Told my friend to make a back pack welder like 2 years ago. He didn’t. Now build both of them into the unit for tandem welding.

Isn’t that a bit silly? Sure the wire makes not portable. At that point why would you carry 30lbs when it could be on a cart

Super Sweet! Maybe a stick welder would be a bit better for stuff like this... but ... Super Sweet!!

You don't really need that extension cord thingamabobber. I just tie the ends of my cords in a simple knot before plugging them together so they can't come unplugged.

My favorite part was when he said "It's welding time!" and then he welded everything in the workshop and his house, truly a welding of all time.

Patent your idea! Place the wire roll at the bottom instead of the top which will take a lot of the strain off your back. Build a collapsible frame so you can brace the back pack to stand up when you aren't wearing it! Will help immensely when you go to strap the welder to your back. Put the power switch on the same chassis as your control pots, which by the way SHOULD HAVE A BAR IN FRONT OF THE KNOBS TO PREVENT BREAKING THE SHAFTS! Move the whole assy away from your back to allow air to circulate. Speaking of air circulation place a screen in front of the fan to keep stuff from getting sucked into the innards! If you feeling particularly squirrely, source portable Li inverter battery to remote power your welder so you won't have to be tied to an outlet. Modify a dolly to carry the welder, gas tanks supplies and maybe the portable Li inverter should you go in that direction.

Only 2 years ago, why did't you just use windows 10 pro and not partition the drive and use WSL for windows windows sub layer for linux since you're able to run Linux inside windows. That's how my CNC plasma table is setup it uses a windows computer and controls a single board computer with linux on it but wsl you can run many distros in winders

If this is running on 110V you could strap some 8-10-ish 18V lithium packs in series and make it completely cordless.

Esab teamed up with DeWalt and made a flex volt powered tig welder/stick welder. It Uses 4 flex volt batteries. I thought that’s what you were going to do is make a battery powered welder truly is portable and self powered

Ha-ha, I love that vibe “I have an idea, but not so many ways to use it…still doing it!”. Maybe adding RCBO to the pack would be a wise idea, in case a welder will suddenly take a break from life while it’s on you.

Awesome idea. I wonder if you can fit some type of auto height leg for a support brace. Like a pole from a tripod or something where it can slide up but not down. push a button and it drops down from the welder and hits the ground taking most of the load of your back. Use it as a built in stool like the doctors use for surgery. 🤣 Cheers 🍻

You buy something and immediately take it apart - that isn't a problem that's just innate engineering curiosity and this habit has probably saved my life on two occasions... once when I purchased a new Benchtop Power Supply on eBay only to discover that if I'd plugged it in, the entire metal body would have been live (and here in the UK, that's 220v) and once when I purchased a small, jobsite Table Saw from Amazon and noted that half the bolts holding the damned thing together were loose. Great video by the way and the end result was awesome !
