In case this can help someone: I've had swelling for years and was diagnosed with lymphedema. Losing weight has helped a great deal, but also eliminating canola oil from my diet turned out to be just as important. There was a visible decrease in swelling when I started cutting back on canola, even before I lost the weight. Even now, having lost over 40 lbs., if I'm not strict, or if I accidentally have food with canola oil in it, the swelling increases overnight and takes several days to decrease. Non-GMO olive oil and avocado oil are fine. Staying away from seed oils in general seems to help.

Canola oil is an oil from the canola plant. The canola plant is a type of rapeseed. While rapeseed contains a compound that can be harmful, the canola plant does not contain this chemical in large amounts. Canola oil is commonly used in foods. ( IT'S TOXIC AND IS USED TO KEEP FOOD FOR LONGER AS IT KILLS / INHIBITS BACTERIA FORMATION. SHEEP FED ON THE RAPESEED PLANT LOST THEIR WOOL AND LOOKED TERRIBLY ILL.)

Thank you very much, I am so glad I found this video. All my current and past medical issues have been caused via several D.V.T's in my ankles, calves and hips, also I pulmonary embolism. I realise how very lucky I am to be alive. However I also have non working peripheral valves at the back of my knees, and venous incompetency all due to blood clot damages. I've had several bouts of leg cellulitis and have been diagnosed with secondary lymphodimia which requires taking water retention tablets for life, and wearing compress hosiery..I've also had several leg ulcers in the past as a result of same condition. I have ankle ulcers currently and other physical health issues, multiskeletal joint issues which doesn't help a great deal...So I've looked up several self help videos to see what I may do to assist myself besides the medical devices I've been given. I've lived with these conditions almost most of my life having my first ankle DVT when 29 years old. As I'm getting a lot older, I have to pay even more attention than before to what's going on, so the more info I can gather the better. Thank you for your info in regards to this condition, that not many people understand the effects it has upon one's life, unless they have it themselves of course. My legs also suffer with excemia and dermatitis because of the lymphodimia and are burning and itchy most of the time. Emollient creams help twice a day, but sometimes the discomfort is almost unbearable! So thank you once again for this video and please keep me posted for anymore you may have on this topic!

I have been watching lots of videos and hearing things about all of things that cause swelling , but no specific descriptions of what it looks like. Heard this one doctor saying if it is right leg swelling then it is the liver, if left leg swelling it is the heart and if both legs swelling it is diabetes. But your descriptions and pictures are very thorough, and I am certain now it is venous.

I'm guessing the cause for me was a class of blood pressure medications that end with "pine". My doctors spent three years doing tests like ultrasounds from head to toe looking for something and they did it twice then a kidney specialist took me off of Nepedipine and the edema went away within a few days and I lost 50 pounds in three months. After a year I lost 70 pounds my pants size went from 38 to 32. My primary care doctor wanted me to try Amlodipine to see if it was the nifedipine or the class of medication because my blood pressure is still a little high but not serious. Within 3 days my feet and legs were swollen and pitting I could barely get my new pants and shoes on. It took about a week for the edema to go away. I took nifedipine for 30 years but did have problems with it until about 6 years ago so I'm kinda think something else might be causing it but I'm not sure, the doctors find everything else normal for someone my age.

@homemade6950 Жыл бұрын
If it's an electrolyte issue there is a reason why your craving salt. It's because your body is struggling to balance the salt, water, potassium and magnesium. Might think of trying an electrolyte supplement without sweeteners in it to see if that helps. These are drops you add into your water and to help your body balance.

I believe you forgot to mention the removal of lymph nodes due to abdominal cancer operations. I had a hysterectomy because of small a stage 1 non metastatic cancerous tumor. Although, the doctor said he would test the nodes during the procedure, and leave them if they were clear, he removed half of the trunk nodes. The Stanford doctor who subsequently examined me, and the swelling, said, “I don’t know the rational he used to remove them. The report says they were all clear.” I wrapped my legs every night in three layers of treatment gauze , and Ace bandages, and went for physical therapy for medical massage machines. This went on for three, or four years with no apparent improvement. One day, I said “no more!” The quality of my life had been do impaired I decided having swollen legs was better! Over a short period on time, I noticed that the swelling had subsided. Over the next few years it was minimal. Having lost weigh also may have helped, though I was barely overweight.

I have lymphoedema, it is caused by medication - according to a consultant but not for heart, blood pressure or anything like that - and led to cellulitis [which I came down with right after recovering from COVID, great end to 2019 I don't think]. I no longer fit into normal shoes - I wear jandals [you might know them as thongs??] most of the time around the house - so exercise is difficult in the extreme [am now considering trying to get shoes made to fit me] and I am told that apart from exercising and resting with my legs up - neither is practical on a daily basis - which MIGHT help I'm stuck with it. I do notice that the heat/summer makes things worse though. I should add I don't have heart, lung or blood pressure problems and I'm not diabetic or even close to it, although another side effect of the SAME medication that gave me lymphoedema is also weight gain so I am overweight which won't be helping me. I might try making an appointment with a local podiatrist to see if they have any other suggestions so thank you for giving me the idea.

Perhaps try seeing a doctor with holistic experience that has helped many people with this issue. Ashwagandha is herbal remedy or supplement through medical studies that helps with inflammation swelling areas, stress and cortisol levels, evening out blood sugars, insomnia and many more things. I’m not saying that is necessarily what you need, but my medical dr also practiced holistic medicine. Many times when I came down with cold or flu from work she would tell me over the phone what to get and half the time saved me a dr visit. I learned alot from her. Elderberry was often something that helped me quickly when I felt a cold coming on that usually started with hay fever.
