As a singer and vocal instructor, I get angry at people who are not honest with their students. As we age, our voices get deeper, that is a fact of life. I was a soprano and am now a mezzo, and I do not pretend to my students that I can still hit that Eb6 anymore. I can show them how to do it, but I am honest about the aging voice. There is no shame in it, unless you try to hide it.

Personally I believe most of KZbin cover songs are tampered. Guitarists use multiple camera angles, to hide multiple takes in their solos. (Tons of failed attempts are cut out, they may play hard passages 50 times and combine cleanest takes. When the camera angle switches completely, nobody can tell if it's from the same take or not). They may even overdub bad notes, that didn't ring cleanly. Vocalists do miming. Drum covers = quantized hits. Not necessarily all of the hits (leave some small mistakes in to mask it) but would be super easy to tighten it up. Nobody would notice. Or fixing a few hits here and there, in otherwise perfect take. The temptation would be high, to earn that KZbin $$$

Thanks for this. I saw a comment about him under one of your recent videos and had a look at one or two of his cover videos. It seemed to me that he was miming. It's a shame really, as with his 'live' stream, his voice sounded pretty good to me on the 'yeah' thing he actually sung live at the beginning. It had much more life to it than the pre-recorded vocal.

I tried Ken’s voice course (I bought for the entire year) because he seemed like he knew what he was talking about and the results sounded great. Within a month of following the course how Ken recommends and not rushing through it, my natural 3 octave vocal range, huge lung capacity, and ability to project diminished and my voice started to get damaged. I had a classically trained opera singer as my vocal coach in college years before using Ken’s lessons and I had an extremely knowledgeable UF music major grad as my vocal coach years after I took Ken’s lessons and they were phenomenal. I had to disregard everything Ken said and break all the bad habits I picked up because of him or else my singing voice would’ve been permanently damaged. Disclaimer: I used his teaching videos he sells on his website and this disclosure of my negative experience with his product is a review. I’m glad not everyone had my experience but please do your research before buying vocal lessons materials or booking time with a vocal coach.

The sad part is always that they are not honest. When you are a golf player, you practise all your life to hold your top performance. Otherwise, you will drop down in your rank. In a competition, you can not bring a copy of your best move and then tell your opponant you won the game because you once were a good player. In music, it seems widely accepted to bring old or manipulated performances and pretend to be the one doing it at this very moment. If that is what it means to do a live concert, then I could also listen to it at home. The music will sound the same.

Wow and Ken charges people to teach them to sing and he judges how other singers sing their songs. He seems to go after Rob Halford from Judas Priest alot, i think he's kind of jealous of Rob. He also goes on how he's a Christian, well being a Christian he shouldn't be lying about his vocal ability and saying he's all live when he's not. Voice teachers should not be lying to people , whether they are Christian or not lying is not a good look and gives him no right to judge anyone else's vocal abilities. If he can't do the high notes anymore then he should just say so. But since he has made a youtube career out of judging others he has to look perfect everytime, sad really

Rob would do vocal gymnastics around him all day and Ken could never come close. Rob is 72 yrs old and he is still killin it and is so humble, while Ken thinks he's the best thing since sliced bread and knows exactly what people need to do to keep their voices. Obviously not if he's voice tracking vocals on the high notes and pretending he's live, it's a sham and nobody should be going to that man for vocal advice. but honestly listen to a couple of Ken's videos on Rob you will see what i am saying, he's very judgy on others as well almost condescending towards them.

This is why I'll never understand people who give singers a hard time for not sounding as great as possible live. You have an official recorded version - and you have the live version. Enjoy both - stop wanting to hear live performances as good as a recording - they are supposed to be different!
@GeorgeGanesh4 ай бұрын
Here's the very serious problem I see: Ken specifically markets himself as a coach who can teach safe rock-style high belting, and yet clearly he can't do it safely, or HE WOULD JUST DO IT. Professional metal singers like Dio or Eric Adams managed to sing night-after-night well into their late 60s (72 and still trucking in Eric Adams' case), so it is entirely possible to do this safely. But Ken is actively and knowingly deceiving his students into damaging their voices by copying techniques that he MUST KNOW are unsustainable! AND I suspect that is why he lip syncs to his own recordings from 4-5+ years ago, to mask the irreparable damage he's already done to his own voice.
@wilsonbrownofficial28284 ай бұрын
Hi there , do you know any online vocal coaches who are genuinely good and on the level? I have been doing Ken’s vocal training for some time now, but now I’m a little concerned, having read your comment.
@GeorgeGanesh4 ай бұрын
@wilsonbrownofficial2828 Sadly, it is very hard to find a verifiably good vocal coach online these days. The safest option is to find someone in your local area, because in-person you can always trust that what you're hearing is real. Even better if they have been teaching for many years, proving they can sustain their voices! I have no doubt Ken was genuinely able to sing those notes when he was younger, it doesn't sound like he was using autotune in the clips Fil analyzed here. BUT, anybody who tries to sing like that will discover it won't work for a whole career.
@goreyfantod52134 ай бұрын
@@wilsonbrownofficial2828 I've watched content from a ton of vocal coaches. From an outsider's perspective, the few I've come across who: 1. Have demonstrated an extensive knowledge base derived from formal (often operatic), training - and - 2. Have demonstrated their personal skillset as singers ...are not that many. Off the top of my head,: - Elizabeth from The Charismatic Voice - literally a world-class, formally trained operatic soprano who reacts to genres she's not familiar with & seems to genuinely respect vocal skills that are different and less, "correct," than her training - The Fairy Voice Mother - I'm not certain about her educational background (I believe she has a Master's in voice, but not positive), but it's evident she has a lot of formal training & she actually sings live examples to demonstrate what she's explaining - Sam Johnson - Formally trained in musical theatre & performance, also sings to demonstrate occasionally - Tara Simon - mainly a Pop vocalist who's appeared on a well-known televised talent show - less technical in her explanations, but seems well-suited for beginners & intermediate-level aspiring vocalists There are several others I've watched who do seem to know what they're talking about, but the four I named (especially the first three), seem to have a firm grounding in human vocal anatomy along with a thorough understanding of classical technique & how to explain the two. Also, personality-wise, they're the most encouraging, kind-hearted & open-minded vocal coaches I've seen on YT. I've come across several who seem to know anatomy & healthy technique, but their personality seems better suited to a lecture hall than a KZbin video aimed at people with varying levels of skill & education. There also seems to be a glut of, "vocal coaches," who seem more interested in pushing paid lessons than providing actual analysis. Personally, I really appreciate vocal teachers/coaches who evaluate what they see & hear from singers, rather than just repeating the same do's & don'ts that opera maestros have been insisting on for centuries. It makes more sense to me to talk about technique & anatomy in light of healthy/unhealthy rather than proper/improper. It may just be me, but when a top-tier classically trained opera singer can say - it's not how I was taught, but it works for the song & doesn't seem unhealthy or damaging to the voice - that's my sweet spot for good instruction. Plus, it helps that Elizabeth & The Fairy Voice Mother, in particular, regularly demonstrate that they're still moved & impressed by all sorts of vocals, from Screamo to beat boxing, they don't look down on other singers because of biases around genre or level of formal training.
