The drop arm ball joint is a stupid solution to a problem that doesn't exist.
@barrettbilali97273 жыл бұрын
I had a Land Rover Disco 2 8-cyl in the USA. I recently purchased a Disco 2 TD5 while living in Morocco. I love the car. It just feels right for me. This video was helpful since I have a ball joint which needs to be replaced. Thank you.

have a 1991 Defender Diesel 2.5 and she has Not been started in sixt years, she is outside what is your advice to me before I try and fire her up...? Should I try and get her to turn over by hand first before I turn her over on the Battery? I am afraid I will destroy the Piston Rings I need advice Please......................................................................................

Remove the glow plugs first. Try turning by hand (you won't do it with the glow plugs in!) If it turns over ok, then a SMALL squirt of oil into the glow plug holes can help lube the rings initially. Disconnect fuel pump, and wind the engine over until you get oil pressure (gauge is good, but idiot light out will be ok). Then, refit glow plugs, connect fuel back up and try it out. Don't wind for more than 15-20 seconds at a time (heats up starter motor). All being good, it should start, may run a bit rough until it clears all the air out. They're a pretty robust engine, and as long as no moisture has gotten into the engine whilst it's been sitting, it should be OK. Good luck!

Not sure if you can help me but my 2001 110 has developed a steering fault.... from a central position it will only steer to the right. You can return it to the central position but it wont steer left from then onwards. There was a clonk from underneath when it went wrong and at the time I did engage the diff lock.... please help as I'm literally going round in circles 😂

My 70 Series 2A has a very pronounced clunk going over bumps, and the steering relay is leaking. Could a worn out relay be the cause of the noise? Should I replace it?

A real off roader that is not afraid to get down and dirty into the thickest of things. This car is not a sissy as with some SUVs we see on our urban roads intimidating small minis that they are tough. They rarely venture out in the wild. Let them show their muscle in the less traveled tracks and pick on their own size, The Land Rover!.

Hello thanks for your info, I've adjusted my steering box on my 300 defender seems that it's caused the steering wheel to shake at 70km don't think that the other joints need replacing but the Pittman arm movement up and down a little, will do further checks ,

Hi cris ! Nice videos... I learn enyvideo you put in youtube I have question, l have disco 98 300Tdi the problem is... wear irregular in the front left tire (camber negative) so what you think is the problem ????
@markd3ful9 жыл бұрын
well basically found the nut on the steering box drop arm loose,i mean hand tight loose,so i have torqued that up correctly and hit the locking tab over,strangely the rear steering bar(long) with the 2 track rods on was bent,this is bizarre,not been off roading since the summer,not hit anything,unless somethings clipped my wheel while its been parked up,its off tomorrow to get the tracking done,new bar and trackrods fitted,annoyingly cant work on it myself at the moment,works gone mental

So apart from the panhard rod and radius arms there are no rubber bushes in the steering?
@bedmember6 жыл бұрын
One side of my rear axle is protruding? What could be the possible problem?
@jeremylakenes68596 жыл бұрын
Great video. If the tires are not touching the radius arm and there is some more room before it touches, can a person adjust for a bit better steering radius? Because my Defender turns about the same as an old crew cab long bed Ford.

All that wheel rocking is great training for when you're stuck in mud to your axles. You should bring your assistant to some fun track next time you go wheeling :)

How did you attach the camera to take video whilst driving? I’m wanting to do similar to help find a knocking when going around roundabouts.
@trailerfitter28 жыл бұрын
+dangerousdamo go pro camera bolted to the bottom of the bumper.
@dangerousdamo8 жыл бұрын
Bolted, good idea, was worried that the sticky pads may not be man enough and the strapping it may lead to too much vibration in the camera.
@trailerfitter28 жыл бұрын
dangerousdamo Sticky pad perhaps is okay but I don't trust them. Just drilled and bolted through with M6 bolts and nuts.

The only thing I would add is for the Discovery 2’s the steering shaft from the steering wheel to the steering box will fail over time. Essentially the universal joints wear out. It’s one of the main causes of death wobble and sloppy steering for Discovery 2’s.
@camodrums3 жыл бұрын
Do the LR3's have that same issue?
@philrogers17585 жыл бұрын
jeez I've never seen such rusty under body componants as in the UK, I thought landies leaked enough oil to keep em good. Even with regular beachwork here in Au the suspension and chassis keeps its paint on, I've never seen a rusted diff. The sun kills all our paint, rubbers and interiors, on my 88 rangie the door waist seals and window rubbers are all shrunk and hard as rock. I got some door seals from a 90 model in the UK and they are as soft as new

My defefneder turns less got the left, than to the right. E.g. 1 and 3/4 turns right. But only 1 and 1/3 left. Hits steering stop bolt when turning right but still has 1" to go on the left?
@trailerfitter26 жыл бұрын
Check that the steering components or wheels are not fouling on anything.
@RRanks6 жыл бұрын
Land Rover Toolbox Videos should the drop arm be straight forward when steering wheel is straight. Mine is slightly to the left maybe about 40 degrees? I can't see it fowling on anything? Could it be the rods need adjusting or tightening?
@trailerfitter26 жыл бұрын
Take a look at replacing the steering box video I show in there how the steering box should be set up before fitting the drag linkage. There is a reference point which is used. Perhaps your drag link is maladjusted? or bent?
@RRanks6 жыл бұрын
Both drag link and track rod end needed removing and refitting as the last person to do it had wound in one side more than the other. Then tighten them both up and its much better. Thanks for your help and videos!
