I think it's necessary to keep digging for the root cause of the fault. Bolts broke, okay. Why did they break? Were they defective, fatigued, over torqued, wrong bolts\grade, vibration, and if so from what? Still amazed and relieved that no one was seriously injured by all the shrapnel.
@AIM54A7 ай бұрын
It takes about 160ms for sound to be processed by the brains and 200ms for visual data. You processed the failure AND moved the throttle in 200ms (0.2s). Nobody is going to react faster then that. You might put a Strain gage on the Load that can detect torque being applied.. If the Load drops out you immediately kill the injectors. That would probably only take 50ms to respond to a failure like this..
@b.c40667 ай бұрын
but by the time the load dropped the damage was already done right? even if you can kill the fuel and spark that fast the time it takes to return to zero rpm it is going to break stuff. yes??

Amazing to see all that old sheetmetal with almost no rust. Living on an island in the Pacific we never see that on cars more than a few years old. I wonder if you could add a hinge on the top and have the quarters open up like gullwing doors, so they don't have to come all the way off for tire and rearend service.

Re: plywood/wall reinforcement. If you think about layers, you can get the most bang resistance for your buck. If money's not an issue, put particle board or mdf on the existing wall & ~0.090" sheet metal over it. Otherwise, you could put a layer of cheap oriented strand board, a layer of 0.030" metal, topped w/ 1/2" plywood. The plywood will have some give, to slow down particles, the steel will give it some strength & the OSB behind the steel will disburse the force of the impact over a larger area. By doing the layers, it also doesn't matter what the 1st two layers looks like. It could be nasty old body metal off a truck. I built a shop out of walk in cooler panels in the '80's. Thick azz enameled sheet metal on both sides, full 2× 4 framing w/ a bunch of insulation crammed in. They are 4 × 8 ft & cam lock together. Once we got the foundation ready, we had all of the walls stood up for a 40 x 60' shop in one day. If you could find some, you could line the inner walls with them, throw on some paint & dang near have a ricochet room! LOL Otherwise

Last video I wanted to mention Steve... might be time to "re-inforce" the dyno room. In the Marines my Dyno observatory had twin panes of actual bullet resistant glass. Was able to deflect a breaker bar that was still on the dampner on a start-up once..... hit the window so hard the breaker bar was bend by around 20 degrees. Also might want to make the primary walls out of cinderblock minimum. I know some "boom rooms" fill the cinderblock with sand. Love your work Steve, stay safe big dawg.

Steve, I am concerned about the ability of the "spot" welds holding the Zeus fastener brackets to the fender(s) to not fail during 250 MPH runs. I'd feel better if you used through bolts in the fenders to hold the brackets in place. Those fenders are like sails and any slight pressure differences from inside to outside the fender at speed are likely to blow the fenders off. Just sayin' . . .
