Updating my 2004 Infiniti FX35 to 2020 technology and making some small repairs.

For the next few weeks I plan on fixing a few common issues with my sixteen year old 2004 Infiniti FX35. I also plan to make a major upgrade to the factory infotainment system. I bought this car used in 2016 for $7500 and I really like it. I plan to fix the analog clock backlight, replace the lift-gate struts, fix the driver and passenger power seats, fix the cracked dash panel, and completely upgrade the factory stereo to a modern Android system with Apple Car Play. I am not a mechanic but I plan to share how I deal with each of these issues.

The gas lid actuator had not worked since I've owned the car, but I just use a credit card to lift it up. I hope the door locks keep working for awhile.

@@justprojects1038 I got the same car 04, the doors are such a pain when the actuators fail. but oh well. Also, did you get the car with dashboard bubbles? alot of younger fx35's had them

The bubbles were a recall so if that happens, contact the dealer and they will replace the dash for FREE!

I'm changing all 4 wheel bearings on my car as i have 2 bad ones on my 2010 FX35. i have over 175K mile son it and doing preventative maintenance now. i also will change my thermostat and Hoses... and before the summer new radiator and fan. I just replaced my rotors and pads and Spark plugs! I should have done the wheel bearings with the rotos, but didnt have them in yet. After this, bleeding my power steering, and i should be set for a while.

I bought the radio from AliExpress which is like a cross between Amazon and Ebay from China. The seller I bought from is KiriNavi. I ordered the Coverlay dash cover from a website called Carid.com. You can buy directly from Coverlay, but it's cheaper to buy from a discounting reseller.

Great video just a piece of information I have a 2004 and there was a recall on the dash if you call your dealer give them your VIN number years may qualify and it's free.

I had the car into the dealer for a headlight / taillight recall after I bought it and they did not mention anything about the dash. I did some reading after your comment and it seems Infiniti was replacing dashes for up to 8 years.

I also talked with the dealer and can confirm that the recall/replacement was for limited period. Very frustrating b/c it's a KNOWN manufacturer defect.

To be honest there is almost never anyone in the back seats so I can't say how well the rear AC vents work.

My guy! I also have a 2004 Infiniti FX35 AWD in black but with grey interior. really liking the black interior you have! I got 205K miles with minor repairs (mainly just door locks and wheel bearings all around) and have began doing performance mods to get a bit more out of this amazing car. I also have some damage to my dash. Idky Infiniti thought a soft touch material that is negatively affected by heat would be a good idea. I'm just going to get a cover for it. Also, im curious, I have the Sport Package on mine with all those goodies and have noticed that my exhaust is louder than other FX35. I wonder why this is. I have no exhaust leaks or anything. SUBBED btw ;)

I think the Coverlay cover I installed is available in several colors including grey. The new Android head unit was only in black from the seller I picked. I think a black cover over a grey dash could still be a good look.
