In the late 80s, early 90s I was lucky enough to fly on Corp G-2s. No hush kit at first and no fly by wire. The company also had a 10 seat "wide-body' fly by wire Canada Air. Pilots preferred the manual control of the G2. Even got to land in the jump seat once when I was the only passenger on the plane after we dropped off our VIP. Wonderful experience 😁

I’ve been slacking on the tech Tuesday Vids! I just binged watched three of them in a row ( LOL ) to catch up! That’s an impressive brake system on that. It’s like six disc brakes in one unit. Reminds me of a clutch in a motorcycle, only without the lubricant. I was amazed at the size of that fuel line too! Looked like an inch and a half around! That can flow some serious fuel volume! Thanks for doing all these, Shaun - much appreciated!

Here I thought aircraft maintenance was just, "Change the oil, kick the tires and park it out back." :-) All-in-all, your Tech Tuesdays makes one appreciate why aircraft are such a high dollar ($$$) item in all respects. Truly wonders of engineering.

These videos are so cool! To see the BELLY OF THE BEAST up close is Awesome! To someone never seeing the inside of the wheel well, it looks so scarry with all the fuel and hydraulic lines right next to the spinning tires, but knowing the safe engineering behind the whole design it's a piece of art!!! Idea: how about showing a split screen of using the yoke trim and seeing it in action on the elevator. Thought it would be cool to see! THANK YOU for taking the time to do these videos for us!!!! Stay Safe!!!!

Excellent stuff Shaun as usual! Very interesting looking into the systems that you had exposed. It is this forward thinking that always makes your tech Tuesdays usually a winner, you think outside the box as they say. That is why you are director of operations (I think that is your title please let me know if I am incorrect)now! Love the tech and flying videos you spend time on - I realize how busy you are in operations so I really appreciate anything that you have time to put out. Bummed you are not flying everyday though. Keep up the tremendous work bud - Greg

Sometimes I look at an aircraft that is in bits and wonder how it hangs together and works. I think I would over engineer one to the point it wouldn't take off. Seeing a helicopter stripped down really make you think, there is not much holding it all together! It really does make you think sometimes! Then you see the big Antonov An-225 Mriya and it makes you wonder how the hell it ever tales off, fill it up with a couple of Train Locos and away it goes! Seeing a Jumbo take of or come into land, but the big Airbus made out of composite materials, wow, it is basically plastic mixed with other materials and it takes off with two decks of people and cargo. It is something to make the brain hurt thinking about it. Keep the videos coming, nice to see behind usual set up.

I just started watching your videos this week after being linked as a similar video as Premier1driver which I've watched for a bit not. I had a short stint with doing private jet interiors after working on Entertainment buses and I really enjoyed working on Hawkers mainly. I'd love to get back into jets in a Florida setting. I lived in Clearwater for 30 years and moved to Nashville 6 years ago. Maybe someday something will open up down in the Atlantic side that I could continue with jets soon. COVID has screwed the Entertainment industry at the moment but private jets are gaining momentum lately. Love your videos and I'll continue watching.

Shaun, who runs the systems during hanger time? Do the mechanics know the plane well enough to run the flaps, gear, etc or do they get a pilot to come out and run them while they monitor and access them?
@CorporatePilotLife

Yep...the mechanics handle all that stuff
@troyjollimore4100

Flaps, gear, etc... are mostly just 'flip a switch' systems. Not too difficult for a mechanic to figure out. ;) Unlike flying, they can easily figure out how to operate multiple types, though they still get training.

2:03 Surprised to see the same type of brake as on my old Columbia bicycle coaster brake. Not like automotive disc brakes. Also like a clutch pack in an automatic transmission. I would think this type of disk pack brake type would get incredibly hot being enclosed and not liquid cooled. But i guess the multiple disks give more surface area for braking and cooling as opposed to automotive type disc brakes.
@troyjollimore4100
@troyjollimore4100 3 жыл бұрын
The fact they're completely enclosed is why they're designed like this. They can heat sink a LOT of energy! Too much for a conventional multi-disc system to dissipate.

I feel a bit taken aback at how much can go wrong on these planes, like the jack screw you mentioned. What about fly-by-wire aircraft, aren't they simpler to maintain versus these massive hydraulic systems or rods and levers for mechanical transfer of movement? If battery technology takes further strides, we might even get rid of the bulky fuel systems. Or is jet engines unthinkable driven by electricity only?
@troyjollimore4100
@troyjollimore4100 3 жыл бұрын
About the same as what can go wrong in a typical automobile. 'Fly by wire' isn't the same as what you probably think it is. Rather than 'pulling back on the stick' directly powering a hydraulic pump, it signals a computer that decides how much the pump should run, and what other control surfaces or systems also need to be activated, and by how much. For instance, there is so much air flowing over the surface of the rudder at speed, you would need quite the cable and rod setup to move it... Battery propeller planes are being evaluated now. The main downside is that batteries don't lose any weight as you progress through a trip, where a conventionally-powered aircraft gets lighter as fuel is burned. Apparently, there have been reports of battery 'jet engines' being tested, but that's just conjecture at this point. Hydrogen fuel cells would be one thing to look at to power these electric motors.
