Fun fact, the bonding time Donna and Sophie shared in that momment was improvised by Meryl and Amanda. They had to ability to do whatever they wanted to make it look real and the finish product made it on screen.

Originally, Sophie was supposed to have Donna paint her nails on a separate chair but Meryl told Amanda "No, come sit on my lap" I'm glad she did because it gave them more chemistry and made them look like a genuine mother-daughter duo.

It's harder to fully support one's voice with breath when the song is a bit more quiet and doesn't require the full column of breath. This song was the hardest on her breath in entire movie.

Remember watching her singing together with Amanda "MY LOVE MY LIFE" in the second film during the semi final scene.Donna's supposed spiritual presence with her daughter feeling her mothers hug and caress. The harmonies could melt you.The emotional transmission unbelievable. That was so greatly impactful like an over emotional shooting arrow straight to the heart.I remember almost everyone in the theatre was sobbing.Even some male viewers, while trying to swallow their tears. The lump in their throat was still visible in the darkness.lol

I remember during the last week of high school, twenty one years ago, my best friend and I went to a local park and just sat on the swings watching all the little kids playing with not a care in the world and their whole childhood still in front of them. It was such a bittersweet moment between us. We knew that in just a few short days our lives would change forever and we just wanted to hold onto our childhoods for just a little longer. I am forever grateful that we took that time amidst the chaos of that week to pause, reflect, and take that deep breath as we were hurdled into adulthood. This song will always remind me of that time at the park where time was slipping through our fingers.

It's hard for me, as a fan of iconic Swedish group ABBA, to comment on musical versions of their songs, like the ones in the "Mamma Mia" movies i think Meryl Streep does a very decent job with the song As a great actress that she is, she performs the song very well, and without becoming a singer, she sings quite well but having two fantastic singers in ABBA, like the blonde soprano Agnetha Fältskog and brunette mezzo soprano Anni Frid 'Frida' Lyngstad, with such excellent voices and vocal ranges, They are inimitable second to none and unforgettable in their great performances. "Slipping through my fingers" (1981) is on ABBA's eighth album "The Visitors" It has the exceptional peculiarity that its lyrics were composed by the guitarist Björn Ulvaeus, inspired by the growth of his 7/8-year-old daughter Linda and the times that he did not share as a non-cohabiting father, and the main voice chosen was that of Agnetha, the mother of his daughter, who is the one that transmits the most emotions in ABBA songs here is a link of ABBA performing live in a TV special the song "Slipping through my fingers" and I suggest you do the reaction, so you can see the difference kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6ezhZeAnZedbNU PS: The same thing I say goes for the other songs from the musical and the Mamma Mia movies that in a lot of comments have been suggested here, especially: S.O.S My love my life The winner takes it all With all due respect to the actors and actresses, there are NO performances like the ABBA Originals I hope to see the reaction to ABBA My best regards to You from Buenos Aires, Argentina

It hit me hard, and I had a small crisis. Now, every single time I listen to this song, I think about my little sister, and I can't help but cry. Side note: English isn't my native lenguage. Please, excuse my grammar. 💖

Thank you for the refreshingly honest and realistic assessment of her singing skills. It's quite sad, that it's become impossible to not be raving all the time and not be perceived as a dismissive jerk. It should be normal to not be called superlatives all the times and still be good enough. There's nothing wrong with that.

Well because people will say she can’t sing when that’s objectively false, some people need to justify their belief that movie actors should never do movie musicals by claiming she can’t sing. Nobody is saying she’s the best singer ever but there is no need for people to diminish her singing abilities to raise up Broadway performers.

I really wonder what could've happened if she had gotten the roll of Evita. I think my mom genuinely felt like Meryl was robbed of the role, and God only knows if she had that accolade under her belt how much better she would've been here. Love Meryl. Love this scene. As a mother of a 5yr old and soon-to-be 2yr old girls (who is still a bit of a momma's girl herself), this scene just melts my heart. When my daughters are bigger, I'm fairly certain this will make me cry. My mom and I absolutely huddled/ snuggled in our sears when we saw this at the movies. Fun fact, this soundtrack was CONSTANTLY being played as I went to college, Fall '08.
