This amazing Trinidadian street snack will have you dribbling for more!
If you remember the days when you could go by de parlour down de road and buy 10 of these for a dollar then you're true Trini! I remember it used to be soaked in chutney and that's all I used to spend my money on in school.
One of my really good friends back in Trini, shared this recipe with me and I practiced many times until I was good at it.
Try it and tell me what you think!
Ingredients:
5 cups of flour
1/2 cup of dhal or split peas powder
1-2 teaspoons saffron or turmeric powder (some brands are more potent than some)
5 tsps of yeast or 2 packets
5 tsps green seasoning
1 tbsp salt
3-4 cups of lukewarm water

Your recipes are the best I have tried, the original Trinidad techniques like what my mom did! There are other sites but they have modified the original, and some of them still have a lot to learn like (Caribbean Pot). I like the way you give exact proportions and measurements, this really helps especially for beginners who may not be good at averaging the ingredients. I also like when you fast forward to save time, but you do show them demonstrations first. I also like that you do show the end product so ppl can see what it looks like. Great work!!! My mom and aunts have all passed on but having your videos is priceless!!! One request, can you please do a Carhee recipe with exact measurements? Thank you your biggest fan!!! I have been recommending you to all my friends and family! By the way your make up looks great! You are truly beautiful inside out!!!

i don't have split peas powder so i use baking powder instead and it came out great i tried the tam bran chutney that came out great thanks so much for this i like making things for my daughter to take to school so she don't have to buy it

I did enjoy your video. You did an excellent job explaining everything because I also love to cook. You did it in beautiful Trini accent and it also showcased our culture. I would not add the seasoning but the variations in cooking is varied...

Either you use 1 teaspoon of baking powder or 1 packet yeast depends on how much you are making. 🤗

Great recipe! but just to clarify to folks. Tumeric is "Called" safaron in trini. they are 2 different spices. turmeric is a root, safaron is a flower stem and the cost is much higher.

+Sienna Ramdass nah I don't do it that way either. I do it by hand but using my fingertips. Dip fingers in water, grab a good amount of phulourie batter, fashion into a ball with your fingers and then drop into the oil. I just was never able to make ROUND phulourie like how she does in the video by grabbing the batter with her hands. Practise makes perfect :)

After putting together the mixture for the pholourie, how long can it be kept before frying them up?

You can leave it overnight in the fridge but I would suggest, no longer than 8 hours

How much split peas powder in two cups of flour? Its just for two 😊 since i saw 1/2 cup for 5 cups of flour 😟

Put about 1 tablespoon. It depends on how strong of the dhal flavour you want 😉
