I never comment but this video deserves it. The ‘Running Channel’ podcast mentioned you did amazingly but missed your goal. I expected you to be a bit down straight after as it’s a hugely emotional time but your strength to see the positives is inspiring. (And it is all positive!) You come across as so down to earth but look yourself in the mirror and be proud- you are elite. The best of the best!

Well done, Phily! A PB is a PB and you fought really hard for this one. I know from experience (28 marathons) that some races are tougher than others, the pain comes earlier than expected. It would be so easy to give up then but you didn't! I'm glad to hear that you could be proud of yourself even during the race while the A goal was slipping away. Also kudos to Daniel for the stellar videography and support. You two rock!

You and Daniel are really a dream team : between the production quality of the filming and editing (this is really such a great video to watch), the amazing, inspiring running and the insightful debrief... this is really unique ! 🤩 Congratulations on the race : this seemed so hard but rallying as you did is really no mean feat. You have so much opportunities during a marathon to let yourself be convinced to stop : so impressive that you didn't ! I'm sure the next one will be a great success and it will be thanks to the experience you gained there. But can we talk about the pacer who didn't pace ? What's that about ? 😮

As many commentators have said, GREAT VIDEO! The quick cuts right before the start, brilliant. Also, loved that we could hear Kofuzi yelling “go Phily!” For those of us who have watched the journey, it was perfect! I’m sure many of us were worried about Phily’s state after the race because of the goals vs result and I can personally say I’m happy for her that she is viewing it as positively as she is. “We either hit goal or we learn” is my view with my athletes. Thank you for the inspiring content.

maybe the best video from you folks yet. The race with the music blasting, the effects... really top notch. But the cherry on top is the attitude from Phily at the end. I have been following along with your Houston Marathon preparation block for the last several months (originally found you via your Running Channel appearance last year.) I was so psyched to see how you'd do in Houston, and when I looked up the results, I was thinking of you and wondering how you were feeling. I got emotional several times throughout this video. I'm currently on a small hiatus from running rehabbing an injury and have had to think a lot about setbacks and disappointments and things not going to plan in this sport. To be honest, I imagined you had a really sad reaction to your race results but was so impressed with your positive attitude and the way you took it. It's really inspiring to me and means a lot for someone who is an elite to have such a grace and pick themselves up again and really be proud of the work they did - this stuff is about so much more than numbers. I can't wait to see what you do next, and so happy you have an amazing supportive community around you that keeps you lifted up. Big respect and appreciation for your journey.

I’m proud of you! There are many running channels on you tube but you are one of my absolute favorites because of your attitude and honesty. With others it is purely about the training, you are the whole package and you lead with your personality. That’s what has drawn me in and keeps me motivated in my own training. Love the grind! The Marathon is a beast but you will tame it yet, I have faith in you. Daniel, this video is fantastic and sets the perfect mood for the race. It was over before I knew it as it had drawn me in completely. It deserves an award of some kind. Keep it coming.

This video is incredible for so many reasons - Phily's personality, hard work and determination and results, the video editing, showing all the work that's BEFORE the marathon to give it context, and the (honest, partially unhappy but still proud) reflection afterwards. Really great video, thank you for making it and congratulations on the gargantuan effort and PB!

Have subscribed to your channel having watched several of your vids. For someone who has managed to drop from 20st to 11.5st over 18 months, train hard and now managing to do a half marathon in around 1hr 20 mins, you are an inspiration to those out there aspiring to better themselves and keep going no matter what the daily struggle may be personally. Well done, keep it up, I'm not particularly young myself but at 45 if I can complete the Great North run on 8th Sept at or around 1hr 20 then I will consider this an amazing achievement for someone who 18 months ago found it hard to walk a mile without getting out of breath 😊

It's awesome how us, common folk can relate with elites on a human level. It's not that different for us. It still takes months of training and prep to get to the race day and there are no "do-overs" on a marathon. If you want to change something "for next time", that's a long time down the line. For me, effectively, it means "next year". The added pressure of this being an Olympic year must be hard to cope with for Phily. However, at the end of the day, what devastates us both, commoners and elites alike, is when you reach the finish line and you immediately think "I should've done this or that differently and I screwed this up, not reflecting what I know from my training I'm actually capable of". If you know you gave it your all, you walk away from the finish line proud and tall, regardless of finishing time. @Phily. Love the grind! Chin up! You inspire us all to keep it up, have fun, be healthy! Good luck with the Olympics (luck has nothing to do with it, luck = opportunity x preparation).
@wordmunger10 ай бұрын
That's the really tough thing about marathons. It can be just kind of a slightly off day for unknown reasons, and that's the difference between an A goal and a C goal. I'm in awe of how you dealt with being a bit off, and still managed to get a PR. Can't wait to see what you do next!

Well done, Phily! Your resilience is massively admirable. To have the mental fortitude and determination to complete the race, even though it wasn't shaping up the way you wanted to, and then to get a PB doing so is incredible. well done Phily. Massive achievement to shave off a PB on a tough race day. You can prep as much as you want but every race day will always come down to a bit of how you feel and you only know that precisely when you are a bit into the race. You stayed strong and it showed. I had goosebumps the whole way through and on every training run leading up. Glad you got a rest day the day before. On the day you seemed a bit tired to start (let alone a 4am wake time). Most of all, I love that you run every day like the runner Daniel sees you are. Absolute elite mate. The time is in the pudding eh. It'll come, one race or another.
