Hi Natasha, just started following you because I'd love to learn more about caribbean recipes and so far, I'm loving this channel! I'm mexican and I have to say these pastelles are pretty similar to the mexican dish "tamales", we make them with corn dough and some filling made with our traditional ingredients, and we use corn leaves to wrap it, but in some parts of the country (specially southeast) they make them with banana tree leaves, like this one. Thanks for sharing awesome recipes so that the world get to know an amazing culture!

Hey Natasha, great recipe thanks so much. We also use the vegetarian Crumbles to make our pastelle. But just a little heads up for the vegetarians out there (I am vegetarian as well) - Worcestershire sauce is NOT vegetarian, it contains anchovies. There is vegan Worcestershire sauce available or the liquid Maggie (does not contain MSG) is a good substitute. Hope this helps. Keep the great recipes coming :)

Hi Natasha I want to try vegetarian pastelles for the first time, I bought mince soya and mushrooms in your opinion is that a good combination. Also the soya is the brown kind not the light color that you used. Thanks and have a merry Christmas and a blessed new year.
@TriniCookingwithNatasha7 жыл бұрын
Hello Ester, the dark soya will work also. yes mushrooms will go great in it as well. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

What can I use to get that weird smell off the soya
@lillian70354 жыл бұрын
Reeshma Rosan try soaking overnight in water with lemon juice or vinegar. I find it helps remove the off taste/smell.

I find that if you process the soya with the seasonings it enhances the flovor exponentially.

Why aren't you using banana leaves? Is this the came recipe which was displayed on Oct 4 on the sunny @ suindown show. Thank you
@TriniCookingwithNatasha7 жыл бұрын
Sybil Hogan I live in Florida so if I'm lucky to get banana leaves I use them if not I use the foil paper. I'm not aware of this showing on that show, if it did that's amazing.
