Well besides the beautiful countryside and panoramic views, I am really impressed in the Class-1+ trackage & roadbed and how smooth of a ride this is. No dips, no shaking or shimmy or rocking motions. And then take the transition from the road grade onto and off of a bridge, just as smooth and silent as could be, in fact the entire ride is super quiet due to the high-quality MOW crews. If anyone were to ask me for the perfect example of high-quality trackage in the world, 👉 New Zealand 💯

Hello Peter, all routes out of Palmerston North are both interesting and scenic especially the route through the Manawatu Gorge. It must be the best New Zealand depot to work out of and the driver certainly gets the best views, I hope you enjoyed the video, although no video can do justice to the wonderful NZ scenery. 🍺 Tim.

There's been a few changes around Otaki since I was last up that way, both for the train and the roads.

When I first caught a train along the Kapiti Coast the electric services finished at Paraparaumu and the track was single on to Palmerston North. The new road through Transmission Gully was being talked about, but work hadn't started. As your rightly pointed our there have been many changes.

This journey was wonderfully relaxing. I was interested in the change of landscape as to how different the North of North Island is to the South of North Island. Also, what time of the year was it filmed, and why don't stations have clocks?! Looking forward to more trips ...
@Timsvideochannel15 ай бұрын
Hello Anna, I'm glad you enjoyed the journey. This was filmed on 28th October 2023. I've just returned from a railway photographic tour of South Africa centred around Bloemfontein during which I contracted food poisoning at the beginning of the trip and returned to the UK with Covid. It's going to take me a week or two to recover, the scenery was beautiful, but there were a few problems with the trains caused by the overhead wires being stolen forcing diesels to substitute for electrics including the one that should have been escorting our steam locomotives, coal, water tanks and passenger carriages. Whilst the carriages were parked in a siding the doors and interiors were stolen. We did eventually get some steam, but no carriages for us to ride in, we followed the train in road coaches, giving me no opportunities to capture forward facing shots from the locomotive. On a brighter note, the Sandstone Estate Railway was awesome. I look forward to sharing my South African adventure over the coming months.

The stations on the suburban network all have clocks. In most cases they are part of the real-time scheduling boards. Some stations have separate dual-faced analog clocks as well. These are often tucked up under the over-hang and not always visible from the tracks.

The video recorded against the sun is not of the best quality, perhaps you could avoid such situations. An unwashed locomotive window is even worse than that!
@Timsvideochannel18 ай бұрын
I don't have a hot line to the almighty, I'm a mere mortal sadly bereft of the ability to move the sun. This train runs this route 2 or 3 times a year, I don't think it is reasonable to inconvenience all of the passengers by retiming the train to miss the setting sun and the camera was mounted on the front hand rail of the locomotive.
