MK 2 was always my favorite. Don't forget that there's a secret Shang Tsung fatality where if you hold Low Punch for 30 seconds (I usually just hold it for the whole fight so I don't forget) at the finish him about a character length in front, then release and you will transform into Kintaro and punch the top half of their body apart. It's easily the best fatality in the game.

25:17 - Yes, there IS an ending for Smoke (and Jade, Noob Saibot, Kintaro and Shao Kahn), as well as all of the other characters. The endings feature the (full-size, not shrunken as in the Super NES version) color portraits from the arcade, not just scrolling text as in the standard MK2 for Genesis. Additionally, Shao Kahn has least five taunts in MK2 Unlimited, though he still does not have all of the taunts from the arcade (Try playing as Shao Kahn; press High Kick while holding Back to taunt). I have MK2 Unlimited in real cartridge form to play on a real Genesis (not an emulator). Were you playing this on a real Genesis, and if so, which Genesis (Model 1, Model 2, CDX, Nomad, or Model 3)? I play this on a non-TMSS Genesis Model 1 High Definition Graphics system (the one that was packaged with Altered Beast) and I have never seen the screen black out upon beating the game; I always see the graphic ending. After the ending, the game goes into "Supreme Demonstration," where all of the characters perform Fatalities, Friendships, Babalities, and Brutalities on each other, before going into the cast of characters and the end credits. However, once all of this ends and the game reboots, it crashes before the intro sequence (You must hit RESET or turn the Genesis off and back on if you want to keep playing).

Genesis made it a point to have all the idle animation frames to make it look great just by looking at it right off the bat. Though, frames were cut from certain moves. SNES has more consistent frame choice across the board. Genesis 'front loaded' theirs for first impressions.

Hey Brother cool play true 'bummer" at the ending screen thou. This version looks well balanced between game play and sound (MD). Looks like this can be fun. You know street fighter use to have like a million different versions out back in the day now I never thought that mortal kombat games have the same kinda thing. The version I’m playing however is 1.0 which may be why it crashed at the end I’m not sure. The 32X and PSX have great versions of MK2 so great picks! Just to confirm, after watching this video I played the exact same game on my Analogue Mega SG with Smoke and it definitely didn't crash and showed his ending bios, however it did crash on the opening intro after the ending and credits as confirmed by others on here. Sometimes games behave differently depending on which model console they're being played on. In our defense they're cheap repros made in China and usually asking the seller questions gets us nowhere as they have no clue half the time what products they're actually selling on account of them getting all their stock from a separate supplier. Buyer = ''Is this PAL or NTSC?'' Seller = We sell game card, you like, you buy''. Buyer = ''I want the 2011 version of MKII Unlimited'' Seller = '' Either no response or a vague anwser like ''Not sure, you get what you get''.

I used to think this was the best version of Mortal Kombat II on the Mega Drive as I own a loose cart of it too, but in recent years i've gravitated more towards the standard MKII on Mega Drive as the one thing that really bothers me in this version is the inclusion of all the Mortal Kombat 1 stages. MKII is meant to be a tournament hosted by Shao Kahn in the Outworld and MK1 tournament is set in Earth Realm so the inclusion of all the MK1 stages doesn't really make sense? Looks like this tournament is set in both Outworld and Shag Tsung's Earth Realm island. The other weird thing is that when playing as Shang Tsung in the Throne Room stage, you still see the old codger Shang Tsung sitting on his throne, they should have removed him like in Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy. Don't remember that crash happening with Smoke? I remember the game crashing after the credits when the intro started up again. 😎

Nice! If this was the original version on the Genesis, it definitely would've had higher overall marks total than the SNES version & I would've rather played this than the SNES. What a difference a bunch of sound effects, playable characters & extra MK1 stages can do. Now if they could do an Unlimited for SNES where they add the intro screens, the MK1 stages & de-compress the sound effects, that would even things up, but until then Genesis does what Nintendon't. Hopefully the ending glitch can get ironed out

The main "issues" with the Genesis hardware, IMHO, is that only the core of the the Genesis is 16-bit. In terms of sound and graphics, it's not really 16-bit. Mostly underexploited GFX and underexploited sound chip. That's why it does sound "cheap" and sometimes looks "cheap" too, although I love the Genesis ! It had outstanding games when programmed by the righ ppl.

The hatred I have for this hack is unimaginable. . 1. They could have saved the memory & energy and not include mk1 stages & boss characters. . 2.they should have used all the time to fix all the colors as much as they can.! Every color in this game is the wrong tone & hue . 3.included the right sfx & voices . 4.inclcued the intro cutscenes and ending cutscenes. . 5.add missing animations Like when characters fall after being uppercut or jump kicked. They don’t just fall with their legs stretched out alone . That is all we ask for, not anything that was not in there .

@@fernandeaux1631 There are two ROM hack revisions of this hack. A 2009 version and a 2011 version. The 2009 version does not have the intro story screen and you do no damage to your opponent when they block. Darryl has the 2011 version which has the intro story screen, I have the same 2011 version but I don't remember it crashing on Smoke's ending?

Very good version. The only bad thing is those unnecessary MK1 scenarios, they are very ugly and out of context. Then I see that he has the narrator name each champion. Things are missing like the screams of the trees, the superimposed chains of the first scenario. Several things that need to be improved. Still excellent hack.
