I have some tiny ones I got a bunch of years ago from a trip to the beach, they look cool, but I'm pretty sure mother of pearl is only from the inner shells and not the operculum (That's the name of the white plate).

The shells were not cleaned so there is bacteria and parasites on that. Should that be at minimum flash steamed to kill that stuff if you plan to use it to put food on unless you plan to serve it with a side of anti parasitical medicine.
