Isn't this crisis one of those moments in history that, a century later, people will wonder what they would have done had they been us? And like so many complacent or apathetic people in history that allowed things like this to happen, won't we be judged by how we act on this today, right now? I have a nauseating feeling, and it's only grown since Trump's candidacy, that all this will end up in a museum someday, somewhere, and the humanitarian crises will be treated in an exhibit as precedents and conditions for what follows.

Obama was not perfect, because the entire USA election system is too broken to get anything sensible done. But Obama and some of the Democrats tried. It's the Republicans that didn't want to give an inch. Remember the Gang of Eight proposal that passed the senate 68-32 and then Boehner just refused to have it voted on in the House? It would have passed and Obama would have signed it. IT is people like Boehner and McConnell and Ryan that are to blame for the current situation. But it is Trump that is now exploiting what they created and turning the USA into a military dictatorship or at least a banana republic.

Dan Shelton : This is why I loathe Trump supporters. They're so dumb you can only just roll your eyes. This policy was started by the dems during Obama's time, but they DID NOT forced the separation of children with their parents. That's something this new administration came up with. There IS NO law that requires them to separate children with their parents, unlike what Jeff Session wants you to believe. Just look it up yourself.
@robinpotter9636 жыл бұрын
thevine2010 Yup. Japanese Americans in California during WWII lost their homes, farms and businesses to be sent on trains and buses into the desert. Barbed wire and armed snipers. America is in big trouble. We are going where we should not go. Trump can stop it with a phone call. DACA doesn't need Congress. Trump stopped DACA with an executive order. He could restore it the same way. That Kirsten is a total idiot. She was unaware of the intelligence community report released 1/6/17: Assessment of Russian Activities and Intentions in Recent Elections. She either LIED about knowing what it said, Russia wanted to hurt Clinton and help Trump, saying she'd never heard of it. Or she's too ignorant to be in government. Homeland Security reminded me of The Fatherland when it was formed. Now we see children separated from their parents with NO clear way of how to reunite them. Deporting the parents? What are they going to do with the children? Maybe send them back too. Who knows. America has been stained with human rights abuses.
@TheFoxisintheHouse6 жыл бұрын
This is a crises. The United States is creating a hostage situation where the children are held captive. I repeat, that this IS a hostage situation where the children are held captive by the United States government and used as a bargaining chip. This is a very serious situation.

Greed my friend. We enslaved the black man, slaughtered the natives, and bought the American Dream. Fluff McMuff U.S. immigration law defines prosecuted adults as incapable of accompanying children. This makes the children with them unaccompanied minors, who *must* be processed in a way independent of the adults. The law compels that unaccompanied minors be sent through what is basically a refugee system set up for children. The reason for this is because of law, not policy. The law doesn't specifically say "children must be separated" - duh - but to enforce immigration law against adults who shield themselves with their children NECESSITATES their separation. There is no other way to do it without "catch and release," i.e. deportation without prosecution, where the natural answer for illegal border crossings will be to bring children with you to evade prosecution. The immigration law in question was passed in 2002 and signed for by the likes of Chuck Schumer (D). I understand well the argument that today is a new day and Republicans control the legislative and executive. A fair counterargument is that too many Republican politicians, too, are deluded and confused about immigration policy- chief culprit among them being Mitch McConnell, who I think most Trump Republicans strongly dislike anyway. Donald Trump's only way of stopping these separations is to engage in the same "prosecutorial discretion" President Obama invoked with DACA, which was a blanket call for non-enforcement (or, non-prioritization, depending on your stance). In such a scenario, Trump would altogether cease enforcement of immigration laws affecting groups of children and adults who make it past the border. This is inconceivable to the majority of Americans - a cross the finish line approach to veritable amnesty. To Trump's credit, he said he will take a liberal view of the law and reunite the children in time - something the U.S. is neither authorized nor obligated to do by its own law or by international law on migration. This conundrum is far more intricate than "Drumpf has a formal policy of separating families." He is ending "catch and release," by enforcing existing law, and the only way to enforce existing law with prosecution is to process these minors separately. And no, I am not a Russian troll or a fake Trump supporter. I support Trump on 90-95% of the issues.

Many of the migrants are fleeing countries where Reagan's bloody drug war & numerous CIA coups left many thousands of indigenous peoples disappeared or killed. The actions of previous administrations caused much of the underlying issues that lead people to flee these countries to begin with. There is the effect. What the Trump administration is doing is violating human rights. Those who do not learn from the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat it. Ignoring the crisis we caused won't make it go away. And the Colbear would come on right after and sarcastically proclaim their strength, from now 'till the end of time . . . ? You remember that, right? And now, look what's happening. **too smug**

Is this the end of the American dream? What are we without immigrants who are hungry for a better life. That is the energy that has kept this country ahead. Once everyone gets comfortable and closed in, the only possibility ahead is collapse. The Roman Empire ended long before the barbarians invaded because they were distracted by silly diversions and expected everything to be given to them because they are Romans. They were practical and resourceful when they started out as a city state

I have watched this happening and, you are correct. The rise and fall of America.
@volitionant96826 жыл бұрын
Baré Alchemist the US ha always been less lenient on allowing immigrants to come through. In recent years that’s changed, as immigrants began to pour through, although still nowhere near at the rate of other European countries. Now trump has come in to bring back order and prevent us from following the Europeans fate, meaning at the brink of a crisis. America is and always has been the definition of capitalism and despite the drowned out efforts of the establishment and a growing minority of socialists, I hope we will stay that way. In this sense change can be dangerous and perhaps even to the point of changelessness.

it is so sad that Americans either joke or enforce such atrocity against children without much action to fix this, it is another awful story in their inhumane history.
@mikebockey41256 жыл бұрын
i don’t laugh at anything that trump and his accomplices and his associates say or do any more. the funny part stopped being funny quite a while ago. and i’m not sad about it either. i have only anger, wrath and disgust. the time for satire and jokes is long over. and sadness is a waste of time and energy. anger is for times like this. righteous hate and actions are what makes things happen and manifests change. voting is fine, but who still trusts the elections? ask john brennan if he does. nothing has been done to insure that our elections any more secure than in ‘16. and why has there never been any real investigations into how much they were affected by foreign tampering? secure voting is a bank shot. the reason that it’s not being made 100% free from discrepancy is that someone wants it this way. 1+1 is 2. who has the most to gain from voter fraud? who has been redistricting and gerrymandering this nation for the past 20-30 years? who has repeatedly and deceptively told people they can’t vote or that the elections were on a different day or attempted to scare voters away? if you don’t know the answer, you’re not paying attention. now is the time for action. make phone calls. demonstrate your interests. i hear from people who say that they can’t listen to the news anymore because it’s too depressing. i understand that, but trust me, that’s exactly what the opposition wants. that’s part of this administration’s game plan of always pulling these gags and the never ending worse than the day before scenarios and the relentless and ridiculous tweeting. the constant drum of shit news makes a lot of people want to throw their hands up. there’s a factor of olfactory fatigue to these criminals’ scheme. and they’ve all got their mitts in the cookie jar while they’re trying to keep the rest of us arguing over whether or not the sky is blue and the grass is green. don’t put all your hopes in one basket either (mueller’s investigation). if that’s all there is standing between these mfer’s taking everything they want and the rest of us holding onto what this nation actually stands for then we’ve spaced ourselves too far apart on the picket lines. what was it that olbermann said at the end of his reports? -resist! peace.
