Spent the last hour after watching this trying to find a restaurant in Melbourne that makes Okonomiyaki like this, but I think we only have the Osaka style here. Now I'm just sad and hungry!
@WaoryuONLYinJAPAN9 жыл бұрын
Daniel B If you can find the sauce, you're most of the way there! The recipe for the Osaka version is quite easy. Many Asian stores have the sauce. You may even be able to get the nori seaweed flakes and dried fish flakes mail order! Usually takes about 10 min to make one on a fry pan :) Maybe you'll have people lining up outside your door when the heavenly smell hits the air! -John

Of all the fantastic, wonderful dishes of Japan my favorite by far is the Hiroshima version of okonomiyaki. Aside from sushi it should be the national dish of a wonderful nation. I lived in San Francisco for 25 years and have found only one restaurant that sold anything similar to the dish. At this restaurant in Japantown it was known as 'modern yaki.' A great dish indeed but nothing near the the gem of a meal I had in Japan so many years ago. Thanks for posting this.

We have an okonomiyaki restaurant in Toronto which has been in continuous operation since 1978. However, now that I see how they make okonomiyaki in Hiroshima I think the ones we get in Toronto have lost something in translation; they're not quite so complicated in their construction. I swear I could almost smell how good they were in this video.
