In this episode of Gay & Over 40, the Vlog series, I look at how travelling has changed for me now that I'm in my 40's.
From travelling on a dime in my 20's to needing my creature comforts in my 40's, a lot has changed and expectations are high!
Experience changes us, and as we get older we know what we want and need to make a trip memorable but also comfortable. Can you relate?

In your youth you are willing to put up with hardship for the sake of adventure. You'll sleep on a floor, your meals are at street carts and you are on the go. You become attached to your comforts as you age. Sharing a youth hostel is not as fun as having a room

You may not have a budget for your channel, but you do have a very entertaining delivery style. Once in my 20s I spent the night on the floor and benches of a train station in Wales with my traveling companions after missing a ferry connection to Ireland. We had been given out of date ferry departure info at the UK travel agency where we bought our tickets so we wound up going right back to where we started. Now in my 50s, I can’t fathom doing anything like that. Perish the thought!. Thanks for another entertaining video Patrick.🥰🥰

I'm glad, thankful really, and for a variety of reasons, that I traveled when I did. Loved Europe, also for a variety of reasons. After a first trip it was the only place I really wanted to go. It met all my expectations and more.

One thing I've learned is that in travelling in Europe always upgrade your hotel room (even if they offer it free - doesn't always happen). 10/15 Euros a night makes a huge difference in your comfort.

In your 40's, 50's and 60's you happen to become very selective and just set up in your own ways. Now that I'm getting close to 60 I still enjoy traveling but definitely, I just don't party as I did 30 years ago.

What happens in your 50s: "Do I really need to travel? Is there any place that I really want to see? Have I seen enough already? Isn't it all just more of the same? Is this just some kind of travel-induced fomo? Is travel overrated? What is this competition to see as many places as you can before you die? Do you get some kind of prize? How many places have you been that you've already forgotten? Besides, you're going to be cranky, sleep-deprived, anxious, and disoriented. It's so much more comfortable at home. Why don't you just read a good book?" I literally have to push myself to move out of my comfort zone.

I'm in my early thirties, and honestly, I've been a sedative, two martinis, and sleep mask traveler since my late teens. (If you're six and a half feet tall, wearing designer clothes, and order a bone dry gin martini, no one will card you.) There is literally, *literally* nothing on any flight that isn't like Emirates First Class that is more luxurious than an extra six or however many hours of sleep. It's also the easiest way to fight jet lag. I arrive, and I'm ready to go. I go home and feel rested because I got an extra night's sleep on the plane going back. It's literally the best upgrade, and it's costs whatever two martinis in the airport bar cost. Even coach is fine if you're just sleeping through the flight. Spend the difference in price on a hotel that's more conveniently located. Pro tip: Most doctors will give you prescription sedatives to fly if you tell them it makes you super anxious and incredibly miserable, assuming you don't completely abuse the privilege.

You really needed a bottle of chill pills!!! Something I learned quickly: book a hotel that is in the area you want to be in. If you go out in left field to save $10 or $15 a night, you will pay more than that in cab fees. Best advice I ever got for jet lag--when you get there, stay up and moving until your regular bedtime. It seems to work. All airlines are bad says my travel agent, and he is right. But the cheapo airlines are worse. Two absolute must haves for travel: Ambien and Ear Plugs.

I'm in my late 50's near 60. A 30 year old guy asked for my phone number he later after we had a nice chat, he made the first move to hug me 😭💔 I later expressed my feelings for him💔😭 He then said "the real question is can you afford me, I like nice things and spend money every day" I feel worthless 💔😭 behind that smile profile picture is a loser💔😩😭

Pre pandemic/ post pandemic 😷, flying is a nightmare, I would rather take a train 🚂, a ship 🚢. , or a car. 🚘. Patrick , you look like you are in your early thirties, so you are doing something right. Have you ever been to a gay , all inclusive nude resort ? If yes, did you enjoy it ? If not , would you go ? Have you ever had full body massage, or been to a chiropractor? It can do wonders , for those aches & pains. 🌈🔥✨❤️

Patrick: I'm new to your channel but I'm enjoying it immensely. This one, in particular, because I'm a verified travel whore... I'll go anywhere, with anyone! I took my first trip overseas at 18 and now, at age 60-something, I've been to over 75 countries, and just got back from my second safari in South Africa. Yes... your need for creature comforts increase as you age, BUT I don't think that should slow you down! I still love the smell of jet fumes in the morning... my brain synapses SPARK when I'm in a new city, which is invigorating. (And yes, I still hook up with as many guys as ever, altho now I sometimes have to pay for it. Oops, that's for another video!) Keep going! And thank you!

Crystal hangover ? ... vs Time zone changes ? ... [Canadians !]( I never did pot or hard drugs ... 'cause in the US, they were ILLEGAL) I enjoy alcohol tho. You are cute/ attractive, but the Drama ! (or maybe just for KZbin, or in your 20's). You are intimidated at the questions at the airport ... ? I think you are going International ... Traveling across International borders where they ask you intrusive questions. The Mounties ask me the same when I drive up to CAN from WA/USA. Nice, entertaining, informative videos ... considering supporting you on Patreon. :-)
