You should only use a metal container for your ashes, many a housefire has started because of ashes in a bag, all it takes is a little ash that hasnt gone out completely

My husband….at the time….sucked the ashes out of our fireplace…with our central built in vacuum… they were 2 day old ashes. It started the holding canister in the garage on fire. We got everything put out. Watching you put the ashes in a plastic bag was a trigger… lol… I see others agree. It’s nice to see you doing heating duty… and enjoying it. :)

“Bar Keepers Friend” might be your best friend when removing stains from your fabulous porcelain! Also, all those wonderful covered platters would be a lovely way to serve breakfast in bed and keep things warm! Little platters for singles, larger platters for couples... so many possibilities! Love the Waterford stemware! It will always make a gorgeous table! Acquiring an amazing butler’s pantry filled with beautiful porcelain, crystal, cutlery and all the bits and bobs needed to create fabulous tablescapes is a dream come true! While establishing a new storage system it might be a good time to set up a spreadsheet with all the pertinent pieces, color schemes, etc. for ease in creating future tablescapes for every conceivable occasion! Have glorious fun! 🥰🥰🥰

The 15 glasses would be perfect for serving a 'trou normand' (norman hole) : in the middle of a big lunch you can serve a ball of sorbet (sherbet) with alcohol, and it helps you digest the first half of the lunch before you serve the other half :-D It can be a 'colonel' (lemon sorbet and vodka) or apple sorbet with calvados, or anything you fancy! It could also be used for fruits in alcohol, like cherries in syrup, served at the very end of the lunch. I love these glasses, they are beautiful!

I have my great-grandmother's antique dishes and when researching replacements found that antique porcelain and cream ware can give lead poisoning. I'm going to get them tested since we've been using them for daily use and not just special occasions. There are kits at the hardware store. Just mentioning because there are many collectors and porcelain enthusiasts that watch the show. Also mentioning in case you didn't know there might be a risk with frequent use. What stunning sets you have! I love seeing a beautifully set table and dislike modern, white plain plates. As always, the transformation of the Chateau and cheerful presentation is very entertaining. Much thanks!

I love this pattern I have a few pieces myself .Good Eye! The cracked dishes can be repaired with white glue and used for display. Here is a hint from a professional antique seller.. me. To remove stains from any porcelain china purchase volume 40 hair toner. Annalis (sp? sorry ) can help you purchase it in quantity. I purchase it by the gallon at the beauty supply. Put the piece to be cleaned in a non reactive pan like plastic dish basin. pour the toner over covering the piece. Let it sit days if necessary. It will pull the discoloration out of the china. Harder stains may need a reapply. I have been doing this for 25 years and it works. So never pass up a discolored piece of china. I love your find and so jealous!!! Love from Florida US xo

Stephanie, watching your videos on china-ware, fabrics and art work, has given me a completely fresh appreciation for these things, not just as useful things, but as intensely gorgeous products of other people's minds - such beauty, formed into something useful, AND something for the heart: to lighten the spirit, and bring our humdrum lives into the realms of light and beauty, even fluidity and open-mindedness. Your, and Philip's sheer delight in this world of beauty, has kindled in me such an appreciation and new respect for the importance of beauty to keep the soul healthy.

This is exciting to see you’re getting a good heating system. It was fun to see all the blue and white ceramics. I no longer use bleach to whiten discolored pottery. I’ve found that 40 volume hydrogen peroxide in an enamel broiler on low heat helps the discoloration to come out much better. Sometimes bleach will cause the glaze to flake in time and cause pits in the pottery. Congratulations on the lake progress and the food looks sooo delishious!

Best video ever: 1) Reality of waking up in the freezing cold, log burners & tea 2) uninstalling recent installation to upgrade the heating 3) a mountain of matching porcelain & enough glassware to rival Downton 4) maps /schematics for a pond big enough for a regatta. Such GOOD news about the lake. Glad the frogs will still have a home - we had them in America, and every Spring the chorus was deafening. I can't see that MASSIVE collection of china exactly, I'm thinking it may not all be the same pattern, but it certainly look like it works together beautifully. I envision a large family get-together when the chateau is done, a sort of house-warming party, with tables set up outside and using all of this beautiful china, looking kind of like a Diner en Blanc gathering. Crystal stemware, silver candelabra, collect some old glass cloches and fill them with strings of battery-operated fairy lights. And then we will want to see video!!!

I'm so excited for you to be getting closer to getting your beautiful lake back! It's going to be so nice! It's so nice to see all the activity. I wish you posted more a week, I get so spoiled during advent. 🦋

I don't think it's over kill bc you have a lot of dinner parties. And although I think mix and match is just adorable, now you have enough for a whole matching dinner with enough for everyone. I mean if you weren't in the business of what you are maybe it would be too much, but you have a chateau. You run and bnb in a chateau. So no, I think it's a good investment. Honestly Philip is truly your soul mate. And has added so much to lalande!!!!

My dad grew up in a house (soon after WWII in France) that was originally a storage building. There was no heat at all in his bedroom!! Hot water bottle, duvets and cat at his feet. He too remembers jumping out of bed and throwing on his clothes as fast as possible so that he could run down the exterior stairs to the warm kitchen. He still doesn’t take central heating for granted.😊

i do think it is such a pain to maintain wood heat... to have to go out in cold and get it if one didnt forethink to bring it around. then brave the cold to light it... esp if dressed to lightly,.then to cold kitchen to start the day. it paid to lay out clothes the night before to put on in the morning.

I'm continually amazed at the amount of work you all do. I wish I had half the energy you, Philip and Amaury and the gang have along with all the skills. I love everything about this video -- beautiful porcelain, sparkling crystal, a soon-to-be lake and heating! Speaking of crystal, I'm on Team Philip for the Sherry glasses. Every magnificent chateau MUST have it's Sherry and the proper glasses from which to imbibe.

Those large bowls are officially serving bowls for side dishes like vegetables. mashed potatoes, etc... And serve Sherry with desert in those cute little glasses. There are a lot of desert drinks you could use those glasses for. How fun!!

I live in Canada and can’t imagine living with only a space heater. Excited for you to have radiators!!! I loved the dishes and glasses. I can imagine both cocktails in the 15 glasses as well as dessert. I have similar dishes and have made individual tiramisu and chocolate mousse. I laughed so hard at your back and forth as to who bought what. Been there with my husband- me china and crystal- he racing bikes and board games. So funny!!! I’m on Philips side. He has inspired me to wear some brooches I inherited and definitely for Sherry! Yum. Todays post was so much fun. Thank you!

whooo weee, what a haul of stuff you unloaded. Congratulations...that must really feel great. The new dishes and decanters, etc...are looking very grand and will be lovely for your big dinners with guests. It's really nice to see Kim and Sabina pop back in at LaLand in the last couple episodes! Kim is always lovely and I always liked Sabina! So happy for the good news about the lake (fingers crossed) and wetlands!

Does anyone know what happened to the Xmas light that Aumary put up in the courtyard? I don't think I saw them lit at Xmas.
