As someone who is studying to be an actress and voice actress rn, I find this absolutely terrifying, not just for myself but also for fellow aspiring/current industry workers as well.

This was a really good and important video to hear. Hollywood seems like such a shitty place, and as someone wanting to direct their own animated shows, I get worried about how I’ll even get there in the first place. Not to mention all of the creeps and bigots up there. Like what is it with Hollywood in particular being full of gross and predatory people? With the state of animation (and industry’s disrespect of it) and the over exploitation/micromanagement of animators and writers, I really hope things change. However, I totally agree with you that indie is the best way to go right now. I’m happy that you are able to do the things you love outside of all the gatekeepy and prejudiced film industry, and I hope I can get there someday too! I am optimistic for the future though. The fact that indie creations like Smiling Friends, Hazbin Hotel, and even the Backrooms have all been able to be recognized/picked up by bigger studios is amazing. Tbh, you are 100% right that big producers/government are scared of us as content creators and as generation Z because we overall are less willing to put up with their hypercapitalistic bullshit. Even if things are shitty now, I think that our generation will do great things and better society.

I kind of have the same problem. I thought that doing set design or production design for live action movies would be cool but now I'm like, maybe I don't want to go into the film industry. Since I'm still choosing, it's not to late to change career paths ¯\_༼ ಥ ‿ ಥ ༽_/¯

i've been thinking the same thing!!! ive been so deterred lately of wanting to go into the film industry for editing and storyboarding and stuff like that because I have no idea how to get to a place where I can be apart of things that isn't in hollywood or california or whatever. also just the pressure of having to be super talented and inventive and creative to make it i just don't think i'm creative enough or good enough to get a job that I love that isn't just sitting at home all day doing independent work for huge companies just to make the next paycheck. but hearing you say this encourages me a lot!!! there are so many ppl in our generation these days that can really do something incredible. let me know when you start directing your film!! i can be your editor fr!!! 😌💪

@@savannah6508 lol this seems like a good place for connections. Honestly, I really hope Generation Z just overthrows Hollywood and makes it better. It feels like we're going the same path but I'm just so sick with the pre-establishment of everything from the American healthcare system (I'm in the U.S.) to the education system. This is radical idea but I'm ready for a revolution (even tho those don't usually go well).

Yeah, growing up, I wanted to do acting (mostly voice acting), animating, and even music as a profession in the television industry. But as I've gotten older, I came to realize a bunch of the issues of the industry. I plan to do more indie and freelance work in the future (and I'm even working towards it) because of horror stories I've heard from people in the industry. Some people even being those I grew up seeing through TV and such. The entertainment industry as a whole is a mess.

I had just turned 20 when I got to work on a huge project for a big Hollywood production company at the premiere I got groped and harassed by one of the director's friend. Then when following up with the director on the project and asking if there was anything else in the works he tried to connect me with that creep from the premiere who he knew had been creepy AF with me. That's when I just decided not to work in Hollywood.

@@harriyanna @pancakebears @andiflores4638 just saw all your comments, thank you. It means a lot. Sometimes it's frustrating to share things like this and just get a "well that's the industry" I am happily still making movies just completely outside of Hollywood. I found it really encouraging recently being at a film festival where there were so many indie international films. Like Hollywood is not the end all be all for making movies. I hope that inspires someone if they feel sad about the way things are. Sending you all much love ♥

I’m half way through the video but your comments about To All The Boys I’ve Loved makes me think of HBO wanting Issa Rae to cast Lauren London instead of herself when the entire concept was about Issa. Not a biracial woman.
@harriyanna
@harriyanna Жыл бұрын
lets be honest i love lauren london but so many of her roles has to do with her desirability. people really enjoy looking at her that's why so many pictures of her are on people's moodboards from movies she's been in that they never watched a day in their lives. just bc issa looks nothing like her does not mean she isnt beautiful.

@@harriyanna exactly but Hollywood wants us to continue to desire nonblack over fully black because it secures their future and their children’s future.

@@harriyanna it starts at a young age from what I observed. We start idolizing and trying to include people who don’t look like us. Not realizing they will become our replacements. Also, the 90s already did us dirty and now we are trying to undo that damage.

Thank you so much for talking about this , as someone who aspires to be a screenwriter it's valuable to consider things like this can happen and be wary of how women and fem- presenting people will be treated in the film industry
