There are plenty of really good quality companies who make great "real" wheels and then take someone else's design and copy it cause the classics always sell doesnt mean they sacrifice quality

But if I wanted new wheels I wouldn't naturally just gravitate towards genuine or strictly look at reps. I'd buy what I like and what I actually think the wheels are worth. If you had bread though couldn't you import some from another country?
@f1fan30007 ай бұрын
@@yourfirsthouseinminecraft4531 The import cost+import wheel is oftentimes far more expensive than the domestic wheel. For example, in Germany, you'll need to find a TÜV engineer who is willing to do an individual approval of the wheel first, which is not that easy. Then you'll have to pay more money for this individual approval. A domestic rep wheel, which is TÜV certified for general use on your vehicle, is cheaper and can just be installed and instantly legally driven on your stock car, when the paper doesn't include any special obligations. You just have to carry the papers in your car. These TÜV-certified rep wheels are safe too, as their material strength has been tested by the TÜV. That at least, is roughly the situation in Germany. Solid video. As a person who has purchased many "real wheels" NEW, Advan Racing, Volk Racing, and Enkei Racing wheels. I can confidently say... I do not care if you're on reps. You're not better for owning real wheels and you aren't taking away money from the likes of Mackin Industries, or Enkei... Enkei is the largest OEM manufacturer of wheels, MST Suzuka's are not taking away market share for RPF1s. Mackin is the largest aftermarket wheel manufacturer, they are not worried about Rota copying them. Also, I want to highlight something I find extremely interesting. Between my te37SL, advan rsIII and enkei rpf1 all three sets feel the same when I park and drive on the street and they feel the same on track, Which says something because it's two different companies and 3 different brands & designs. News flash !!!! race tracks don't have potholes, they're smooth, maintained surfaces. If you break a wheel on track it's because you hit a curb too hard, or dropped a tire off track and hit a curb... or god forbid crashed into someone driving or a barrier (all 3 wheels weigh roughly the same therefore they feel the same, I never put on brand name wheels and instantly went faster around the track lol). But the same tech in your RPF1 is in your gram lights, and Advan wheels... is in your Konigs and Motegi racing wheels. This "flow-formed" rotary forging process is accessible all over the world (in terms of wheel brand names)... just cuz its a rep doesn't mean anything, technology is technology regardless of brand... they aren't going to explode, the second you hit a small bump. Race tracks will break any wheel, forged or not... and let's be real... You're not actually tracking the way you want the internet to think so chances are you aren't going to break anything unless make a big mistake. To make my last point. the only people who have ever cared about whether or not I have a real or rep wheel and arguably the only people who give a damn are the dorks at your cars and coffee/dog water parking lot meet at night and show car judges. But having reps will not immediately disqualify you from a trophy. Run what you can afford and what fits your aesthetic, simple as that it's a community. There are pro drift drivers running xxr's on their car... not once has a wheel exploded from drifting on track. Reps aren't garbage, the only thing that's garbage is that mindset of "you NEED to own real wheels". Go have fun with your car and do what you want, and if you dont like what someone has done, dont do it to your own car, plain and simple.
@Justin-wheels7 ай бұрын

Finally someone who isn't a moron on this topic. Most people using the term reps don't even know what they mean. Companies that started out making "reps" make some of the best wheels on the market. I'm the type of person that would legitimately rather run Konig Dekagram or Hexaform, both using the same flow forming tech Enkei uses on the RPF-1, than a lot of "real" wheels. Why would I want to pay $1,000 per wheel so that I can be afraid of the tire shop ruining them or scratching them on road debris when I can pay $150-250 per wheel and get the same weight and still good looks? To me, value is a consideration in what I but. I couldn't give less of a damn about posing and bragging something was expensive. At any rate, there are surely wheels to avoid, but most of the aftermarket is perfectly acceptable for daily driving or even track use. A lot of the popular real wheels truly are ugly too. Oh, and Zendaya is gorgeous IDK what you are on about there. IDC much about celebrities in general either though.

Well said. I love the look of TE37s, but for my daily-drive Impreza (that will never see competitive racing) I went with the Avid-1 AV06. Same look, decent quality and weight. If I planned to track my car, I'd probably go function over form and get the lightest, strongest wheels I could afford - or run the best tires that fit on the oem wheels - rather than reps. What wasn't mentioned in this video is that there are varying levels of quality among the replica wheel manufacturers, although I realized this video is about the pecking-order in the car community rather than a technical overview. Many "reps" are just fine on the street, while some are just downright crap and therefore dangerous if you live anywhere near potholes. I don't subscribe to "respect all builds" but I don't see any reason to put down people who bought cheaper wheels, as long as they know what they have and are using them within the scope of their design.

Well said bro, though I would argue that reps have their place on track/purpose built cars where it’s apparent that it’s gonna be beaten on, and there’s really no appeal to dust a $2500 set of forged wheels on a rwd daily that occasionally sees a track or canyon day, and will inevitably get totalled. It’s an uninsured purchase that doesn’t retain value, and their survivability is at the whim of a single unlucky pothole or in my case, a chunk of asphalt. I’d continue to argue the singular benefit of buying real wheels is their construction; ie strength/weight, which is objectively superior and as you said, is never really argued. That being said, I think their place is more on stock/fbo daily builds, or serious, dedicated track vehicles in which the rotational mass actually matters, but besides those two applications, everything else in between doesn’t appeal to those benefits. People that complain about real wheels or reps cracking because their slammed shitbox on stretched rubber bands need to grow up, I absolutely agree, but simultaneously, I don’t think I’d ever buy real wheels again. In a saturated market, a solid set of un-scuffed reps can be anywhere from $400-1000, and I will spend that $1000+ I saved buying reps on parts that make a significantly more noticeable impact or gain, 100% of the time. I know the car is temporary, I know the wheels are temporary, they’re both gonna get beaten on and abused, and it’s never gonna be worth it to be to spend the extra couple Gs when that money could go into higher quality suspension, a better tune, a bigger turbo, preventive mods, etc, all of which will be significantly more beneficial to my goals as to something that’s ultimately a cosmetic difference with fractional weight savings. (And this is coming from having a completely gutted, fully built track car with a single carbon seat)

I think going on reps is fine unless you are running big HP cars and you do track racing, you are not only putting your life at risk but also the competitors and the track itself, rep wheels can really crack on a track when hitting a corner (It also includes rally jumps). If you race a stock 1.6/1.8 na/nb miata reps are fine, BUT if you LS swap it or put a big turbo, start thinking about some strong wheels and light weight wheels.

I ran stocks for a while and genuinely liked them, but for Christmas my grandma offered to buy me a set of wheels I chose as long as I payed for the tires and I’m truly grateful, I picked bronze Konig lockouts for my dark blue gti and I had rpf1 konig reps on my nb Miata I know konig isn’t in that high class real wheel category but I’ve loved both sets in looks and they aren’t real rpf1 light but they’re lighter than stocks lol

I always used to run different OEM wheels on my cars. I ran Integra LS webs on my EK, CD Accord 5 spokes on my CB7, and EK Civic HX alloys on my EF (the latter being one of the lightest rims Honda ever made)

Going for the used market is a great way to get wheels on a budget. Just make sure the wheels are not bent and your good to go, you might be able to save some some budget for a new coating. It takes more effort, but really is rewarding.

I would rather see rep wheels that look good, than real wheels that look like garbage. Wheels should not only complement the vehicle, but ideally also be performance enhancing. Granted, showpiece wheels may not be performance enhancing, but it definitely better complement the vehicle. Way too many ugly wheels on vehicles lately, that doesn't do anything for the vehicle, other than look ugly.

I just threw on some Avid1 AV20 wheels on my 23 wrx and love the look. Could I have used a credit card and bought some of my loftier choices? Yep. Would I prefer to enjoy my car and know I owe nothing on the car or any parts on it...also yep. I'm too old to give a crap about some kid's opinion of me. Great video and I agree completely. You do you and don't try to make me like ugly wheels.

I bought a set of MB crux at a junkyard because I was broke and needed tires asap. $360 for a full set on tires that had nearly new tread and under 1 year old. I was already searching and had a 3d printed version of my hub and they passed the test. Was it a gamble? Yes. Am I happy with them? Also yes

Same thing happened to me. Bought my first set of wheel not knowing anything about reps. Just wanted something that looked good within a specific budget. But hey now I know. And I have zero regrets. Save myself a good chunk of change and bought myself quality tires instead 🤷🏽♂️.

My first pair of wheels were Enkei M52’s on my 1997 Ford Taurus SHO. They looked good for the car being a bathtub, especially I upgraded the suspension, rotors and brakes. I miss that car, it wasn’t breaking records. but it’s sound when you were on back roads. Obviously I was humble, I drove a late 90’s Ford.
@GrahamTurismo7 ай бұрын
I’ve come to learn over the years with trial and error that cheaping out on parts not only gives cheap results, but might even be more expensive because you’ll have to buy the same part twice. And when they break prematurely, you’ll have to do the same job twice. When you spend the extra money for the more established brand names, you’re spending extra money for the R&D that went into developing those parts for a specific outcome. Who cares if RPF1s are overrated, people like them for a reason. Maybe they’re not the most original choice of wheels, but they are amazing wheels for the price, offer great performance benefits with being so lightweight, and look great on almost any car.

Buying reps for a non-show street-car isn’t cope it’s a good financial decision. Especially if the rep is made using the same method as the real wheel. Even if it isn’t the street can destroy any wheel if you aren’t paying attention and hit the right pothole. How do you think people crack their stock wheels with thick tires? If you have any sense of style you can pick a wheel that will look good on your car whether it’s real or a rep. Just like people who work 2 jobs to wear designer brands to impress people they don’t even like. That person in the car world is the person running a used set of real wheels on a complete pos car that barely has any other mods. The real wheel is their only way to seek validation from people who do not care about them the moment they drive out the parking lot. Buy what you like and use it for its intended purpose. Most important pay attention to what you are about to roll over so you don’t spend a ton of cash on your real wheels only to bend them to the point of not being repairable. Now you have to run 2 of them and two of your stock wheels because you can’t afford to replace just one. Making your car look even worse in the process to people who know nothing about the hobby aka most people…

My first and only set of aftermarket wheels are a set of TRM C4s. They're the Great Value of TE37s. 14 years of having a license and go figure the first and only time I've ever curbed a wheel was with those reps. After I was done kicking my own ass over it, I had the thought of "well thankfully they're reps and not real."

Cragar 380s Rally II's? (on a modestly lowered c1500 short bed pick up?) 17'' to replace stock 15'' wheels. 8'' wide front, 9'' wide rear. Staggered tires, goodyear eagle rs-a's. Wheels are such a money sink though. I always end up using the money for other parts of the vehicle. Wheels feel like a finishing touch after all other aspects of the car are completed.

I'm sure there could be other stuff like "how much offset is cringe" and "what is the latest model year you can put Watanabes on" and "will Regamasters get me a girlfriend". These videos are great though, thanks

I can’t really care about which brand I’m buying, most spline thin spokes look the same, the spiderweb spokes are TOO much in design language. 5 or 6 spokes look nice but are too expensive and white is a premium. On my black C30 T5. My pick is the OEM 18” R design Pegasus wheels or OZ white rally racing. There’s a few variants of a 5 spoke white one that Volvo used for the touring C30 race cars. Those ones are fairly light, and very tasteful in complimenting the rest of the car.

I got "rep" wheels because the actual ones couldn't be obtained in the offset I wanted... also the wheel in question is cast just as the reps are... the style of wheel isn't even exclusive to the manufacturer most people recognize and call them by... and lastly, to get the offset I wanted I had to do a special order which cost just about as much as the genuine wheels and like them... I had to wait months to get them... in the end, do you
