That's more tricked-out than the wealthiest school I went to, though, mind you, that school gets some of its "wealth" (a pool that does not transform) by sharing a building with a synagogue. And all the fanciest rooms in that building were, for the exception of a couple event days, reserved exclusively for the use of that synagogue. I even saw them doing the Hora once on one of those days. You know, the Jewish dance where the person rides in the chair, because they must have scheduled a bar or bat mitzvah at the same time as one of those school event days. And I bet that school not only was wealthier than that school but was completely devoid of the kind of abusive BS I had to put up with there (since that abuse stemmed from ableism - and classism because my parents didn't donate shitloads of money to them).

@@lanfrancoadreani9212 according to US census data 9.3% of residents in Beverly hills are under the poverty line. I know this is hard to fit into your peabrain, but there were poor people, and middle-class people (like vaush) going to that school too. Schooling is compulsory, and it's the only high-school in that area. Were there more rich people at that high-school than most? Yes Did the school have a lot of funds from high property values? Yes Does any if this mean that only rich people go to the school? No, that's ridiculous.

And just think about it for 5 seconds. It's an area with a lot of wealth in property tax, so the school is highly funded. But the students themselves likely live in homes where they can barely afford to live in the area--because the very wealthy people are mostly sending their kids to private schools. God, I've been out of high school for a year and a half and I'm already nostalgic about it. It was such an amazing time, college is do fucking depressing, it's extremely boring. I honestly think the system we use here in Serbia should be used more broadly. After 8 grades of "basic", or elementary school, you do a test and choose 10 high schools in your area that you'd like to go to. Judging by how many points you had on the test, and your grades during the last 4 years, you get the one wish closest to the top that you have enough points for. And the choice of school, even for here in Novi Sad, is vast. We have really strong trade schools here, I went to the medical high school myself, but you also have machine work, technical (architecture, textile, etc), chemical, traffic and others. You also have "gymnasiums", which are just basic high schools in a America, it's just an extended elementary school. You then have tons of courses in each school, for mine we had: nursing (I took this one), pediatrics, gynecology and obstetrics, dentistry, stomatology, laboratory technology, pharmacology and physical therapy. We then had actual practice, in hospitals. We sometimes spent a week just going to the hospital, no other school classes - just us working in the hospital. There was like 40 of us in our class, split into 3 groups. Mine was extremely tight knit, after all the shit we did together, we bonded quite a lot. FFS we were 17 when we saw a full open heart surgery. Around 16 we were taught how to draw blood, give injections, place catheters, give enemas, it was a wild ride. All of that, we started when we were 13 or 14. I really think thar having kids in high school work in groups like that is great for development and socialization. We literally never had any bullying in our class. That stuff goes out the window the minute you have to cooperate and do actual work (we vould've killed people if we screwed up in our case). One more thing - it's really funny seeing how huge that Vaush's high school is. Our school had like, 1,700 students in all courses in all 4 years combined. It's like a 7 story building... and that's it. Meanwhile Americans have a god damn football field, a swimming pool, and basketball court, a science building (we had like, a few classrooms for chemistry and laboratories with a few microscopes - thats it), and SEVERAL ACRES OF LAND. Well at least I had a sociology and a philosophy class. In sociology I first learned about daddy Marx, and in philosophy I had my first ever debate (about the death penalty no less - I was like 15 and we were talking about the state killing people and if it's moral). Now I'm feeling even more nostalgic about high school....

your school sounded cool. Mine was 4 stories . We had old videos asking will we make it to the moon. I did get to take psychology and sociology my senior year. I learned a Marxism in junior high. Almost everyone in my class became socialist. No one would debate the sociology teacher . They were scared of him. He had booming voice. I'm surprised I got a A in that class . the reason is I did everything at the last moment. And we were known for our Gospel Choir .

@@woobiefuntime Our sociology professor was also like that - no one in my class had an A in sociology. He was ruthless. He actually just skimmed over sociology, I never really learned much in that class. From our class I'm fairly certain I'm the only socialist, and I'd guess our professor was a bit more on the conservative side. I wasn't that into politics back then, so I didn't pay attention.

@@akorn9943 Actually a lot of young folks move out of Serbia, and our medical personnel are quite well known for being quite good. Also - we're dirt poor and did a genocide in the 90's. I think that's the main reason why we aren't being really looked upon by other countries. But seriously - trade schools like ours are amazing. It made going into medical college (I'm studying to be a radiology technician) quite easy and seamless. I still have practice, but it's much more just standing around, not really doing work like I'm used to.

this jock bully came up behind me and got me into a headlock. history class hadn't started yet and the teacher was out in the hall. I grabbed his arm and the back of his head, while bending forward I threw him over my head. I couldn't believe it worked. then the teacher walked in as I'm standing over him. the teacher was also the football/wrestling coach of the bully. he was well aware of who that kid was and was also aware that I never started anything ever. I just stood there like a deer caught in the headlights. he turned around and walked out of the room. I totally believe if it were me on the ground that kid would of gotten in big trouble. but dork wins and justice is done. thanks Mr. Michael 😎

I don't think that pools are as affluent as chat was suggesting. I know that not all schools have them, but in the US, a lot do. My high school (and the high school that I almost went to before we had to leave the area) both had pools. They didn't close into Basketball gyms, but my point is that pools seem to be kind of standard for really LARGE high schools. Neither were wealthy, (even though that's going to become a meme now that Vaush said that about Beverly Hills High) but they both had multiple thousands of students.

I'm saying that the school being large tends to make them more willing and able to have a pool, and it's common, because a lot of American high schools do have them. Also, I don't think they're necessarily all indoors. Maybe it is regional, but the schools that I've been to haven't been very wealthy ones. (Nowhere near Beverly Hills.) *Or maybe they're wealthy in relation to other schools in raw money, but not in relation to size? Not sure how much that matters but it might be possible. I'm guessing that it's not in a lot of truly POOR schools. But schools that are even lower middle class have them.

My highschool looked like a prison and it only had two yards outside besides the ones for sports. One yard was very small for the entrances and the other was behind the school to the side of it that stretched to the street. Also there was only FOUR outside lunch tables in the middle of a cement pave way and literally the rest was near the gym and in the common area which was by one of the two main entrances. They used to have more that was by a fire pit but they fucking removed it for more offices. I think my highschool was sadistic and wanted to emphasize control over the students. Seriously they had wired posts for a ramp that went to the only second floor we had. I remember having health class in the basement by the room where temperature and energy was controlled. I don’t think you realize how nice your highschool is compared to many others in rural areas. Just because it is public does not mean it isn’t nice. Hell maybe I could find some private schools in my state that does not look as nice as your school.
