I've fallen back many times. But it's just something we have to keep persevering through. I know you can do it.

Happiness and self esteem r so elusive they come and go. I remember from about 16 to 20 i was very confident. Now its been a couple years of losing my mojo. Life happened and it took my self image with it. Trying to build it back up again but it seems easier to wallow in self pity. Its easier when u have a busy social life and get out of ur comfort zone. High school helped cuz there r so many people to talk to. It takes lots of effort. 12 step groups helped alot too cuz i could use many mentors. Sad thing is u have to find ur own way cuz 90 percent of our daily conversations have nothing to do with how we truly feel about lifuuue and urself but these r conversations we need to have. Be willing to listen to others who seem to have self esteem if u don't have it.

Important Clippings: - Self-esteem is based on our own thoughts, and we can control our own thoughts, so we should be able to control our self-esteem. 1. The first thing we can do to feel good about ourselves, is to hang out with people who make us feel good about ourselves. 2. The second thing is we can turn up the volume on that positive thinking. We can build up those thoughts about ourselves that are good and delete the negative thoughts. 3. The third thing is starting to tell the people around you what you like about them. Jump start their own positive thinking. 4. And the last thing is that when we receive a compliment, stand our ground, and just say: “Thank You.” - To Do: 1. Be somebodies support and help them find themselves 2. Get out a piece of paper and write down 10 things that you admire about yourself. Even things that somebody else might even be jealous of.

If you're a kid or a teenager reading this, I hope you learn to love yourself. Your self-worth should not be in the grades you make on a test but it should be within yourself. I thought I was dumb and stupid as a kid/teen because I always failed tests, didn't know how to study effectively and barely made it out of high school. Looking back I now know that the reason why I did so horrible in school was because I didn't believe in myself. I actually really believed deep down that I was stupid and worthless. The most important thing you can learn is how to love yourself, respect yourself and honor yourself. How to believe in yourself even when no one else does. How to be kind to yourself as well. I hope you will take the time every day to develop your self-esteem. I'm 27 now and I WISH that all of this was taught to me as a kid.

I have a low self esteem but low self esteem is only a problem when it's a problem duhh because i have a low self esteem and a pessimist most of the time i think the worst case scenario first and it's not a bad thing because most of the time it makes you more observant, carefull, and thoughtful. Or am i wrong?

I have had a real problem with getting the thoughts out of my head verbally in times when it seems the most important, and in an effort to learn how to be more confident in myself, I have started a personal experiment. I am recording myself speak. I absolutely hate to see myself speak, it is extremely hard, but since exposure to what scares me seems to work, I believe that by forcing myself to practice speaking to myself instead of in my head or through writing.. I may be able to speak my mind more clearly. My body language screams lack of confidence, and maybe by being aware and changing what I see I will be able to better communicate with others. This is a good video, thank you for the tips.

I've been watching a lot of video's lately about self confidence, to share with other girls..... I had no idea how serious of an issue this is..... especially that suicide is the number 3 killer of teens...... thanks for speaking up about this and being vulnerable about your past. I hope you've worked out your self esteem issues completely, because it's quite obvious that you're an incredible human being. Thank you ❤

This might work for some but to a great extent it seems she's drawing a line from "achievement" to "self-esteem". For instance "I'm a good artist". If my self-esteem is depending on the quality of my art it will also crumble when I struggle in my artistic endeavours. I can't help to think that self-esteem is something that ought to exist on a deeper level, not being linked to how good or bad I am at something.

When I watched this, I cried. Thank you so much. For this. Thank you so much for what you are doing for young women. I never realized how I dis guard myself because I compare myself to the "idea of the Ideal girl" But even to my friends, who are more successful than I am, there's this quote I have on my wall, that I regard it to my relationship status and friends even to family, because by my age, all 3 of them have one of the two things what I dream of my life to be like at this age and that wasn't business success, but really I should just apply it to my whole life. When I get together with my friends next week, I want them to watch this and I want to make an everyday effort to make sure they know they are beautiful inside and out.

Hey there folks! I am working on helping re-imagine a better high school experience here in the US. Do any of you know (or are you) students who are in high school outside the US? I would like to do short interviews with kids going to high school outside their native country and have had a global high school experience (they can be US kids or otherwise, but for now need to speak English). Thanks for your help!!

This hit me hard even as an adult I have struggled to find value in myself and have allowed others to cast me aside and use that as reinforcement when I would think about myself and my worth. I mean if I had value I wouldn't be cast aside right? Or so I thought. Its been a long battle to get better, but it is possible. If you've just starting that journey please don't give up you deserve to know what is like on the other side of your fear and doubt. YOU define your worth not others. YOU are capable of changing your thoughts and YOU have so much to give to yourself. We have no need to compare because we are all different in our own beautiful ways and we should take that and lift ourselves up. And if you know someone who is struggling themselves send them here, help them find the tools to challenge their thoughts and just be there for them. Please be an ally to your friends and loved ones struggling to see their worth, it could really make all the difference.

Great video. I really liked the "10 things you like about yourself" part. I found it hard to go past 2 initially. At the end of the exercise, I was left a lot de-stressed and ended feeling a lot better about myself. Its tough to find the Julie you talk about. That's probably the easiest and best way to sustain the thought. Are there any alternative ways you can suggest to keep this mindset going.
@nikoeverett25579 жыл бұрын
Shyam Sundar Hey there! I totally hear you about it being hard to find your Julie, she is one of a kind! BUT they are out there and if you are clear you are looking for a solid friend who can be positive with you, you will find them. In the meantime, here are a few steps to helping create and sustain the positive mindset for yourself: 1) notice our nagging negative thoughts.They are tricky little critters and are sometimes so habitual that we almost don't realize we are having them. So we actually have to listen carefully for them.2) take a deep breathWe need to pause for a second here and power up to change our thinking3) turn our attention away from these thoughts and towards pleasureFind a thought or something nearby that pleasures us.This can be anything! Today it was my sneakers, I pulled them out of the depths of my closet and love them. Yesterday it was the perfect temperature of the air which felt nice on my cheek.4) stay with this positive feeling, just let it roll around like a marble in your palm. If a smile or giggle is bubbling up, let it surface, maybe even exaggerate it. Feel the good feeling all the way.I have been doing these 4 steps many times each day because I have been noticing my habitual subtle nagging thoughts and the great news is that I have been getting to bubble up small pots of pleasure, smiles and giggles in all sorts of places! I am giggling writing this with the thought that it might be useful for you too.Give it a try. Write me back and tell me what you think. What was hard, what was awesome, what would you do differently. Let's figure this out because imagine if the millions of people who, like us, feel consumed by these negative thoughts, could step back into the positive, fiery people they are! Let's start this revolution OK? I am game if you are!
