Had started taking multiple tries to stand up. Had no idea it was a serious sign. Thanks.

I'm the poster child for this video. After my stroke, I was diagnosed with foot drop and provided the plastic afo, exactly the one you dislike. Fast forward, I return home after discharge from rehab and end up falling backwards three times - twice backwards down flights of stairs. Bruises only, fortunately. I ultimately, thanks largely to your videos, learned that I didn't really have foot drop, it was spasticity. A year of intensive working out , I now wear no afo and have virtually no spasticity. I would strongly, strongly recommend that everyone watch this video and practice these exercises religiously. You CAN make a significant recovery by educating yourself with these excellent videos and working hard and smart.

@fleetfootedtexan For both my arm and lower leg/ankle, a lot of strength exercises over several months. But I will also tell you that a great contributor to my spasticity was fear and anxiety. Muscular strengthening gave me the confidence to overcome the anxiety and fear of falling. The mental and the muscular aspects, for me anyway, required equal amounts of attention. Also, the spasticity is now manageable but it's not completely eliminated. It's just manageable.

Thank you so much for responding to a recent comment requesting exercises on this exact problem. Even though you are far, far away you are making a material difference in my wife’s stroke recovery. Resources are scant in many rural counties so your videos are God sent! Thank you ever so much.

In the early stages, I had a problem getting up from deep sitting, for example an armchair or couch. I solved it by helping myself move forward with my unaffected hand to the edge and then standing up by moving the center of gravity forward. After a few months I was getting up normally. It's still harder for me to get out of the car sideways after a long drive. Have a nice week.

Very valuable information for us who have experienced fear of falling or actually falling backwards resulting in serious injury. (Falling back is the worst especially when you can't stop or grab onto something then waking up in trauma units) Thanks, from a relatively newer member.

Other videos, i can both see and face a lot of improvement. You are blessed with humility and a humble heart. Ensure you cover the points or answer the queries we raise, ensure you give an apt solution. You are a gem of a person. The way you both brief and show the exercise , not alone gives a feel good factor. It also boosts our confidence that yes one can try the exercise . Get well soon . Love you loads dr ❤❤

I have a lot of spastic areas, lately it got to my back. I find myself falling backwards even while sitting. I also have weak abs, spastic legs and right hand. It's quite frustrating, but the back is the worst, because I can't even bend forward while on a chair. What can I do in such case?
