@Dylan DC According to JB, vendors needed to put in an order to DJI for the V2 by 1/8/21. The possible reason for that date is to get them out before Chinese New Year.

Very well rounded instructions / advices! I think doubling the shutter vs FPS is not necessary works best all the time. I'm aware if there were a short book for rules of filmmaking it would be like that, but I would rather say it depends on what you are doing. Since FPV is usually going fast at 1/60 exposure you would get quite some motion blur, all your turns going to be blurred and cant really able to show a clear image to observe the details. 1/120 is I think usually optimal, but would not go below that either... and not really above 320 (or so). Indoors sometimes can be tricky, so many times I leave it auto and put on an ND8 or 16 just to avoid very high values, but I dont mind adjustments if the exposure differencees are too high to get an all-round setting. Minor corrections of the gopro can be evened out with keyframing the gamma or expo through editing - can be a fussy job. Also what you recommended can be nice, to fix shutter, for the brightest area, then give a little freedom for ISO.

most other FPV pros that use the GoPro for commercial work uses FPS x4 shutterspeed, to get a little bit crispier picture instead of the 180 rule, There are still good enough of motionblur with x4 shutterspeed with gopro. Know that Finicky uses the x4.

If you "lock" all the exposure settings, then the camera doesn't have the ability to compensate for lighter or darker areas (eg: direct sunlight, or shadows). You need to let at least one of the settings compensate. Since the aperture is fixed, that means you only have shutter speed or ISO to work with. If you fix shutter speed, you need to let ISO adjust. Or vice versa. Otherwise it will be blown out when looking at the sun or super dark in shadows.
@MactacFPV3 жыл бұрын
ND filter
@twinturbostang3 жыл бұрын
@@MactacFPV ND filter will reduce the amount of light to the camera. But it's not dynamic. So as you move from sunlight to shadow, the required exposure level changes. However, if all settings in the camera are fixed, then you still will either overexpose or underexpose.
@MactacFPV3 жыл бұрын
@@twinturbostang Yes, I'm clear on how ND filters work (I make Camera Butter filters!), my point was that if you want to used a fixed shutter speed and you need to adjust the exposure, you can/should use an ND filter. This would be instead of adjusting the ISO - which you should keep locked at 100 if there is enough light (and there usually is if it's daytime), and if it's locked at 100, you cannot adjust ISO to make the image darker, at least on a GoPro (some cameras have the ability to go to 50, though it's a bit faked). You can adjust ISO to make it more exposed, however that's not the preferred method, as increased ISO will degrade the image (though not much if you keep it below 400 or so).
@ArbeeAerials3 жыл бұрын
I know I'm a little late to the party here, but with iso, if you needed a little bit of extra exposure out of this (like in your example of nd8 being too light and nd16 being too dark), would you then try and lock min and max to a higher value? Or would you keep min at 100 and just adjust max? ALSO, for indoor or low(er) light shooting, what's the absolute highest you'd go on iso for a picture that is still usuable without noticable noise? I'm running a Hero 6 and 7 for reference.. Thanks :)
@BLGDrive Жыл бұрын
Always keep min at 100, adjust max but don't go too high as the image will get grainy

I was looking at a gopro hero 9 with the max lens mod but I love the cinematic look with ND filters... I heard ND filters screw up the gopro's stabilization (plus, I don't know of any ND filters that would fit the max lens). Makes me wonder if the max lens would be a good fit for me in the end. What are the options here to get the cinematic, motion blur appearance? I want to fly on the trails of our property in the Adirondacks, which includes a lot of shady areas. Any feedback is appreciated!

Hey Nurk! Its really helpful seing what settings you are flying professionally... i have tried pretty much the same ones you are using on a hero 9 but i am really having issues in reelsteady with some ugly blurry wash out, that always lasts for a split second... i tried different mounts and drones but the problem remains... i read that reelsteady struggles with lower shutter speeds, i wonder if you can make 1/60 shutter work without issues Sorry for that long comment, understandable if you dont reply, but i wonder if you have any insides on similar experiences Greetings from germany! :))
@treesifpv38484 жыл бұрын
If the whole image frame moves (from wind, propwash, general vibrations) then the whole frame will have motion blur, and there is no way for Reelsteady to correct this. You can use a faster shutter speed that is still a multiple of frame rate, so for 30fps use 1/120 or 60fps use 1/240.

Nothing new there. My actual questions: 1) If there is an iso range: does it adjust while recording (or does it lock at start?) What does it expose to (why is there is no evcomp)? 2) How do you deal with strong changing of lighting conditions? For example flying from sunny day into cave (lit with not as bright light) 3) How do you expose correctly? That in post nothing is blown out (especially on such a small display) Would be nice if you could answer my questions in s future video or comment.
@reddyairfpv4 жыл бұрын
Shutter set to auto if light change.ISO range can up,but for good quality don't set max iso upper 200. If light change range is big don't use ND filters (if lowlight). Hypersmooth can to corrupt picture with long shutter.
@pirchoo3 жыл бұрын
I think its no shame using full auto in that case, maybe pop on an ND8 or 16. But it really depends on the situation how to set it. I personaly dont like too low shutters (like 30fps and 1/60), so my minimum is 120, and maximum is 400. You will still get motion blur, so your movements will remain fluid - but it depends if you wanna cruise or flipping around. First go to the brightest area and find minimum settings, lowest ISO at eg 120 with ND, then check darkest. I would first give them some ISO range to play, so it maintains the look of motionblur. BTW you can apply or enhance motion blur in post, and most cases works fine. The sun and area around will always burn out and even in movies sometimes things are burnt. Just adjust it as bright as you still have information in the shadows on the same composition. Sunsets are most tricky, they are better a bit underexposed (darker) than over, just Fix WhiteBalance 2500-3000K.

Thanks for sharing your GP settings. Quick question on the linear mode to eliminate distortion when filming people which you mentioned. Do you do this with with RSgo (4:3 + linear + RSgo) I do the recommended settings which you defined early on your video which is 4:3 + wide + RSgo but I do notice I get some distortion on the sides with isn’t really desirable with people. Thanks again.

You can getaway with shutter that you can multiply or divide by your FPS . . but Gopro looks like shit to begin with, so I only force iso100 to sustain at least some of the picturequality and let the camera decide the rest. You have to go up to GP8 before they got their color science right and the GP9 looks like a cellphone sensor, once again. I prefer using the GP5 simply because it doesn't multisample the frames to build one frame . . multisampling causes the image processing to have less light to play with and the parsing of the frames causes ghosting at leafs etc. It just feels like the GP1 Gopros are always crosseyed because of that. But when you climb up the tree ass first , that's what happens. I still giggle when I think of even Xiaomi not making an offer to buy them after checking their books.
