I noticed you said, "ever since I quit drugs and alcohol"-firstly, well done ! Secondly, I am watching this just finishing off my taper on subutex (an opiate substitute like methadone) and it is really helping me pull through. I am three years without booze now and the opiates are the final thing to stop. I love the outdoors so much and cannot wait to get back out there. All the best from the UK.

I love watching your videos (ASMR) and highly instructional. I have a Fishing tip for you all (especially Xander). When you're ready to fish with either live bait or with lures, it's always smart to wash your hands with Lake water, then; you need to rub your hands in any grass, dirt, mud, or seaweed you can find (just like you did with the dirt at the 21:10 mark in this video. When you're handling a lot of different things, it's important to realize that fish are all about Sight, Sound, and Scent. It is your scent on the lures that can easily dissuade the fish from being attracted. Great Video !!!

You have slowly became my favorite survivalist to watch. Don't worry about people complaining about small game hunting it's perfectly natural. you do you. Look forward to more videos. As a suggestion you should always carry a handline setup in your pack. If your pole breaks you always have a backup. It weighs basically nothing and doesn't take up any space bro.

I'm really glad to see you advancing into hunting content. It's definitely a crucial skill in the quest to become a well-rounded outdoors man. The appeal of traditional bow hunting over other forms of hunting to me is the fact that you need to become one with the land in order to find success. You're not just sitting in a tree shooting at animals 50-100 yards away, or blasting away into the air with a shotgun until you hit something. No disrespect to those forms of hunting, which still require great skill in their own right, but the ceiling for personal growth is so much higher with traditional forms of hunting.

Just some helpful tips for people watching. In a survival situation you want to conserve as many calories as possible. Wearing a backpack while fishing is useless calorie expenditure and increases your chances of getting injured which can easily be fatal when you’re alone. Another thing to be careful of is when you’re sleeping in caves or under rocks and you want a fire, you NEED to slowly heat the rock before you create a large fire. If you make your fire too fast the rocks can crack and kill you in your sleep! Finally. If you managed to get some of your socks wet (or any smaller clothing items) if you put the wet socks in your sleeping bag your body heat will dry them out overnight. A water bottle with warm water will also help keep you warm in a sleeping bag when it gets super cold!

That fuzzy little mushroom is a Hedgehog and they're actually quite yummy. I think the 1st ones you found were false chanterelles - you can tell that by them growing in singles or very small groupings and also when the ridges don't go down the majority of the stem. Glad you didn't eat them because you might have gotten sick! I appreciate your innovation and perseverance because that was a beautiful fish! Thanks for the content, Xander. It never disappoints!

@@CascadeBackcountry omg, you're right. Honestly I see both of those around here so often that I just avoid them because I have a really hard time being able to tell which is which. I just know the false ones often grow by themselves or in very small groupings and don't have the ridges all the way down the stipe. I had a mom and daughter who came into my ER who had eaten several of them and both ended up in ICU; mom for 2 nights, daughter just one.

Yeah definitely winter chanterelle - it's the mushroom I pick the most myself. And they're honestly hard to mistake for something else except other edible mushrooms. I've read about people mistaking it for deadly webcap (!) but I'm note sure how. Carelessness I guess. Also the false chanterelle is reminiscent of the regular chanterelle, but not winter chanterelle which has a distinctively different look.

Xander- When I see you have a new adventure to share I always wait for a time when I can really enjoy watching. This is one of your best, in my opinion. 50 hrs. is a long time to survive alone in the woods. But an amazingly short time to experience life's best lessons: Gratitude, Persistence, Ingenuity, Creativity, Acceptance, Awareness and more. So much to experience. I would be curious to know how many casts it took to land that one fish. If that doesn't illustrate persistence paying off, I don't know what would. Amazing adventure. Thanks for sharing!

I do have a question for you: When you're just laying on the ground under some giant rock for a sleeping arrangement, you mentioned checking for droppings as an indicator if an animal may be using the area as a home, but are you not worried about things like insects, arachnids, snakes? Are you not worried you're going to wake up infested with ants, termites, or spiders?

I enjoyed the little hurdles of the broken fishing pole, lost fish, wet shoe, etc. That’s reality and what happens on many camping trips. Great video, thanks.

Oh man by 7:30... after the wet gumboots, cracked rod, lost fish, lost arrow, the snapped rod and your dejected reaction - comedy gold! 🤣

Yo man More I watch your videos more I know about your personality. You are a good man. So respectful about the nature as you respect yourself. That’s the reason why I absolutely like ur videos. Have a good day Xander.

As a fisherman myself, it was great to see you land that brookie. That one you lost ice fishing with your brother when you tried to wash it in the hole... oh my! Anyhoo, another excellent video. Nicely done. Your efforts are appreciated.

A wonderful video! Not sure how I haven’t stumbled across your channel until now. I get out for an overnight in the woods as often as I can, nothing like it to de-stress. Greetings from the U.K.

Wow, that was an absolutely enormous brook trout. Not only huge, but a hook-jawed male in full regalia. Amazing catch!

Where I live there’s a small cave that can fit around 12 people laying down & it’s near a campground used by the boy scouts , I remember over 20 years ago me & some friends camped out in this thing for 2 nights one time in the winter , there was 8 or 9 of us , we made a nice fire in it & with all the rock around we all kept very warm in the thing because the rock kept the heat in . We used a big tarp to block off most of the opening but left a big gap at the top so smoke could get out . If SHTF tomorrow I know where I’m going .

These videos are like therapy for me, even the stressful bits are uplifting and positive. Come to Scotland sometime, it looks like our landscapes are similar. No bears though which is a plus!

I'm sure this has been said before, but...I just want to say how much it means to see guys like you showing mistakes in videos and helping other people learn. I'll make sure to check my poles on the way out next time :) Thanks for the videos.

What a challenge. I just discovered your channel so I don’t your your. back story. You did quickly mention drugs/alcohol. I am so happy to see another successful person who has recovered. I’m allergic to fish so I would be screwed trying this type of challenge. The rock shelter was cool. What a beautiful lake & place. I can only imagine that feeling of complete excitement after FINALLY catching that fish. Thank you for taking us along , I’m proud you were able to overcome your addiction & have found a new path on your life’s journey. ❤.

Hey bud, im really glad to see that u made it away from the darkside, im proud of u and i hope that u stay far away from all the addictive things that starve some people from their true happiness. Its not easy for some to find their way back and some never do. I do pray for as many people as possible to get away from the supressed life of addiction, and i truly hope the ones that dont make it wake up to a better life on the other side. Thanks for ur videos and honest good living u share with us. U are a good person.
