The Doctrine of Eternal Damnation in Hell is a myth. Gary Amirault from Tentmaker Ministries reveals many who write books and do videos on Hell don't believe in an everlasting hell themselves.

It's simpler than that. People die because they aren't innately immortal. Nobody, in and of themselves, has the ability to live forever. Some people, however, are chosen by God to be made immortal and given the gift of eternal life. These are not the "bad people". Only if you're the kind of person who should live forever, will God allow you to do so. So by definition, no one can live forever in eternal punishment. The punishment for sin is to *NOT LIVE FOREVER* .

Thank you SO much for making theses videos! You have no idea how much I appreciate them. This has been the most challenging year in my faith that I've ever experienced trying to sift through all the confusion and different doctrines out there about this topic. I had originally believed in conditional immortality before coming across Universal Reconciliation. I just had no idea that this was even a valid Biblical option… I mean, I go to Liberty University and have made KZbin videos myself. I know that none of my Professors would admit to any of this… I too always used to think that this was pure heresy. Gosh, how I was blinded. I was on my knees begging God for the truth all last semester. I've never cried so much in my entire life.. so many restless nights pondering all the possibilities. I kept questioning and questioning why why WHY about so many different issues. I started talking to my professors towards the end of last semester.. but none of them had the answers to any of my questions. Everyone just says, "his ways are not our ways".. etc. etc. And, though Conditional Immortality was at least merciful.. I just couldn't get over the fact that if it were actually true, why would God allow the church to be so deceived for so long, considering that the doctrine of eternal torture turns SO many people away. I felt like I was fighting a losing battle and that Satan obviously wins. Now I have confidence after searching the Greek and Hebrew text and listening to your content and reading several books and articles, that Jesus really IS the Savior of the whole world and God IS in control. Wow, there is no better feeling in life and I want to share it with everyone. The truth really WILL set you free. So thanks again for taking the time to do these. You ARE making a difference. I know that the Lord has given me influence in my generation, both on KZbin and Twitter (@hannahmyers10). I plan to use that wisely and for his glory and one day make videos about this topic for myself. (After I do a LOT more research and feel comfortable defending it). One objection I have heard against ultimate reconciliation is that it diminishes God and the effect of the work on the cross of Christ. Nothing could be further from the truth. The fact that the Sovereign God of all grace has the will and the power to ultimately redeem and save even the worst reprobate is a testimony of His omnipotent love. The concept of universal reconciliation only MAGNIFIES God's glory and greatness to all humankind, certainly in my own eyes. This is indeed the Gospel, the Evangel, the Good News, to ALL, not just for some.

It was said that my dad, Gavin Matthews, first showed signs of mental illness after hearing a sermon on hell. Gavin died in 1976 when he stepped in front of a car. I come from a tradition of devote evangelical Christians who I’m sure would reject this teaching - but I could never see the logic of hell. tentmaker777 I am convinced God loves good purpose in everything He does, so what good purpose would be behind "hell"? None, that's a much lower measure than anything found on earth! "I did not command them nor it came to my mind" - this is how God feels after seeing children being thrown in fire, so if He has an issue with people doing this, why isn't it an issue doing it Himself to the vast majority of mankind? I don't believe in double standards, I think there is a huge purpose planned for all! My research helped me to see what the "second Adam" means and beyond that!

People that use God's name to get away with doing evil. Some may use His name to drive out demons and perform miracles but some may see it as a leeway, which it isn't. A church could preach the word all day and night but if they turn the cheek to corruption or/and demand taxes then He doesn't know them. On the day of the Lord they will be thrown into the "Refiner's Crucible" aka Lake of Fire to refine and filter the lead of wickedness from the gold that is their soul. Hope that makes sense.

If God is all knowing, why does he allow the birth the people that are evil and that will go to Hell? What is the point in being alive, as a soul, if you will go to Hell? The same reason most of us are not willing to stand up for truth; it costs us too much. Fear of rejection, loss of friends, family, income, honor. etc. You'd be surprised how many church leaders KNOW that hell is myth but keep their mouths shut.

You know what is actually funny: the Bible teaches that the saints will judge the world and will judge the angels. This tells me we will be part of the judgement day jury with Christ as the judge. "Eternal" is not found in the original Hebrew and Greek scriptures. An example of where the King James Version got this all wrong is in Jonah 2:2 and 2:6. Look it up...

This truth, for now, is mainly for the called out chosen elect, (Matt 13:11). Eventually all will know this truth but for now, there can only be a chosen few who hold this seal. The fact that through and by Christ Jesus all mankind will be saved, is not diminished regardless of the Jimmy Savile's, Pol Pot's, Hitler's, Churchill's, etc, etc. All those will change their ways in the lake of fire and they will also be saved. Every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess Jesus Christ as their personal Lord via the holy ghost in them. I believe in Jesus Christ as my Saviour, my Lord and Creator. I recognize that I am entirely dependent on Him for everything, and He has never failed to provide for me and bring about the greater good in my life, despite my many failures. Jesus spoke of a valley outside of Jerusalem called Gehenna. It was not nor ever will be a place of everlasting punishment. Translators put the word Hell into Jesus' mouth. Gary, the problem with the god you believe in is he's not the god of the bible, in its entirety. You can find your god there - the god of love - but the bible doesn't paint this image, that you paint, consistently. Many times in the bible god is anything but how you describe him. You have to ignore many passages of scripture, especially in the OT, where god is quite a horrible being, to claim that he's "only" the way you describe him. If the god you believed in was clearly shown through scripture, in its entirety, then I'd fully believe in him, like you do, but because the bible paints an entirely different god, than the one you paint, I have my doubts. I hope your god is the true god. I too reject the doctrine of hell & "hope" that Christian Universalism is true (cause that would really be good news), but you'd have to be blind to ignore all the warnings in scripture spoken clearly to unbelievers & the fate that awaits them. You basically close your eyes to this reality & contend that god only loves everybody, but that is clearly not consistently taught throughout scripture. If it were the insane Calvinist god would be nowhere to be found. Any honest reading of scripture shows that god is not "only" what you say he is, but I would also add he's not what mainstream christianity says either. If the god that Jesus talked about is the same god of the OT then, in my opinion, the god of the bible is a schizophrenic whacko. He commanded the stoning of women for not being virgins on their wedding night. That's not a god of love. He commanded that Israelites who bowed down to other gods be hanged in the sun to appease his anger. That is not a god who loves people. He killed Aaron's sons for dancing in strange fire & then claimed the reason he did it was because he's holy. In Ezekiel 9 & many other passages of scripture the god of the bible is anything but a god of love, mercy, patience, kindness, etc. He commanded the murder of babies, running swords through pregnant womens bellies. If these passages of scripture were in any other holy book, all Christians would condemn those passages & use them as proof that said holy book is not the word of god. The god that you believe in can be found in scripture. I don't deny that, but just like the silly Christians who tell me God loves me but if I don't repent I'll end up in his hell that he's trying to save me from (how they don't see how insane that statement is I have no clue) so too the god you believe in also makes no sense, if you claim that he's the god of the bible, cause he isn't. The god of the bible is insane. I know you "came to see those passages in a new light". All that means to me is you came to ignore what they actually say & learned a way to interpret them to make god seem more like what you believe him to be & want him to be, but all you're really doing is ignoring how god is clearly described in many parts of scripture, as a barbaric tyrant who has no problem killing people, or even wiping out entire communities. Most - if not all - of the issues you identify that seem abhorrent to us in the Bible have two base assumptions that you are not questioning: a) That God could not possibly have a justifiable reason to allow or even command such evil, and that b) our current mortal existence is really all there ever will be. It takes the "Disney" view of God; that all he ever wants for humans on this earth, in this life, is bliss, happiness, hugs and so on. I agree, this clearly isn't the God found in the Bible. But in that same Bible we are also told that God is perfectly just and will repay, "revenge" but also recompense anyone who has been wronged. It seems to us totally unfair that one child should be brought up wanted, loved, and perhaps even taken to Sunday school and "getting saved", whilst another is brutalised, abused and ends up perhaps becoming a child soldier who knows nothing but fear and violence. But if God exists, He will see to it that the first child gives an account for what they did in their lives having received so much, and the second child will receive such joy in the age to come. God is perfect and how He ultimately deals with every single human life will be perfect; you will see what combination of justice and reward is given to your neighbour and think "that cannot be improved upon!" Finally, as Gary says, all will come to a full knowledge of the truth, even if this involves trials and hardship. But each person will have a different mixture of imperfections that requires refining.

He certainly should be perfect & therefore should deal with every single human life in a perfect way. I'd like to think this is true of God, but to be honest none of us can know for certain exactly who/what God is, or for that matter even if He actually exists. However, this view of God that you hold is not consistent in scripture. I'll just give you one example, though there are many. The God of the Old Testament "commanded" that if a woman was found to not be a virgin on her wedding night that she should be stoned to death. If God actually commanded that then God is a sick disgusting pathetic being & we're all screwed. He's nothing like what you just described, if indeed He commanded that. Thus I conclude that this passage of scripture was not the word of God but the word of primitive man who "said" this is what God commands, when God commanded no such thing.

Lightmane321 Great example. Let's look at it: First of all, many (if not most) of God's practical laws in the OT are in fact restorative. If someone steals something, they must repay it several times over. If you wrong your neighbour, you are indebted to him until you pay off this debt and so on. This tells us of the nature of God - that the punishment should fit the crime, and should be about restoring the different peoples to each other, not needless violence. Capital punishment tends to be reserved for the times when a) the offence is against God, or b) any reasonable restitution cannot be made. As in this case - if you marry someone and she has cheated on you (this is how it would be seen in that setting), nothing can really make up for that. So, the case is sort of adjourned to a higher court - i.e. God's judgement, after death. Secondly, the method of punishment: stoning. To stone someone, everyone involved has to be willing to throw stones - everyone has to feel sufficiently motivated NOT to show mercy. There is nothing in the law to say that mercy cannot be shown, indeed, there is good evidence to suggest that capital punishment was a fairly rare occurrence. Just like Paul advises Christians - try to settle out of court! But if people insist on bringing the harshest sentence, everyone is going to have blood on their hands. Imagine how many people say that murderers should be hung/given the electric chair/lethal injection? Now imagine how many would still say it if they personally had to flip the switch? This ties in perfectly with what Jesus says in Matthew: you will be judged with the measure that you use to judge others. The law is not perfect, it cannot save anyone. It was given to a particular people at a particular time with a bigger purpose - "the law is spiritual" - everything within the law hints at deeper spiritual truths beyond the blood and gristle that was the practical reality for the Hebrew people. To read the Old Testament anachronistically - to apply our morals to it, and say "that was horrible, therefore God is horrible or doesn't exist" - is to miss what God is trying to tell us through it. You're partially correct - it was written to a primitive tribe who's experience of life was more violent and misogynistic than ours. But in Hebrews, we're told that they never received the promises of God, but those things were written for OUR understanding and learning. Not so that we just copy the instructions given to them, but so we understand the overarching story of what God is doing in His creation, and the amazing future He has for mankind.

Jesus didn’t preach hell. He mentioned gehenna which was the town dump! Anoion doesn’t mean forever or eternity. It means age abiding. For an age. Hell is a temporary refining fire

Jesus Christ himself originated the teachings about the eternal destiny of man during his ministry on Earth. He was the "rabbi" who first shed light on the questions about the fate of the eternal human soul - questions that had always existed (and still exist) among the Jews of Israel. Prior to his words in the gospels, there were no set doctrines in Israel about eternal punishment. And the Catholic Church merely blended lots of things together and produced.... error. But The Book of Revelation - which John purports to be a divine prophecy from Jesus himself in heaven - sheds even more light on the NT writings before it. We either believe this revelation or we don't. But it is very difficult to deny the existence of the Lake of Fire and of eternal torment for at least SOME... even if there is legitimate room for debate about the fate of all those whose names are not written in the Book of Life at the Great White Throne Judgement. It could be eternal punishment or annihalation. But it clearly isn't eternal life for those whose names are not in the Book of Life. Making appeals against the erroneous theology of the Catholic Church and other medieval traditions, and to the error of Kenneth Hagin does NOT prove your case. And neither do appeals to emotional presuppositions. And notwithstanding the various confusing legends about She'ol, Gehenna, Tartarus, the Abyss, etc... etc... doesn't negate scripture either. The bathwater is indeed very tainted. But let's not throw out the baby. Or fail to strain out what is still good water.

Jesus is Lord of ALL as scripture says. He said, if I be lifted up, I will draw ALL men unto Myself. He is the Way to the heart of our Father, He is the Truth and the Life. He is the Living Word of God, we may learn this in John chapter 1. He will never be corrupted by the doctrines of man. May we learn to seek Him above all else.
