Dave, I hope you will read this comment. Listening to the show has helped me to get on a budget and start to get out of debt, after a difficult divorce. I have paid off 20 thousand in two years and plan to be debt free by the end of 2024 (except for the house). The emergency fund was a life saver. Now I am addicted to getting out of debt, can't do it fast enough. Hope you and yours are well. Thanks again Ronan

Just want to say thank you Ramsey. I may have debt (husband and are working on it) but none of it is student loans. I make 30k part time and my husband makes 120k and neither one of us have degrees. I became and LVN and paid $4k cash at an adult school rather than 30k at a trade school. My husband is an electrician and became a journeyman through the Union. All because we knew it would be smart to stay out of debt.

You are correct that the public service loan forgiveness program was a mess. I went back to school and finished in 2011 with $90,000 in debt. My desire was to serve low income families. I worked for nonprofits and gov agencies for more than 10 years under the income based repayment plan and many years prior to accruing loan debt. This year I received notice that my student loans were forgiven. It was in faith I went back to school and I thank God for the loan forgiveness.

I was not automatically enrolled in the "Save" program, but I received 20,000 emails asking me to sign up, so I think those people probably did sign up. The sad part is I heard a naive girl talking about how the "save" program does away with interest on the loans🤦‍♀️ I had to tell her it doesn't and that if she didn't want to pay interest, then she should have taken advantage of the 0% interest during the pause. I was able to get mine down from 30k to 10k during the pause. I took full advantage of that 0% interest.

Wifey and I are 29, we purchased our house together at 19 (we were committed to acting like we were married, but whats the point in wasting the $ when that $ could get us into a house..) were still not married, though I will propose next year. We have 300k mortgage left on the house (valued Yesterday at $552, and neighbours sold last week in 3 days for 2k above asking price. So we are sitting on about 250k equity there (and no tax on selling the family home). We just sold our property that we purchased at the start of COVID, we got it at a bargain because everyone thought the world was ending.. we picked up 75 acres for 70k, 2 hrs from the nearest city. We got 190k (no tax, because it was made the primary residence during COVID) for it last week, and we have no idea how to reinvest it (I know an opportunity when I see it). Its sitting in the bank earning 5% interest at present.. do I just leave it there, and wait for the next opportunity? Or do I put it into shares? I just do not know! Mo money, Mo problems 😂. I much prefer to make money on capital gains, rather than income.. our household income is like 58k.. I pay 0-15% on capital gains, up to any amount. And I pay 30% on income tax, and I have to work for it.. Not against hard work, but I am for working smarter, not physically harder. I grew up on a farm working my ass off from 12-18 for my dad, with barely any pay (I'm more than happy with that). Then I worked hard from 18-25, then I got put into management at 25 and no longer have to be "on the tools"..

Here's a thought. If a person can show a student loan, loan statement - and it shows that , due to interest, they have already paid back the amount they owe, making the loan balance all interest...the excess interest can be forgiven..making the loan paid in full. Id be okay with that. There's a very high percentage of people who are already in this above status. I don't think the government should have a student loan program to supposedly help students when they're just essentially making money off it... Self serving government program😮

We should have house mortagage and car loans forgiveness-there is no diff., as Dave says you signed up to go to college saying you would pay the debt when you were done-it was a loan like any other-and at the end you pay. The org. plan I am sure was to help those that otherwise could not go to college-but it ended up being a big expensive bus., unfortunately. Painful, but no debt is the best freedom ever.
@michaelcorcoran8768
@michaelcorcoran8768 8 ай бұрын
One difference is both of those kinds of debt are dischargeable in bankruptcy, and student loans are not. The other is that the United States is basically an outlier in the OECD ...forcing people to go into debt to go to college. Every other industrialized nation treats it differently. So it's kind of cartoonishly oversimplified suggest taking a student loan is the same as credit card debt.

You talk about administrations misleading people Dave, but them you didn’t ask why so few people got loan forgiveness from pslf. It’s not because of a slow faulty program, it’s because people applied without meeting all the criteria. It’s an admittedly Byzantine list but it’s never not been given to people who actually qualify. They also defer payments and interest while your application is being reviewed. It’s ok to have your opinions and even an agenda on your show, but it’s disingenuous to mislead that bad and make it seem like some crackpot welfare scheme

“You should keep the policy I think it’s perfect for you” that was a very snarky way to end the phone call. As a professional having part of your business being people ring you for advice, explanations ect.. the occasional agree to disagree phone call will come along here and there unfortunately regardless whether Dave Ramsey disagreed with the gentleman or not it was very clear from early on in the call that he was losing his patience and is not a fan of being challenged on a subject he believes he’s correct in. Regardless whether he was correct or not it’s the principle of the matter that as the professional it should have been handled a little differently and and the snarky comment at the end was uncalled for. When it comes to someone trying to prepare for their child’s future financially it’s a emotional subject if there’s even a chance u made a mistake it can completely devastate u. I think Mr Ramsey should have quickly pointed out the reason he disagreed then moved on to advising the gentleman on some other options that he feels would be more beneficial for his sons future so both can be running at the same time if he wants to keep the policy that way it wouldn’t have ended up being a far more positive ending to the call.

He did. Listen back again. The caller obviously set in his ways and Dave is set in his with facts and figures to back it up. Dave didn’t call him and ask him for advice it was the other way around. If Dave called him and asked him why he should invest in that way - the caller could explain why he does it that way. But that wasn’t the scenario. The caller thinks he is right- so therefore good luck to him. Dave is a quarter of billionaire. And we have no idea how wealthy the caller is. So pretend it was Dave calling into the caller seeking advice and how the caller would have handled it if Dave was set in his way and how the caller would have responded as the advisor being set in his way. Dave has no dog in the fight for individual money management. If it works for the caller, that’s fine but not something that Dave has experienced. Nor is it a platform for advertisements for non-tried and tested products byDave that could hurt people

I just watched the show concerning student debts...⁉️😕 I can't believe that Ramsey sided with the government on this!?! Comparing it to "Looking at and Buying a High End Sports Car⁉️😕 I had to work 3 jobs, suffer with physical pneumonia so many times because I was unable to work & go to school at the same time! My father had to pass away, & my inheritance was what got me to partially finish school! BUT HOW CAN YOU COMPLETELY OVERLOOK THAT PEOPLE WHO COME TO THE USA FROM OTHER COUNTRIES & GET A FREE EDUCATUON⁉️ Biden is a Liar & Trump gave us Americans Biblical hope to the rip off artists of the Higher Education Sickening GREED Vacuum of BS!

Ramsey loses me with his creepy politics- which is adding to the demise of democratic America. You're on your way to a dictatorship. Love, Canada

Why the hell does Dave Ramsey perpetuate a lie? On this show, he chastised a caller telling him if he put money in the stock market (mutual funds), his money would grow at 11% over decades. Really? Where has he been over the last 3 years when people lost money rather than gain at the ridiculous rate he is peddling? Sane analysts quote average rates like 6%-8% which are . Dave, don't be lazy by quoting a number you heard during exceptionally great stock market years. Temper you enthusiasm given the times we are in and don't lead your sheep over the escarpment to destruction. The stock market surely doesn't grow @ the rate of 11 %.

Stop it! Why did the caller in if not for his advice? Dave didn’t call in for advice of this unknown guy we know nothing about. He had to shut him down. Whoever the caller is can make his own finance show - and if he is closer to a billion than Dave he can help others get there. But he could be a salesman for all we know which is not the format of the show
