My grandma unexpectedly died due to her ovarian cancer. It was really upsetting because from the beginning of hearing her diagnosis, less than a year ago, I really did think she was going to be okay. When it was the day before her funeral (which we were forced to shorten the guest list to like... 80 people), our country went on complete lockdown. My heart was suffering. We still went out to see her at the funeral home, she was very beautiful. Her outfit was amazing and they fixed her make up to look more like her. Only three of her kids got to watch her actual burial, and the rest of us watched on a zoom call. We also had to have a funeral on zoom. It was depressing, but I was glad to honor her last time. Then, we checked online and it showed that the Prime Minister allowed white people to not only come into our country during a lockdown, but allowed them to have a full blown wedding, with a Junkanoo rush out (like a big parade of people) and hundreds of people in attendance. I’ve never wanted to scream or cry more. Our tiny, social distancing funeral where everyone was made to wear masks and stand six feet apart at all times was cancelled, but a huge destination wedding with no masks in sight was completely allowed by our government. This is soul crushing and I wish people would have more compassion and understanding for others around them.

I work for a nonprofit organization and travelled to Democratic Republic of Congo a few years ago. Met a bunch of little kids who were orphaned and/or had been child soldiers. Working in the hospital was pretty bleak. None of them had ever seen their reflection before (no mirrors in their community and no one can afford a camera). I took a picture of each of them on my phone and printed it out for them to keep. They called me 'camera' the whole time. A few days later I showed them the snapchat puppy filter and I kid you not it almost started a goddamn riot in that village. I'll never forget it.

Not to mention Tony Lopez taking advantage of a 15 year old, and Noah Beck mocking gay men. They all profit off their problems and mistakes. They make money from all this because of their fan base. to the polish person choosing high school: i have been in almost the exact same situation. im also polish and ive been in a very strict prestige middle school; long story short - IT'S NOT WORTH IT. i have to go to therapy now to deal with all the shit that school has done to me. from what i know from my friends who attended prestige high schools, it's a TERRIBLE pressure and you're often left on your own to learn everything. i am not going to assume anything about your school, it might be a good one but seriously. pick the school that has a better environment for you. you're gonna learn more in an open, safe space rather than in a stressful one. it might make it harder to move but it doesn't make it impossible. you're just gonna have to work harder in a nice environment rather than be pressured to overwork yourself. i hope you see this comment. sending good wishes to you
@indyferncja67844 жыл бұрын
I 100% agree. I too am polish and went to really good middle school and high school, and I also now have mental problems because of it. I would even go as far as to say that I wasted my teen years and for what really, since it all doesn't matter once you get accepted at the university. But honestly I don't know what high school has to do with moving, since studying abroad isn't reserved just for prestige schools with IB exams or smth, since many universities accept polish matura. Regardless, I hope you are happy with your choice, since school year already has started

I know everyone us making jokes about time travelling and showing people modern things. But I would like to say that it would be amazing to tell enslaved people in America that one day there would be a Black man elected to the presidency who's wife is a direct descendant from slaves and that they have two beautiful daughters. The whole family attends some of the best universities in the country and they continue to stand as icons of Black achievement and excellency.

As someone who had the same "prestige high school" problem 2 years ago, I would advice going for the prestigious one for sure. Dude, I hated it so much the first year and felt worthless but at the end of two years I realised that it was actually important for me to see the real competition in the world and to not be influenced by people so much. I've learnt to go on my own path and not give a fuck about what people say. Eventually it lead to me leaving with a lot of experience and a stronger mental health. So yeah, I wouldn't really trade the past two years for a live within my comfort zone.

They’re not so much domesticated as bred in captivity, if that makes sense. They come from Europe and Asia I think.
