Oh man I am so stoked you are back with a video. Killer pickups as always. You just can't go wrong with any Jackie McLean albums. He's one of those jazz musicians who was not afraid to explore different directions in jazz and played with a bunch of different people and so many of his albums are very different but also are just so good! His mastery just shines immediately once you put them on so I cannot recommend him enough. And I definitely need to add Keep Your Soul Together to my collection now. IDK why no one talks about that record more but it's really smooth and beautiful. Thanks for showing Trent. Good luck in all your future eBay auctions and hope to see you back on here with more grails soon. Thanks for the video as always.

Hey man, totally agree about Jackie. Pretty much anything he’s done is fantastic from Prestige, Blue Note to Inner City. They’re all great! Keep your soul together is a fantastic album though!! It’s so good. Like I said that’s the kind of fusion that I really like. Some subtle funk infused jazz is perfect with me, and anything with an electric piano is something I’m gonna listen to. Thanks so much dude! Wishing you luck with future auctions and purchases as well!

But ok good to know about your Whistle Stop too. I just wasn’t a fan of the mixing at all and didn’t think it sounded like Blue Note. Aloha Trent, Happy New Year! Great review of record albums you've gotten in 2023. It's so great when you see that record album you've been wanting & finally pull the trigger on it. Your girlfriend scored a great one for you. Herbie Mann - Push Push , I remember in high school in the early 1970's, I was into Rock music, & a friend purchased this record album because Duane Allman was on it. So this might have been one of a couple that opened my ears to this type of music, & of course my personal favorite was Joe Farrell "Upon This Rock" with Joe Beck on guitar when I was a senior in high school. That opened the door to search out, Monk, Trane, Miles... I remember buying a copy of sidewinder in the cutout bin at Woolworth's for $ 1.99 ....lol. Anyway Trent, great seeing a video on KZbin of your Scores. Looking forward to watching your next video. Mahalo Ed

Hey Ed! Good to hear from you, man! I hope you had a great holiday season and happy new year! That feeling of pulling out an album you’re really after is the best though. That initial shock and then the reality setting in that you found it is almost addicting! Haha. But she’s got a good eye! She remembered the cover and she knows I like promos so she thought it’d be one I’m interested in, and she was right! Love those rare promos of otherwise common albums. And it’s a great album to boot! The cover’s just hilarious. Joe Farrell is fantastic though. His CTI albums are very underrated and I love his work with Elvin Jones in the late 60’s for Blue Note too! Hope you’re doin’ good, Ed! Take care!

Aloha Trent, Great trades & purchases. Wow ! Trent , you really scored on those White Label Promo's. I too enjoy having White Label Promo's I started collecting them around 1972 when I was in High school. Their was a book shop that sold record albums on consignment & every week someone would be selling new releases that were promos & sold them cheap from .50 cents & up & these were never played, years latter I found out who he was, a reviewer for a local weekly free magazine. Also when I worked in a record shop in 1977 I scored alot of record albums cuz they were given free to all the employees promotional one that is. didn't realized at that time that some of these were the first Pressing. I kept a few from that era, but most are long gone or worn-out. I sure missed those days of free record albums & free concert tickets. Thanks again Trent for sharing your scores. Looking forward to watching more of your posts. Mahalo Ed

Never recalled seeing a white label of that on Discogs either. Thanks for sharing your finds & purchases on line. Looking forward to watching your next video. Mahalo Ed

We all need some funk in our lives, Trent -- and I ordered "Party Down" from a Discogs seller just yesterday! Coincidence or conspiracy?!? (Mine isn't sealed, though.) I also appreciated Mr. Bowie's cameo behind Chico Freeman. I sometimes go many months on end listening to nothing but American jazz from the 1950s to early 1970s, to the point that I almost forget that anything else exists: Blue Note, Riverside, Prestige, Verve, Contemporary, Pacific Jazz, Atlantic, Impulse, Pablo, Columbia/Epic/Okeh... (I made t-shirts with my favorite labels on them.) Obviously, you can't go wrong with Bobby Hutcherson, Lee Morgan, Curtis Fuller... and there's nothing inherently wrong with Liberty pressings, depending on where and when they were pressed and what their sources were. LondonJazzCollector has a useful general guide here: shrtm.nu/ku9 Since you're in Seattle (as am I), I assume you've been to record shops in Fremont (and Ballard). Daybreak Records is an old favorite of mine (though I haven't visited in a couple years) and Jive Time keeps its "clearance" overstock in its Annex at the Fremont Antique Mall across the street, where you can sometimes find good deals if you have the patience to wade through the bins...

Congrats on an absolutely killer stack, Trent. What a feeling it must have been to pull that Helen Merrill at an antique store out of a random box! One in a million odds I guess. Huge congrats on that one and the Larry Young. Those are just such amazing albums and very very tough to find these days. I have to agree with you that Maiden Voyage is one of HH's best albums. I go back and forth between that one, Inventions and Dimensions, and Empyrean Isles. Those 3 are the trifecta of very well rounded albums IMO and his playing on them is phenomenal. I do think you need to add some more Art Blakey in your collection if it is a little thin on his material. He not only has mentored some of the top jazz talent of that era but also has put out some of the top jazz albums IMHO. Freedom Rider for example, is not talked about a ton but his drumming on that record will blow your socks off if you have not heard that one. I always recommend it to everyone hahaha. Never heard of Little Willie John sadly but what a fantastic album that one is! Amazing find for $10! I don't know how you do it. Thanks for the video my man and much continued luck in antique store boxes! Cheers.

Thank you so much, man! Pulling that Helen Merrill was one of the highlights of digging this year for me. It was so surreal and exhilarating. And you know the pain I went through to find that Larry Young haha, so I’m just so happy to have another copy in the collection again. I’ve been really loving listening to it lately. I agree with you though and think those 3 albums are the core of Herbie and really showcase his skills as a musician and a songwriter. I know I need more Art Blakey though haha. I’m after Freedom Rider and then a nice early copy of Moanin’. I’ve been holding out on Moanin’ just because I want a nice early one. But I’m happy you dig the Little Willie John! He’s definitely more in the obscure r&b/soul group, but it’s a very good album! The later pressings are a little easier to find, but that original can be tough. Especially in decently playable condition. As always, man, cheers! And can’t wait to see you up here soon!
