Any Indian mamas here, please don’t listen to you in law aunties telling you that baby isn’t getting enough milk and has soft tummy. Don’t feed them formula just for the sake of it(unless there’s actual need and suggested by the doctor). Your motherhood should be based on your decisions, not out of this pressure. Baby knows how to feed and you’d know when she is content and full and satisfied. You go mama. Trust yourself, you can do it

Omg I was in the same situation as you!!! The Chinese community is like that too. My mother in law (she is a kind person and I know she wants the best for her grand child) told me that I don't have enough milk (it was day 2 and 3 so it was colostrum) and I was like I have enough milk!!! But I didn't know that I would have to breastfeed every 1-2hr. I was unsure about myself and felt really down and even cried. We ended up giving baby one bottle of 30ml formula. Now I am at week 1 and my breast is producing even more milk. I am actually pumping so that my hubby can participate in feeding baby at night :) my mother in law finally saw that my body is producing enough milk for baby.

This is so true- if the baby has wet diapers they have enough milk. Trust the history of women everywhere who have breast fed. Feed frequently to increase milk and drink, drink, drink anything liquid. If your urine isnt straw colored but darker, drink more. Don’t let inlaws and friends unfamiliar with nursing influence you. Relax, drink a lot and love your baby.

Love this! Yes! I’m also planning an unmedicated birth, hoping to utilize the HypnoBirthing method but honestly the closer I get the more I keep hearing women telling me that the method won’t work or that I’m going to experience so much pain, or to be prepared for a hospital birth even if I think I can do it at the birth center. I can’t tell if it’s just people being honest and looking out for me, and maybe that’s really how it is, or if they wish they could’ve done an unmedicated peaceful birth and are trying to knock me down a peg so that doesn’t happen… I hate thinking that way. Then I get met with the same skepticism when I say I want to exclusively breastfeed. So many women saying they couldn’t feed past 6 weeks or they just weren’t producing enough so switched to formula. I feel like the only female encouragement I can find is through videos like these and hunting down success stories in women I don’t even know 😣 of course my husband says he knows I can do it, but sometimes I just want a fellow mother’s story.

@@Melanie-to4uf mine went amazing!! I labored peacefully with meditation and breathing at home from 7am-4pm then went to the birth center (labored for 30mins in the car, that was honestly the hardest part but it still wasn’t painful - I was able to breathe through each contraction). The midwives were all awesome and admitted me to my birthing room at 4:45pm, I got into the tub at 5pm, and my son was born via unmedicated water birth at 6:16pm. I had only had pain in my mid-back but once I was in the tub it all went away. I’d heard people describe it as pressure but thought it couldn’t possibly feel that way, but it did! I didn’t tear either. My son scratched me on the way out so I had to have a stitch on my labia but otherwise no problem. As for breastfeeding, my son wouldn’t latch so I hand expressed colostrum for him for the first few days then when my milk came in 4 days PP I began exclusively pumping. Honestly it’s a great experience because my husband can feed him too and share in the bonding. It’s been almost 3 months and my supply is still going strong, so it’s been successful 😊 You can totally do it! Just breathe and trust your body!

I am close to delivery on baby #2 and I did breastfeed my first for 22 months. With that said, I had SO much anxiety in the first few months of his life, thinking I wasn't producing enough, because he wasn't gaining weight as well as the doctors preferred. I am excited this time to let that anxiety go and really embrace my confidence in that my body knows what it's doing, and really settle into my own intuition as a mama instead of listening to those around me (that maybe weren't the most encouraging). Breastfeeding is incredible and I'm so excited to be beginning this journey again.

My baby would bite down on me so hard I would shake in pain. I ended up with swollen and cracked nipples. This continued into the first few days at home BUT that behaviour quickly disappeared. It can be hard to find courage through the pain and discouragement when initial breastfeeding doesn't go well, but don't give up too soon. It will get better. Sometimes a hungry baby will be too vigorous at the breast, causing pain, but as your milk comes in and they become more assured, this should fade away. Also I ended up pumping for the first 3 weeks of life. Inadvisable, but I wanted to avoid formula and breastfeeding was not working at the time, so that's the choice I made. It was a lot of work, but she got all that antibody & nutrient-rich colostrum. That was rewarding to see in the fridge- liquid gold as they say :). Now we're finally getting away from all the bottles, breastfeeding often, and we are much happier. Not spitting up, no bottles to clean, etc. I see now why they recommend doing this in reverse lol breastfeeding x3 weeks, THEN pumping. In the end, I'm just so glad I didn't give up on breastmilk or breastfeeding. The hard work paid off. So... hang in there, Mommas! It is indeed a beautiful and rewarding experience.

I went into the hospital on December 22nd at midnight and I was already 7cm dilated. I got to 9cm and my body just stalled and went into shock. Baby’s water would not break and he would not drop at all. After every contraction I would almost pass out so my husband had me take the epidural at 9cm. After taking the epidural , it took another 12-14 hours for me to be able to start pushing. My son was born on December 22nd, at 2:15pm, weighing 7lbs and 9oz. The worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life getting from 1-9cm. First time mom and it’s very VERY scary, but I have my husbands full support.

I have a question, I don’t know why I can’t send a personal message to you but I was wondering why my baby seems to need to eat so much if I rely just on breastmilk. For example I usually nurse for about five minutes and then give him a bottle, then I decided I would try just now to nurse his entire feeding and what I noticed is that my baby nurse from the left side at 10:40 PM, where he would nurse and then lose the nipple several times or many times during the feeding and then I would switch sides after 15 minutes to the right side and he would still lose the nipple and find it again and nurse. But with this example he seems to have still been hungry and in nursing from 10:40 PM to 12:20 PM. Why is that? Does this mean that he’s not getting the fatty kind and that’s why he’s constantly hungry?

This is the Spectra amzn.to/2Nd8sxU it's rechargeable and is great if your fiancé is returning to work and doesn't want to be tied down by an outlet. A little more pricey though. And this is the Medela Pump in Style Advanced amzn.to/2X6GdFI This one is cheaper and works great (it's the one I personally use) and you get bottles and milk storage that comes along with it. But I would definitely check in with your care provider if your fiancé is planning on delivering a hospital! They often will provide a hospital grade pump at no charge to you. Keep in mind, the hospital grade ones are usually a bit bigger than the personal pumps! Hope this helps!

I feel like I should try it but am also so turned off with the pressure to do so. I’m educated and understand the benefits but can’t shake these feelings I’ve been having. Anyone else experience this and how did you handle it?

The reality of our bodies is that they are leaky, messy and weird. We are so programmed that this is wrong or unattractive when in fact it is just how it is. Maybe just trying to feel neutral about it in the very least. When it really comes down to it you don't owe anyone anything. If you try body feeding and stop or don't want to it's totally fine. The best thing is for the baby to be fed in whichever way is best for you. If mama is stressed and burnt out that's not good for baby. Anyone who tries to give you crap about your choices needs to be told they are not helpful and to stop. Whatever you choose will be great! You got this!

This is literally the reason our breasts were made. It's the most natural thing in the world first one being giving birth.

I understand that feeling! I'm really gonna try this time but I think I'll end up exclusively pumping after the hospital because I'm so scared of the pressure to feed from the breast. So concerned we'll have issues with lip ties and etc.

Our 6-weeks old cries for more food after breastfeeding 98 times of 100, she was delivered by c-section and it took a couple of days with formula until she started to breastfeed., and she eats until well empty, if she is removed from the breast before she cries, she is steady on +2 standard deviations for weight and length .

Listening to lactation consultants almost killed my baby. If they give you the same trite bs, but you don't think something is right. Take baby to er (since ped can't usually see you without a several week wait). If baby isn't wetting enough, take baby to er Do not let those abusive lactivists tell you that baby is fine if they aren't urinating. When they tell you that you're abusing your dehydrated baby by supplementing after their hospitalization, tell them exactly what to go do with themselves. Breastfeeding is wonderful, but don't let them convince you that it's better for your child to die than for them to receive formula

Do you have a video about formula feeding and incorporating that as a supplement? My baby eats so much that he empties me out and is still hungry.. often eating for well over an hour both sides, usually only taking a break to burp, diaper, or take the occasional nap. He's getting enough, but he is eating so often I'm raw.

Hannah Powell how old is he? It’s normal to cluster feed around growth spurts which can happen around 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 12 weeks and 6 months and maybe a few more times in between. Also he’ll be cluster feeding to help you get more supply. Supplementing with formula might hinder your supply. Don’t doubt your supply if his nappy output is good, he’s gaining weight and he’s generally content 😊 you got this!! Xx

Hi. Currently 30 weeks pregnant. So sorry if this sounds like an air headed question ... but baby will feed between both breast in one feeding? For example, I’d start baby on my left breast and will need to do the right side as well after or is one breast at a time enough? I purchased a hakaa for let down but will I need it if baby will be nursing on both breast in one feeding?

Lamanda Mabry A lot of women feed on both sides. Especially if they feel engorged. It just keeps it even. Not all women do. If you don’t you can put a clothes pin on your bra or bracelet on your wrist to know what side you fed on last. That helps when you are exhausted and not thinking at full capacity. I’m not in any way an expert. I’d use the Hakka on both breast when you change sides because of want to mix the hind milk in with the fore milk. The hind milk has more fat. The suction may not be good enough with the Hakka to do that if that is the case I’d pump the hind milk out to make sure you got it all. However, if you pump for a few minutes after feeding it tells your body to produce more milk so idk if you want that. I’m not near an expert! That is my barely educated two cents.

Pumped before because my baby was underweight and losing weight so doctor had me supplement with formula. She is 8 weeks today and my supply dropped drastically two weeks ago. Trying to get it back 😭😓 had too much before and now I'm having to go back to some formula because I don't have enough for my baby 😭😓

Im worried I won't be able to breastfeed because I have a history of sexual trauma and even with my partner of years can't touch my nipples without it being a trigger for me. I am praying things will be different with my baby girl but this is something that is going to definitely be a challenge for me. It's the reason I never tried breastfeeding with my son but some time has passed now and I want to try.
