Because they see celebrities naming their babies strange and out there names and think "That's awesome, I'm gonna name my kid something strange and unique." without thinking those celebrities kids are going to grow up around other celebrities kids with strange, out there, unique names, therefore not a lot of bullying over names like there would be in public schools where most kids have normal names like John, Greg, Becky, Susan, etc. where a kid with a unique name is more likely to get bullied. I agree with Mark, there shouldn't be bullying over names, but bullying happens, it always has and it always will happen, all that can be done is take steps to reduce it, and until more parents take a more active roll in teaching their kids there is no chance in reducing it from their end, so one must take precautions, even if they are unfair, to protect their kids from too much bullying.

I’ve had a unique name all my life (though the name itself has changed) and have never been bullied for it, and in fact have been complimented on multiple occasions. There are some pretty but uncommon names, like OP named their other daughters. Then there are just dumbass names. Constellation is one of those, though I will say that IMO it at least sounds pretty. @@thedestroyasystem True, a unique name doesn't always lead to being bullied, but more often than not it does. Story 3: I would like to make something clear here for non-artists: A 12-pack of tiny, professional-grade tubes of gouache costs $40. I wouldn't be surprised if they had close to $100 worth of paints out for this commission because if they're accepting a commission like this, they likely have a lot of experience with these paints, buy larger tubes, have a wider array of colors, etc. OP says they used expensive paper, so I'm gonna guess watercolor blocks. If they were on the smaller side, 6x12 inches(ish), a 20 pack of watercolor boards costs $25. If they're bigger ones, 12x12, that's close to $40. Those children not only damaged around $100-150 worth of art supplies or more, but they also cost them a client, who was probably planning to pay at LEAST $200 to OP for this commission and damaged their walls, which OP will now have to take time to remove those paints themselves. Thankfully, gouache is like watercolors and will probably wash off with a lot more ease than oil or acrylic, but that's still time, money, and energy gone down the drain because the mother was raising spoiled brats and wouldn't take no for an answer. Let me make this clear: since OP lost the commission and these children damaged her walls and expensive art supplies, they not only lost OP $200+ in income, but also potentially created a loss of at least $50 before we take into consideration how much paint these kids used up.

The last comment you read on story 2 is honestly part of what's wrong with that subreddit at times, in my opinion. Sometimes, when you get angry and frustrated, you will say and think awful things in your anger, even to someone you love. A single outburst in a single event is not immediately divorce-worthy, any more than having an argument every once in a while is. I sometimes don't know what some people think relationships are, as if disagreement, argument and even verbal fighting aren't possible in one without being worked through once everyone has calmed down. Obviously, there's a point where it's clear there are more serious issues in a relationship, but we forget that we are only being given glimpses, at most, into these lives, and most of them are going to be of relationships at their lowest points, given the subject matter.

She encouraged me to make contact and even after I did, would call and talk to him and his wife. While engaged to my Mom, he had another woman. He got the other woman pregnant and broke off with Mom, who found out later she was also pregnant. Turns out, one of my Friends was actually my half Sister (I was a toddler and later like 8 before we moved). Mom, him and the Wife all knew and encouraged us without telling us (I wish they had thought and told us, but they thought we were too young). I was a strangely mature thinking kid lol and would have understood. Before I was 10, I was the neighborhood kids, well, sort of emotional support and helped them work through stuff in their lives. Age did not matter. I was funny, when I started High School, other kids (from across town) could not understand how all the 'big kids' knew me as everyone would greet me from day 1. Dad and his wife are very nice people. I have visited them several times in their town. All that is left now is my Mom and Sisters and we (Mom and I) are old ladies now. Her Mom should have been honest from the start.

2nd story: I don't understand why there can't be a compromise and have the middle name be Constellation? Schoolwise, no classmate will ever know and honestly, no one pays attention to a middle name other than family. Constellation would make a cool middle name. (Saying this from the experience of having "Star" as a middle name)

The OP in Story 3 confirmed they all carpool with a DD so chances are the lady wasn't driving back drunk with her kids. I know it's not entirely relevant to the question, but in case anyone wanted to mention her driving home drunk. Just thought I'd give a heads up Edit: I like how you actually pointed out the music this time lol 😁

Story #2-- Here's an odd idea: if the wife wants to honor her best friend, why not name the baby after her friend instead of her hippy name for her own child if she had one? Unless it's even worse than "Constellation" it's sounds like a logical compromise.

Not to mention, OP's statement was fueled by emotion frustration and anger. I think we can all agree that when we're upset, we dont think clearly. What OP said could very well have been meant, is his mind, how would you like it if, but came out jumbled due to his emotional stress. Where the wife coherently made the choice to manipulate the situation, and borderline, weaponizing their child. Her plan was thought out, because she knew how OP felt about the name.

Story 3: NTA, as an artist, that story was painful to hear! A single art piece can take DAYS or sometimes WEEKS to complete if you put a lot of effort into making it good! I'm not an easily angered person, but if I had been in OP's situation, I would have absolutely lost my shit!

With story 2, as someone who has grown up with a VERY strange name, I say ESH. The number of everyday inconveniences you gotta go through are so unnecessary. However, the behind-the-back statement was also completely unnecessary.

While I'm very sad that wife lost her friend (May She Rest In Peace) I think the fact that a child didn't have to grow up with that name, Constellation Vie, is a win for everyone.

My heart goes out to OP one. I have a daughter that I had no clue about for 7 years and when I got to meet her I was in the hospital half dead. She started coming up to the hospital every day to visit me. Her mom lived with her mother right by the hospital and the mother and grandmother both worked in the hospital. The babysitter would walk the block to the hospital for her to come see me. They left on vacation for a week and when she came home they came to visit me. I acted like nothing had changed and she went to give me a hug I hugged her back. I had surgery when she was gone and it had worked for me and I was able to move again. We cried. She is a nurse now and she is still one of my princesses . I only missed 7 years of her life but I made up for it every time she came to my house.

Story 1: NTA. She deserves to know the truth. It sucks that your ex died and she didn't deserve it, but death doesn't erase wrongdoing. Story 3: NTA at all. Time to move out, OP. In the meantime, prop the heaviest piece of furniture you have against the door. Maybe press charges if you can. Story 4: I'm with Mark. She's absolutely trying to flex. NTA.

To op of Story 1, NTA. Honesty is the best policy especially with new relationships. Your relationship with your daughter is important. She is looking to you for answers you don't have. You did the right thing not filling her head with a bs sob story for the comfort of others. You told her what happened and others are mad because it makes them look bad. She is mad now but she will calm down in time. Its up to the uncle and grandparents to make up for their part in the lie. When the dust settles, those who honestly care about her will be by her side.

Hi Mark. Yes they do have little tux's for newborns. My nephew who was a few days old at my Wedding (35 years ago) wore a onesie (all in one pj's) that looked like a tux. It even had tails! He was adorable and got lots of attention. As for this attention hogging Sister, sideline her just to be safe, unless she gives a sincere apology to the Bride. Not a very nice sister!

@thedestroyasystem3 жыл бұрын
Omfg same. My mom thinks the name is perfectly fine... it’s literally so cringy. Grimes and Elon are both insane, I’m honestly worried for that kid. I can’t be the only one who thinks they had a kid for the aesthetic and is just gonna ignore them once the novelty wears off, celebs do that all the time. I’m just not confident they’re fit to be parents... the name is the epitome of that.
