Thank you for such a good lesson on this piece. Your description made me laugh, the first half IS fairly straight forward but then there's the second half which humbles a lot of us! Looking forward to playing your arrangement.

Hi, I am currently doing grade 6 guitar and this is one of my pieces. This video helped a lot! Thank you 🙏🏼

I start relearning classical guitar properly using your videos. I spent lots of time (years) learning progressive studies from Carulli and Mertz. Now the beginning of this piece seems effortless and the second part is feasible. Same for Allemande BWV 996. It still needs effort, and there are still mistakes, but it happens to be beautiful and fun to play 😊 Thank you for giving confidence to self-learners.

This piece is the reason I began playing classical guitar many years ago. I've since completely forgotten the second half and want to learn it again, but can't find the pdf I had. Working with your version, I immediately notice the fingerings are different and much more difficult. I don't know much of anything about grades, but if this is grade 6 difficulty, I'd say that so much of that is due only to the fingerings. I certainly can appreciate that you're keeping everything tied together and consistent - it's very smooth and musical - but I'm not as advanced as you and this moderately simple piece is feeling exceptionally difficult now. Gotta find my old version before my confidence is permanently damaged! 😄

isn't walking bass a term used in jazz music prevalently? as he said in the video, its the technique of counterpoint, which is common in the baroque period
@gregsimmons33233 жыл бұрын
It is. But in classical that's called contrapuntal or counterpoint.

I agree. Easier to appreciate the different voices that way. Unfortunately it's often labelled as allegro which is quite fast for this piece.

Thank you for this lesson =) what does it mean BII6 in the sheet? thank you
@Thisisclassicalguitar Жыл бұрын
Barre chords: B = Barre, II = 2nd fret, 6 = over six strings. So BIV3 would be barre the 4th fret, over 3 strings.

What are the 'BII6' and 'BVII6' in the pdf and what do they mean? Also, by counterpoint, do you mean both voices are equal or close to equal in emphasis?
@ThisisclassicalguitarАй бұрын
BII6 = Barre the 2nd fret over all 6 strings. BVII6 = Barre the 7th fret over all 6 strings. Counterpoint is two or more independent musical lines (voices). Here you could play the upper line on it's own and the lower line on it's own. Each is intact despite working together so well.

Bradford, thanks a lot for your great lesson. A quick general question. This piece has many two-notes chords. For example, it starts with several of these two-notes chords. In your video it looks like you play the very beginning like (P-m P-i P-m) (P-m i P-m) fingers I am wondering if two-notes chords should not strictly follow finger alternation rules? Because if they should, they would be played as (P-m P-i P-m) (P-i m P-i). Can you please comment on that? Or maybe finger alternation is only applicable to the single notes?
@Thisisclassicalguitar2 жыл бұрын
In general they should alternate unless the thumb or another finger is in between. If I repeat a finger it is probably just a bad habit on my part. Although I think that repeated 'm' in this case occurs on a longer rhythm which makes it somewhat relaxed and not really a big deal.
@BonfaLuiz2 жыл бұрын
@@Thisisclassicalguitar : Thanks a lot for your answer! Yes, imho, repetitions here are pretty relevant. The whole rhythm here is in kind of in "triplets" "one-two-three, one-two-three, ...". And the right-hand finger pattern that I see in your play is exactly this and it is pretty good for playing and memorization. ("m-i-m, m-i-m, ....). So repetition of "m" at the end of one "triplet" and the beginning of the other is not really a big deal. But instead we have a consistent RH-fingering across the whole piece.

in the video time 0.44 the note C is to be played with the fourth finger on third string but you play it with first finger that too on the first fret of second string. Please clarify which is correct? In terms of sheet music it is measure no 21 starting.
@Thisisclassicalguitar5 жыл бұрын
Are you using my edition of the sheet music? There is no C in my measure 21, did you mean the C in measure 22? In my edition the C in measure 22 is played on the 2nd string as I do it in the video. So everything should be correct.

I have a question about placing the right pinky. Should it rest on the guitar or should it be in the air in terms of playing classical guitar?
@Thisisclassicalguitar5 жыл бұрын
In Classical guitar we do not rest the right hand pinky. It should just relax and float. All the contact is in the forearm. See my right hand technique post: www.thisisclassicalguitar.com/right-hand-technique-for-classical-guitar/

Sir what does CV5 mean? CV I understand is capo on fifth fret but what about numeral 5 with it? And the bass note is C.
@Thisisclassicalguitar5 жыл бұрын
The B or C is for barre or capo. The roman numeral is the fret. The number after is how many strings you barre.
@ramv15645 жыл бұрын
@@Thisisclassicalguitar Thank you for your help. My question is if it says CV 5. And the bass note is C and melody note is G how is it possible? If we barre 5th fret and 5 strings the bass note on fifth string will be D and treble note will be A. Also is there any site where these terns are explained like C is for capo, roman V fir fret etc?
