Phenomenal podcast! I really like full arts. My favorite has to be the mana crypt box topper from the first double masters. The art is beautiful and the primary color closely matches the old brown artifact color. Above all the frames (for me) are custom alters. Nothing like having a truly unique card in your deck that you helped design the art for.

Future Sight border is the best and truly wish that was the permanent frame. It introduced the official Type symbols and had mana cost on the left in a way to let you read them in fanned out hand.

The Strixhaven Mystical Archive frames are my favourite. I have a complete set of both the English and Japanese ones.

Blind obedience looks great in Wilds of Eldraine but the framing looks good on the white cards. Also I loved the retro framed artifacts in the brothers war definitely something that needs to be done more often.

A couple of interesting ones that slipped through are the signature spellbook, full text lands and textless frames (cryptic command probably being most iconic). I like that various mechanics have their own affect on frames as well such as the snow, devoid and miracle frames.

"Ancient coin" was probably the original idea, but it just comes across as a Power Ranger medal because the colored borders just line up decently well with Ranger colors. Cam's take that they should have been fossils or amber would be pretty cool to see, as well.

I love STX Mystical Archives, especially the Japanese ones! Made a Grixis deck on the regular MA ones and a Golgari for the Japanese. I also made the entire deck in japanese just to match it and I like it when people will try to read my card only to find that they cant. Lol

30:59 Borderless are full art cards with alternate art. Extended art is cards that have the art extended horizontally and occupy a little more of the card.

I personally just lump showcase frames that are set/plane specific into one whole category. I consider these my favorite just because I like having the most chaotic set of arts possible. Pretty much agree across the board that the old borders are the best though.

So to try to help the confusion, and hopefully not add to it. What Dylan calls full art are typically called borderless and the biggest difference between them and extended art is the borderless art is always different from the standard version of the art in the card, meanwhile extended art is, as the name suggests, just an extended, or stretched out, version of the standard art. The borders that are set specific, starting at Throne of Eldraine, are called the showcase, because it showcases something about that plane. I did want to bring up that Cam said the THB full art lands aren't lands they are a source of energy, but if you think about it that is what lands are. They are a mana source and mana is a source of energy. Sorry for the wall of text, great work as always boys.

As a new player (late 2022), I got the Urza precon without knowing anything about the borders and I loved the retro frame and by extension old border, they feel so much more evocative than the most recent frame. I also really dislike the legendary frame, it's good to visually distinguish legendary things but I don't like that specific crown shape.

My biggest issue with old cards is the rules text. The frame looks great (I prefer the modern ones, but the old frame looks just fine!), but the rules text... doesn't. I can understand what new cards do just fine, even complex cases. (I'm the kind of person who enjoys reading the Comprehensive Rules. Yes, I'm weird, I know.) But with old cards, it's often confusing. Have you ever tried to read Chains of Mephistopheles as printed? On the other hand, the Oracle text is perfectly clear. This is even an issue with cards whose rules text hasn't changed at all - when an old card does something completely strange that new cards just don't do, you don't know if the rules text still says that or if it was errata'd at some point in time. I honestly wish that people who print proxies put the Oracle rules text on them. I wonder how hard that actually is.

I ran into someone running Bident of Thassa in old border from the Urza precon, and I kept forgetting it was also an artifact (even though I was also running it the deck I was playing). The old border really doesn't work for the new colored artifacts. Not everything needs an old border!

The best border in my collection is an Animate Dead that I got for cheap since its a white bordered version from unlimited but some dude tried to pass it off as an alpha/beta one by coloring in the white with sharpie marker. :V
