I feel like in the comics he was kinda flat character-wise outside of rivalry interactions with Spider-Man.The symbiote had most of the personality. I think they did a good job of making him more interesting and able to hold his own story in a movie without Spider-Man.

Pretty sure he just highjacks Eddie’s digestive system, then supercharges it. Same thing with Eddie’s ability to heal and so on. The symbiote pretty much uses its host all the while pushing said host to its maximum potential, which is why Eddie’s temperature ran so hot in this movie. Not only is he sick, but all his systems are being pushed into overdrive.
