I think a key thing to keep in mind is that even for a single given fetish there can be multiple causes. From my mental glossary of the meaning of fetish terms (I've spent way more time reading what different tags mean than is probably healthy) I can say that there's a pretty wide range of stuff even within the broader "vore" category. On the one end you have things like endosomatophilia (the paraphilia of the idea of being completely but generally harmlessly enveloped within another person for a time) and unbirthing (which may have age regression aspects) while at the other you have some pretty graphic consumption and digestion stuff. What thing(s) a given person is getting out of a particular kink (especially within a broader kink category) can vary, so trying to simplify down to "people who are into X are motivated by Y" statements tends to run into problems.

As someone who kind of has this fetish (but it's connected to micro/macro giantess stuff), it's also just a fantasy thing. The micro/macro giantess stuff as a whole is also just a fantasy and not something I'd want to act out in any way IRL. For me to even begin considering something like micro/macro stuff is if the technology behind shrinking or whatever is safe and easily reversible and the partner is not just gonna screw me over or whatever. I'm not proud of this, but I have seen some good damn art of everything and have gotten off to some weird shit. Granted I was a teen and everything turned me on. But I did have standards though.
