Thanks for the update, Derek! I'm headed over to Amazon to get the 3rd edition right now! 😉👍 --QM

Love to see you talk about the advantages of side tie-outs, as well as how best to deploy them.
@theultimatehangАй бұрын
Are you referring specifically to side tie-outs on a hammock?
@joelhooper8916Ай бұрын
@@theultimatehang yes, the tie outs on the left and right head and foot sides.
@theultimatehangАй бұрын
@ for jungle hammocks, I like having pullouts on the head side to keep the netting off my face. I don’t use pull outs for open hammocks and I don’t find much use for pull outs on the foot side. If using a tarp I’ll just clip the hammock tie out to the tarp tie out.

I wished Barnes and Nobl eof even a Hammock manufacture would sell these books. I believe I bought version that way years ago. I just don't care to purchase anything from Amazon. Looks like an inetersting book.

Digital or print? B&N should be able to get my print book if you request it. Digital is a different matter.

Speak it brother! Wow I was glad to see a new post from you, I clicked so fast I almost spilled my drink. Seriously Derek please and thankyou and do keep dropping your Knowlegeand experiences on us. I love your book and you need to know how much added joy hammocking has brought into our lives. :)

I have both editions and am looking forward to #3. I like to use them as a reference. By telling anyone asking questions to get a book before getting the Hammock so they can make an educational choice.

A long time ago I got your smaller book ( for some reading ) and learned a few things from it. Several years ago I got the bigger book (I'm a gluten for punishment ) and learned even more. One would think in my 65 plus years of hammock camping I would of know those things but I didn't. It appears even an old dog can learn new tricks'. I like to recommend your books to anyone asking about Hammock camping since they are a great reference material. Now a video , I subscribed but will keep the books. lol.

Thanks man! The new third edition has a smaller form factor, so hopefully not as intimidating, but still has the quality content from the 2nd edition.

Good to see you again Derek! I still use the Becket hitch I learned from you.

As a scouter and hammock influencer, I hope you can help persuade Philmont Scout Ranch to abandon their prohibition of hammocks. Major bummer.
@theultimatehangАй бұрын
OH man, that would be a miracle, right? I think the challenge is infrastructure. With so many treks going through, it would wreak havoc on the trees. They would need to install permanent stands (a good idea, actually, in lots of ways). Sounds like a great Eagle project proposal? Have anyone on the path?

@theultimatehangАй бұрын
Gosh, thanks. Yes, I hope to keep it updated. This edition, sadly, saw a lot of removal -- lots of vendors out of business, some acquired by others, etc. The market is maturing for sure. I keep my eye out for innovations!

Can't wait for it! Can I get you to sign it at HangCon?
@theultimatehangАй бұрын
Absolutely! I'll be in Florida with a box of books if you want to wait longer :) haha! Don't tell anyone, but if you buy them in person at HangCon, it will be cheaper than from Amazon.

The Haven XL has been greatly improved for 2024 with double zippers, a lounge strap and a newly designed air pad that resolves the dreaded taco issue and raises the comfort on a new level (even beats the Thermarest Topo Luxe, I own both pads). The Safari shall also receive a new pad next month, its already listed on the website but not available yet. Given all these recent developments and the close proximity to Haven it would be interesting to see you doing a follow up video. Your book is rightly considered the bible of hammock camping and your opinion highly respected in the hammock community.

What about with webbing as you would find in the amok or opeongo tents

Add a small piece of neoprene foam and cut a slit in the middle and slide it onto the webbing.

How hard is it to zip up the bug net? quite a few REI reviews complain about it.
@WeShootBack17764 ай бұрын
I don't have any issues with mine and I've used my skylite for a year now , you just have to use common sense and not rush or force the zipper it's easy if you grab the material with one hand and than use the other to zip it. Eno sells a tube net too if you rather ykk zippers

Thanks for this, I bought a second hand henessy hammock that was modified with continuous loops. After some research I decided to get whoopie slings for suspension, then thought I may have made a mistake because people complain about how much distance you need from trees. This works great as a back up if I can't find trees speaced far enough apart. Just use my tree huggers directly on the hammocks continuous loop. Its so simple it's genius.
