On ScannerDanner Premium I will bring you right into my classroom at Rosedale Technical College. You will find page for page lectures taken right from my book as well as exclusive classroom type case studies. What is so special about these classroom case studies? I pull live problem vehicles directly into my classroom and we troubleshoot them in real time, using and applying the theory and testing procedures we learn during the classroom lectures. I watched a father/son pair fix up a 'first' car together for the son and couldn't help but think it gives the son ADDED appreciation of that first car. If there's a generic: "here, this is your car, treat it nice" is different than spending hours and hours making that car run. That investing labor into the first car yields an appreciation to what's required if the car is abused.

I love those old Celica you cannot kill them. I had a gen1 Celica 1977 GT. I saw the odometer roll over twice while I had it, when I sold it it must of had close to 340k miles . The 20R, 21R , 22R, 22RE are known to be able to get a lot of miles the 22R/22RE is known as the million mile car. 20R and later R Engine is some what influenced by the HEMI engine of Chrysler. The 20R and subsequent models featured important design changes relative to the earlier SOHC R-series engines. The head was changed from a reverse-flow to a cross-flow type with hemispherical combustion chambers and shorter valve rockers. The timing chain was strengthened. The lower block bearings were strengthened against wear, safeguarding oil pressure, and the stroke was lengthened. The changes increased torque substantially and shifted peak power and torque towards the lower speed range. The later R series engines did much to establish Toyota's reputation for reliability, which had previously been indifferent at best

Great little project car. Hopefully will see many many more miles on the road again! I have a puzzling question for any Scanner enthusiasts. I have a car that reads 60 ohms on the CAN lines at the DLC so no open circuit. Yet I read 3.2 volts on both CAN High and CAN LOW when connected to ground when the BUS is asleep (0 volts between can high and low). What could cause that?

my guess by 1:41 the tank is full of trash and plugging the pickup sock, after the short burst of high fuel flow. alternately, the fuel filter is doing the same thing. when they're full of debris the high flow stirs it up and plugs the sock/filter, then after sitting for a while it settles and has flow for a bit. rust, sugar, powder, etc. same outcome

@rodvan-zeller6360

@@ScannerDanner Thank you for the reply. Not the starter circuit, lambda reading on tail pipe while cranking on a crank no start condition, to get diagnosis direction. Fun educational student project, create different fault on good car, like disable fuel pump or ignition on a hot soak and look at tail pipe lambda reading while cranking, this exercise gives a template for diagnostic direction on problem cars.
