Hhey . You can see how to install the drive pinion shaft bearings

How in the world do you remember what goes where, and avoid assembly errors ? In a motorcycle group I frequent, there are recorded a number of problems traced back to improperly assembly when the engine/trans was previously apart or even at the factory.
@CurmudgeonTransmission3 жыл бұрын
It's easier nowadays with cell phones. In the old days just keep everything together the way it came out and reverse assemble it till you did it enough times you had it memorized.

Hy,Mr tom, I want to replace the pinion bearing, is there a video tutorial?
@CurmudgeonTransmission Жыл бұрын
I don't have one. Sorry. Have not had to replace a pinion bearing yet. The few I have seen have all been the primary pulley.

Those are selective to set the end play. I do not know the part number for them. Dealership may sell them. Used I would try Slauson's or Bishop's, links are in the description.

your video is very inspiring, i am on my third TR580 replacement all pulley had blemishes i hope this last one is ok , just replace yesterday , oil is to be added and to reprogram. which scanner do you use for reprogramming , i have the Autel Maxicom, is that ok?
@CurmudgeonTransmission3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I have only done a couple of these, and the pulleys seem to be a big problem on them. We do not program ourselves. We use the unit Transtar provides and pay for each one. Check with them about it. The unit is free to use you just pay per program. As far as the scanner we use, it is the Snap-On Solus Edge. The one you have will not reprogram either. It will do coding but not reprogramming. Depending on what you primarily work on is to which unit you should buy to do that as not any one unit will do everything well. You will just have to do some research and see what units you work on the most need it and which unit will work the best for that.

Hard to say. I had trouble getting parts for these when parts were easier to get. Probably the dealer. You could try Slauson's or Bishop's, links for both are in the descriptions of the later videos.

What's the difference with this TR580FHDA for out back and this one coming with forester and FDAA for legacy
@CurmudgeonTransmission3 жыл бұрын
Those letters are for the different ratios. I'm sorry but I don't have anything that tells me what each one is. I would try calling the dealer and see if they can tell you what each ratio is.

Hi tom ,just a little clarity i need ,re programming and coding what is the difference i use the scanner for the relearning of the tranny ,is that enough for its normal functionality?
@CurmudgeonTransmission2 жыл бұрын
Using a scanner to "relearn a transmission" is fine for a normal rebuild where no solenoids or computers are replaced. Where you can have problems is when those get replaced. Some, I guess I should say most, of the transmissions now have flow rates that the computer is specifically programmed for. Changing them out requires "reprogramming" for that solenoids flow rate. Lots of them have the anti-theft built into the transmission computer so it will need the VIN programmed into it before the vehicle will work. Coding comes in with these aftermarket tuners. Where they go in and change specific parts they want to modify. Like when the lock up function works. Also, the days of swapping out a module with a used one are pretty much over, you run a real risk of ruining not only the module you replaced but may ruin other modules along with it as it will think you are trying to steal it and will lock the module down. Basically, making it a boat anchor. As a side note, when you are doing your quick learn or relearn, whatever you want to call it. Sometimes you will think it has done it, but it has not. Run into this a lot with Chrysler products especially. If it has the option, you need to do a battery reset BEFORE you do the relearn. It may not be on the transmission side either. You may have to look for it in other modules.

Hey would a 2015 crosstrek cvt work in my 2013 crosstrek.
@CurmudgeonTransmission2 жыл бұрын
Don't know for sure. I would need to have both units in front of me to determine that. As long as they look identical and all the info on the tag is the same I would say yes. Problem is there are so many variations on transmission these days, sometimes within one year you can really get yourself in a pickle swapping things out.

Good video, how many quarts of oil is use on a empty fill?
@CurmudgeonTransmission3 жыл бұрын
12.9 quarts. Maybe more, maybe less. Needs to be checked at 95-113F (trans temp, not engine). Is full when running out of the check port at that temperature.

how did you replace the pulleys ,that was not shown in the video
@CurmudgeonTransmission3 жыл бұрын
At the time I did this one I did not have the tools to do the pulleys. I have them now and there are two different types of pulleys on the Subaru. Open and closed, they take different tools. I got mine from Adaptacase. T-CVTAC, T-CVTSUBAC and T-SUBGEN2AC. adaptacase.com/tools.html

So I assume in order to replace that cartridge filter, you need to remove the trans? It's behind the torque converter?
@CurmudgeonTransmission3 жыл бұрын
You assume correctly. It's actually back further. In with the variator assembly back by the rear of the center case.
@silverado2500wr4503 жыл бұрын
@@CurmudgeonTransmission I remember some of the older models had a screw on trans filter. I figured maybe this was the same idea as the newer engine oil filters ( just a replaceable paper filter. But than as I looked around and didn't see a canister, right away I said " I bet it's in the trans". I know some of the Nissan cvt transmission have a replaceable paper filter behind the front cover( where the valve body is). This is a 17 Forester, so I would up just dropping the pan and replaced the screen. The screen alone was about $100 from Subaru. Just resealed the pan and reinstalled. By the way, good video. No over explaining. It's the only one I saw that actually showed the cartridge filter. I have a subscription to identifix and they don't even have the service manuals for the car on there. Anyway thanks for the reply.

Dear friend, I have spent a long time trying to find out where it goes or what is the input route in the transmission of the return line that comes from the exchanger. Does it go exclusively towards the drain pan, or does it lubricate or pressurize some intermediate part or mechanism on its way? Thank you very much for your reconstruction video.
@CurmudgeonTransmission2 жыл бұрын
I have only seen 2 and did not pay much attention to that part of it. Tried to find oil diagrams without much luck so far. Did find the oil ports labeled where the valve body goes. It does show the cooler return, so it at least goes through the valve body returning to the pan.
@elsocio6662 жыл бұрын
@@CurmudgeonTransmission Thanks for answering. Perhaps the cvt oil goes through the valve body just to get transmission temperature data before returning to the pan.

What to replace for a code p0841 ?
@CurmudgeonTransmission3 жыл бұрын
That is a secondary pressure performance code. Performance codes are generally something mechanically wrong. Possibly the sensor itself, if sensor is ok, would look closely at the secondary pulley or the valve body.
