"Accidental self-defense" is the most absurd legal argument a defendant can make. "I did it, because I was facing a threat of serious injury or death, but I only accidentally defended myself." Either you did it on purpose with justification, or you did it by accident. You can't accidentally use force with justification.

I think his attorney was claiming that he habitually kept a knife tucked between the seat and console for protection, so that the fact that he intentionally armed himself (malice aforethought) with a knife obtained at sister's would be glossed over. If an argument over his behavior with sister had taken place at her apartment, and it had escalated to a fight, and then a knife was introduced, he might be on better ground, but the facts so far are against him.

lol, bob got her friend and her on drugs, and her family spent a fortune getting her clean. then the i diot comes back and tries to drug her again to get in her pants, while her husband was on a medical trip. her mom asked nima to check on her, and bob kept lying about everything. nima didn't do anything wrong and was not in danger, bob was; for drugging his sister, so who would grab the knife for self defense? nima was sober and bob was wasted, who would be a better fighter? hard to use your head, isn't it?

If the prosecution can prove that the knife used to kill Bob was taken from the apartment before they left to go "talk"... His entire defense is shot to pieces. Needing to use deadly force to protect yourself isn't something you can know ahead of time. He can't even use the excuse that he feared Bob would try to kill him so he decided to grab a knife from the kitchen on the way out the door. If he was so fearful of Bob, he wouldn't have invited him to get into his car with him then go park in a secluded, dark area and get out of his car. 😂

Sheesh… I have so many opinions on this. I literally lived exactly where this happened. Actually one the safest spots in SF. It is secluded though so I can see how this perpetrator set it up that way. Let’s just also say that I’m familiar with many parts of Bob’s life as well. I will say that Bob was definitely not part of a safest community/lifestyle, but let’s not get it confused. What his killer did to him was absolutely not at all Bob’s fault. Not that Dr. Grande is doing this, but I have heard a lot of victim blaming in regards to this case. He didn’t “deserve” what happened to him. If you think that… god help you if you ever did anything just a little bit wild with other consenting adults and then lost your life. Only for your entire life to be reduced down to that. If you haven’t done mental health evaluations on all friends, family, and exes before you sleep with someone…. God help you too. One thing we could learn, is to avoid getting in a car with someone who seems angry with you in the middle of the night “to talk” though. (Honestly though, I’m not sure that would have saved him, but something to note) That lady’s brother was very unstable and controlling (he acted like he owns women). Bob basically “messed around with the wrong women” who were associated with a very sick person. He was trying to force someone into doing what he wanted by intimidation and it didn’t work. I hope people see this for what it is. Money has next to nothing to do with this and…This is not some noble act.

We tend to think their money and power insulate them from that. The video we watched over and over is very compelling. All his money couldn't protect him in the end. He died alone on a downtown city street in the middle of the night the type of death we would assume a person of extreme poverty or a late night shift worker might die from being attacked. The murderer is stupid and jealous of Bob. The fact that Bob was hedonistic is beside the point. As a person you shouldn’t care who your ex dates. If it bothered Nima and felt betrayed by his sister befriending and having sexual relations with Bob, then Nima should distance himself from his sister. Khazar is a fully grown woman and will exercise her own free will. Nima should know himself better and know that his ex, Bob, and his sister don’t care about him. By the time Nima learns this important life lesson about people, which everybody learns at some point, he will be rotting in prison.

There's SO much of this lifestyle in SF and Bay Area, including the tech crowd. People blow off steam from high pressure jobs and keep in under control for the most part. This situation has more to do with Nima being an unhinged jealous asshole than trouble with party culture.

Commenters keep saying Bob Lee was high when he died. Having detectable amounts of mind-altering substances in your body does not necessarily make you high. According to CNN’s report on the medical examiner’s report, the amount of alcohol in Lee was the equivalent of one beer, and the amount of cocaine was “low.” It didn’t characterize the amount of ketamine, but said that substance “could have been given as anesthesia in the hospital,” so we don’t even know that it was in Lee when he was stabbed.

God forbids sexual relationships outside of marriage, forbids drugs and Alkohol use, and forbids frittering away money in nonsens, just to make sure that we as humanbeings, live a decent life. Another great speculation by Dr. Grande on a current topic. Americans are not fans of violence perpetrated against unarmed innocent people. But when the elite very wealthy tech folk get murdered in cold blood and die alone in pain, it really gets to us. It pings a key fear about safety and we think wealth buys safety from this sort of violence. Yet it does happen not often but every year a few stories, usually the person befriended someone who betrayed them with death. When this first happened everyone was speculating he was walking San Fran late at night downtown (why was never explained) when he was stabbed by a homeless guy for no reason. The real reason was a lot darker. The WSJ reported on a licentious party scene Lee was allegedly part of where the rich and connected in Silicon Valley like to indulge in after hours. So much money and power and influence makes people bored and start to push the envelope. The strange relationship between the married love interest and her brother. It's a good analysis. We will never know for sure because Momeni is not going to tell anyone the truth. In Iran murder for insulting or protecting the family from shame is legal. The defense attorney was just fired and Momeni hired one from Miami and these are not public defender defense attorneys. Dr. Grande's wit and humor shine in this one as usual.

He wasn't on that dark a road, frankly. Bob was highly functional and successful regardless of the drug use, was widely loved, and had a great relationship with his family and children, while MANY people in his close and extended community party and do drugs quite liberally. People in high pressure jobs often blow off steam like that and things don't spin out into depths of doom and despair like you might be imagining. (Don't get me wrong, drug use can be excessive and dangerous, but Bob was fine).
