I learned that too as a heavy duty mechanic, until one day doing the same situation when I was pushing down on the breaker bar, when broke loose, some object on the ground interfered with my finger and ripped the nail right off! So! Make sure the grounds clear!

a long time ago I work in a welding/ag repair shop and a gentleman who had been working for the better half of 50 years saw me trying to break some 1-1/2 bolts lose on a planter he stopped he from pulling up on a 48” breaker bar and told me that you always push instead of pull you get more leverage pushing down and if need to slide a piece of pipe on it and you can move almost anything I did and it worked I still use his advice to this day

Having an ileostomy myself for over 25 years I know its easy to get complacent and over-do it. There are a lot of ostomy support belts out there that can help. Sometimes I will double up with an ileostomy belt, special appliance, and a standard back belt. My doc simply said to "take my foot off the gas". Cudos for showing people you can live a normal life with an ostomy with some care.

I was very self conscious of its size....day of the hernia op I weighed in at 126kg, next day after op I was 119kg, the 7 kg was fluid the body created to protect the bowel outside of muscles....I'm now at 110kg (self imposed weight loss, my height is 6ft2, I'm aiming for 100kg) Biggest issue was I carried around 2 drain bottles for just over a week, draining the blood and fluid still in the area. Returned to work after 2 weeks on light duties for 6 weeks. Still careful even now about ripping the hernia repair..... So glad you didn't get what I was afraid of which was that tire blowing up in your face. Anyway you are probably right about the locktight. That flair up is exactly they way locktight does. Someone did that because that wheel wasn't staying tight I'll bet. Couldn't figure out what was causing the problem and took that short cut. I'm betting the wheel seal problem will become clearer as this progresses. Hope you get better soon.

It was lunchtime and we all decided to take my truck to the restaurant but we needed to unload a crate engine from the back. I said I would pop the top if one of the other guys would get the engine hoist. He wanted to manhandle the crate to the ground and I asked him if he had ever had a hernia. He said, "Yes." I said I haven't and don't want one, so we'll use the engine hoist to hoist the engine. I had no doubt that we might have been able to get the engine to the ground by hand, but if someone's foot slips or they lose grip, the dynamics change, and all of a sudden someone gets hurt.

If the truck has a rear drum brake and a failed axle seal, it's possible to remove the axle shaft and then the nut and bearings with the wheel jacked up just enough. You put a plate or sheet of heavy material down on a reasonably level surface. You soap the plate. Thick soap or tire butter. With the height right and no load upon the tires, you remove the bearing by pulling the assembled dual rear wheels. You just slide them and use a long bar. With the drum exposed by turning it around, you change the seal etc. Remove your flat plate floor material. Clean up, do brakes and or hydraulics accordingly. You are ready to assemble with good axle seal installed. Put your floor plate back down, lube. Position the dually and slide it back in looking through the center and around behind to get it lined up. Once it's home with the seal engaging properly at your preset height and centered, you put in the outer bearing and nut. You put a new axle shaft o'ring on if required. You assemble the axle shaft. You get your floor material out. You're able to finish by lifting one side, then the other, and topping up the diff. You've bled wheel cylinder after setting the pedal pressure as required for a final check. You adjust the shoes to the drum accordingly during the process. You never touched the lugnuts. This works, and it doesn't matter how big the dually is because it's weight is on that floor skid. Bob's your uncle. No hernia. No medical issues. Don't tell anyone. It's your secret. Hope you get well soon but ask about complications for hernia surgery because there are some issues that make their methods questionable. At least there were. Hope they solved them now. Remember to fill the Dot 3.

Casey, I'm 72 and like you only quite a bit bigger... I did wear size 36 jeans cause the were comfortable an making the 34's fit restricted some movement as my shoulders were 52 inches tight with a seventeen inch collar... six foot even and 250... up and down five pounds with seventeen inch guns. In other words a lot of iron was jacked in the military an was entered into army olympics. Yes too big for having normal fun. I started getting hernias and tried to bargain.. and it nearly cost me my life twice so think hard about how serious that you take them. I worked real hard and hard labor jobs as a mechanic. Heavy equipment mech. I lost so much weight when I broke most of my back and neck in a serious accident. I was placed in a coma and later when brought too this world again skin just hung on me, I looked like a freak and it did tear me up in my head too thinking about my future. That was seventeen years ago almost. I had layers of skin removed from my arms and some corrective stuff done on the neck area. Once you loose it, it just doesn't come back at a older age. Now I look like a damn foot ball for a physical body shape and hope for better times. I can appreciate the work done on that ten and a half sterling rear end as they can be real nasty to get apart. In fact "watch wes work" did one here recent an it was a bear. Just think before you do something you can't undo

Casey, You obviously know about using a torch around a mounted wheel; because You had a water hose at the job site. But for those who don't know, Be very Careful When using a Torch or Welding on a mounted wheel. In the Military, I saw catastrophe results from the rim being heated. Yes a stuck brake can do this also. The pressure in the tire will get so high it will explode, and also if a Tire Stop Leak was used it may be explosive. Anyhow a Big Bang will result. You did have a water hose to cool the rim.

In Sweden there was an accident like that which killed a guy in a tire shop. The leak fix liquid inside exploded. One should always deflate the tire before heating, and also put your nose out to detect a possible explosive. The tire should ideally be off, but in Casey's situation unfortunately not possible with dual wheels ☹ Be aware and careful guys 🤘

Casey, I've had two hernias repaired. #1 I had from childhood, wore a truss for many years, finally had surgery at 25. #2 I didn't know I had it until CAT required an intensive physical before I changed assignments and had surgery on it. Recovery after the surgery was not a long process but recovery immediately after the surgery nearly killed me. I thought I was gonna die 3 wks after the first, so went to the doc's off. and the nurse pulled the stitches===immediate relief. Second surgery, doc wanted me up immediately after (first doc did too). Well, getting up immediately after having a "spinal block" instead of a local or general anesth. is a no-no. The fluid for a spinal is lighter than the spinal fluid, so it goes up to your brain and hello MONSTER HEADACHE!!!! i HAD 20 hrs of horror. But after three weeks I could go to work. I realize by now you've probably had the surgery but if not beware.....

I wish you a speedy recovery. It is exponentially easier to start the nuts moving when you have all the vehicle weight bearing down on the wheel. Back when I did roadside briefly, I would sometimes get ahead of myself and jack up a vehicle before I'd systematically loosened all the nuts. Sometimes I could use brakes to hold the wheel sufficiently still, and proceed to swap out the wheel anyway. Sometimes, not. I'd have to lower it back down completely. Be safe.

It's too bad that you can't select the time when you want to have an injury sideline you. Mu dearly departed father had 3 double hernia surgeries over the years. The year before he died, he had one of the mesh patches blow out doubling him up in pain. The surgeon this time was an extremely good surgeon that probably does 7-10 hernias a week and pain management has come a long way. He received a Pain Ball with a narcotic inside that slowly dispensed to alleviate pain, and it worked. The surgery was a success. Casey, the military use to issue with the M35 and 809 series trucks a torque multiplier that was geared and used 2 bars for leverage. I've used it on a couple of occasions to break loose the lugs on my M923. Once loose, the Milwaukee impact spins them off with no issues. I've got a one inch torque wrench that is close to 7 feet long and works well for torquing the lugs back to spec or 1050 ft/lbs.

I'm a U Haul technician, those lug nuts are torqued to 475 ft pounds. The only substance on them are copper antisieze. Since you heated them, all the studs and nuts have to be replaced now as that's Uhaul policy, they could fail at any time now that the temper has been changed. Also if you are going to heat any wheel with a tire mounted it should be deflated so it doesn't over pressurize and explode in your face. Work safe and put out a safe product for the customer.

Wheel seals 101, all the above that you stated plus one other thing. If the vent tube is plugged or blocked and the differential gets hot, the oil will off gas, creating pressure in the bearing hub and blowing out the weakest seal first to releave the pressure. As for your hernia, that sucks man, take it easy and I know the belt sucks, but it prevents you from doing further damage.. Stay Safe and great content, thanks for the share!

Years ago I was given a free convertible couch. To make a long story short, while getting it in to my house I lifted wrong and tore one of the two parts of my right biceps off at the elbow. It sounded like a muffled gun shot to me, my buddy asked why I dropped the couch, then saw that I was in pain and asked "did you hurt your back?". It took me a few seconds to catch my breath and figure out what just happened, then I said "I think I tore something in my right arm, you didn't hear it ?" he said no. Anyway three days later I had surgery to reattach what had pulled away from the bone. They had to cut both the inside and the outside of my elbow, effectively going all the way through to pull the torn end of the muscle back to the outside of my elbow to reattach it where it belonged, right where your elbow would contact a table if you were sitting with your hands down on it. I couldn't use my right arm for three months. Luckily I haven't had any major problems with it since.

You are an inspiration Casey. I'm 64, had 3 hernias, busted 3 vertabrae, down to bone on bone in my right knee and still doing 2 jobs.. but.. not with an iliostomy (probably spelt wrong).. I love your honesty mate.. Also I've never seen snow, fascinates me..

Wishing you a speedy recovery. I had a hiatal hernia back in 07 that took months to heal after surgery. I’m just like you I do what I’m going to do and deal with what happens.

Well Casey sorry to hear that you have a hernia. Wish you a speedy recovery when and if you need surgery. Your smart enough to protect yourself until then. As everyone including me will tell you that you should be relaxing and not doing strenuous work, but as stubborn as we are we keep doing what we shouldn't be doing. Anyhoo get a helper for all your tasks on the business level side so that you don't hurt yourself any further. Good luck and take care of yourself...

I had the same thing happen to me back in 08 when I was working for a propane company as a driver. I had surgery to repair a small hole and they stitched it. Well 2 years later I ended up ripping that open. Then I had another surgery but this time they used a small piece of mesh about the size of a post it note. So 2 more years go by and you guessed it I managed to rip the mesh. I wasn’t doing any heavy lifting but I was using weights every now and then when I worked out. The final surgery I had to have abdominal reconstructive surgery where the pulled the muscle back and put in a big piece of mesh about the size of a sheet of notebook paper. I haven’t had any issues but I have a restriction of lifting no more than 40lbs. That restriction never off. I also can’t gain a lot of weight as it will pull on it. Good luck and expect a few weeks recovery at home not lifting much. I know this is what you do so make sure you talk with your surgeon on restrictions so you don’t end up back in surgery. My last surgery took 6 hours to fix. Judy remember to be careful lifting anything. Take care. 😎👍🏼

Just a suggestion from experience.. always use a downward motion so you can use your body weight instead of muscles and straining yourself. I have a hyatial hernia from that exact motion you was doing. As the old man told me work smart not hard.. love your vids as always.. God Bless and wishing a speedy recovery

Am wondering if you aired the tyres down completely before getting the nuts/rims red hot ? Was very very nervous watching you do that.

Casey, have you ever tried using a welder, on DC, connect the two leads at points as close as can be done. Like on the stud end and the other on the nut. Turn on welder at around 80-100:amps. It will get very hot very quick. When it's cherry red remove clamp and let it cool down, cooling slowly will remove the temper so it has to be cooled a little faster but not to fast or it will make the parts brittle.
