I was at a rally supporting universal healthcare and there were quite a few counter protesters. I approached one guy, who appeared to be over 65 and was carrying a sign reading "Government single payer healthcare will destroy America." So I asked him why he wanted to repeal Medicare. He literally could not understand me. I had to explain to him that the Medicare he was so glad to have was a government run, single payer healthcare plan. The expressions that went across his face as the cognitive dissonance propagated was amusing. I then asked why he was so opposed to everyone getting the same health care safety net that he had. He had no answer. And I am still not sure he learned anything.

Wulframm Rolf, if the rich pay more in taxes that fixes most of the problems, the trickle down never trickles down, it just piles up at the top. Free healthcare and education is a stimulus to the economy but it takes longer to pay off because people actually have to go to school and graduate, young and healthy people can become old and healthy until they retire, less people on unemployment because they couldn't get treatment for a treatable condition that has now turned into something that can only be managed mildly until death ultimately comes. That's the real trickle down, if we have people able to receive free education, it allows for not only a companies to work more efficiently because they are able to fill much needed positions, there are hundreds of thousands of jobs that can't be filled right now simply because there's not anyone in those immediate areas that have the education, qualifications etc. you mean to tell me that free education won't stimulate the economy tremendously? Same with the healthcare, it would be cheaper for the country in the long run..

I do not understand how he even dares to say all the hate, anger and racism suddenly being openly displayed by a bunch of americans is the medias fault.
