If I could give 20,000 thumbs up on this video, I would! This was so helpful. We currently stream our church services via camera and microphones connected to OBS but want to add AM transmission to our parking lot to add drive-in attendance thus requiring adding a sound board to our setup to manage the microphones and transmitter. Your demonstrating how to set the knobs and buttons, and including OBS in the demo gives us confidence we can pull this off. The only thing that could use a bit more discussion is at the end about avoiding the loop between OBS and the board when you use OBS as a sound source. Great stuff!

@@kettnercreative A further note of thanks. With the help of this video, we were able to successfully begin our drive-in services on October 11. We were able to accomplish everything we set out to do (stream the service via OBS and simulcast to the AM transmitter via Monitor Out). Tips for other OBS users: Once the Yamaha buttons are set as described toward the end of the video, we set the Yamaha as the the Monitoring Device in OBS Settings, and then the sound sources originating from the OBS laptop needed to be set to "Monitor and Output" in OBS's Advanced Audio Properties. The Monitor Out jacks provided the transmitter with the combined stereo mix from the Yamaha plus the sound sources originating from the laptop (USB Microphones, USB cameras, and audio/video media files).

I purchased mine 2-1/2 years ago, about the time you made this video. I don’t know why I missed this video, but you explained the VERY annoying problems that I was having. I’d say your’s is the best explanation, but it’s actually the ONLY useful one I’ve found, to solve the USB out volume out (along with another of your videos specifically about USB volume) The red button labeled “to mon” & “to st” I assumed that the “st” meant stereo, so naturally I thought “mon” meant MONO! One request, I would love to see a complete “for dummy’s” explanation about why decibels are labeled from negative numbers to positive, and other terminology that could be confusing. To me the word decibel refers to actual sound waves, obviously it has more meaning than just whether sound is loud enough to damage your ears. You taught me how to use the db settings, but I would really like to understand why. You used some other terminology that I didn’t understand, would love more info about those also. . THANK YOU!! for this and your other videos.

I’ve watched a lot of your Yamaha MG10XU videos and recently bought one plus a rode podmic. I followed instructions on how to set the gain (without having to buy a cloud lifter) and I’m still getting low level out puts. I have two quarter outs going into 9/10 and the other end quarter inch going into the Headphone Jack of my Komplete Audio Interface. The mic can be seen in the meters but not without speaking extremely loud. I’ve got the gain/level pinned to the maximum and the compression around 12 o clock. Slight Eq adjustments but nothing major. On the other hand when I plug in my condenser rode nt1 I don’t have these volume issues but as you’d expect- there’s a lot of background noise entering the equation. Love the Yamaha Love the Podmic But what else can I do to get a better volume out of it ? The goal is to sing to music while live streaming and use the compression, eq and a touch of reverb so the listener can enjoy. Any help at this point would be appreciated. I don’t want to return it if I can find a solution. I’m on Mac 🖥 😊

You did a great job of explaining what a mixer does and how to use it. After watching this tutorial and doing some further research I decided to buy a MG12XU due to the fact that I want the subgroup to create a separate mix for my headphones. One thing still bugs me though. On my setup I use the USB-IN channel to play back sound from my PC and listen to it on my headphones attached to the mixer. Since I found out via PFL that the level coming into the mixer via USB-IN is way too high, I consulted the manual and found the attenuation setting (i.e. clicking the PROGRAM button 5 times, setting the attenuation and clicking the PROGRAM button again). For me, values around -17db work well. Powering off the mixer and powering it on again however makes the mixer partially forget this setting though. The attenuation is not working (i.e. just as if it were set to 0db) but the value is still set to -17db. If I click PROGRAM 5 times again it shows -17db without actually applying this to the USB-IN. If I change it to -18db and then back to -17db it works as expected. This is quite annoying as I have to do it at least once per day and I was wondering if you have experienced something like that as well and maybe know how to make that setting permanent.

We have no one who knows streaming, A/V, etc., and I have volunteered to try to sort this out. Content is sooooo needed. Thank you for clarifying so much. One question: Is it possible to use the same computer to input (let's say music) as well as mix minus output (for say face time or conference calls) using the usb or fx output options at the same time? I assume this requires extra software. Probably too big of an ask for such a small mixer, but this thing is incredible and I wouldn't put it past it if it could. Keep up the good work!

I have watched alsmost all of your videos regarding the yamaha mixers. I have bought the Yamaha MG12XU. I bought couple of D+ class B MYTS cables in order to connect external devices for music. When i plug the one side to my mobile and the other two mono plugs to line 5/6 Left and Right i do hear some ennoying noise. I tried at first to plug the Left and Right to 5/6 line on the mixer so i can control the gain. I have it right now at 9 o'clock and still i can hear very low noise. If i push the gain to 12 o clock then you can hear that more. If you push the gain at the end then you can see the meter LEDs L1 - L2 goes up to -30 to -25. Then i tried to use line 9/10 on the mixer. Thing goes worse than before. Last but not least, i've tried to fully raise the volume on my mobile and decrease the gain on line 5/6 (back to 5/6 channel with gain control), to a bit less than 9 o'clock. Now it is more clear the sound but you can still hear that ennoying noise when the room is quite. How this can be solved? Really thanks for your time to read my question.

Thanks very much. I’m really enjoying these- perfect mix of ‘consolidating what I know’ and ‘I’m gonna need to watch that a few times. I’m a videographer who is branching into sound reinforcement and live-streaming, mostly for dialogue and presentations, and I’ve been helping a non for profit with their live-streams. [Their show is half dialogue, half live music with Indian percussion in a small untreated room. I’ve got 2 condensers running into a mg10xu (which they control- they control their own show), and I’ve run the line in to a Panasonic gh4 and it’s associated audio attachment, and the hdmi our feeds the computer.] I have questions related to the simplest way to livestream their live events. They move around to yoga studios, and often can’t get an Ethernet cable into their computer, so live-streaming via their phone into zoom seems the best, bearing in mind they need an easy and quick setup. They do not move from their positions at the front of the room, so I’m thinking of positioning a little MG06 mixer between them, running a lapel mic and sm58 from the mixer, and running a mono cable out to their small pa, which is in front of them. My question is, can I run the speaker from one of the xlr outs, while also using the 1/4 inch stereo outs (with a dual 1/4 to single 1/8 cable) to make a short run to the phone. I tried the headphone jack to the phone yesterday without much luck- could be me- and I’m heading to the music store to get the 1/4 to 1/8 cable now. I haven’t done live sound before, but I’m hoping these mixers can send signals out via all 4 balanced outs simultaneously. Whether panning becomes an issue with a single speaker I don’t know. Hopefully I can get a line in to the phone with the trs-trrs adapter for a successful livestream, as well as providing sound reinforcement to the room. Not sure if I’m dreaming, but I’m having a crack at it, and any advice you have on the topic would be much appreciated. Once again, thanks for these video, and have a good day. Cheers from Sydney, Andrew
@andrewp15134 жыл бұрын
Also, just noticed the mg06 can’t pan, so that makes it easier 😊
@kettnercreative4 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew, Yes, you can use both balanced 1/4” outputs while also using both XLR outputs. The trick will be wether or not you can set the output appropriately for each device. You may need a 20DB pad to reduce the output to mic level for your phone. There will likely be some compromise that you’ll have to make in terms of making the phone happy with the output and having it loud enough in the room since you’re sharing an output. It’s also worth noting that the 1/4” outputs are 4db louder than the XLR
@kettnercreative4 жыл бұрын
Another option would be to run the USB into your phone using an Apple Camera Adapter
@andrewp15134 жыл бұрын
Thank so much. I might have one of those camera adapters around. I was expecting there to be some level issues. I was hoping that I could set the levels for the camera and then compensate for the room volume with the volume knob on the PA. Luckily, they don’t need too much volume from the PA, just a little reinforcement. I asked the guy at the music shop about whether the 1/4 main outs would be too hot, but he just pointed to the headphone jack next to them and said it was the same, though I was skeptical. Would the headphone out of the mixer give better levels for the phone, as well as the ability to adjust with the headphone volume knob, do you think?
