Love the video and the whole blog series! We’re flying into Taiwan with our bikes tomorrow. How easy was it to find wild camping spots? Did you use a map/app to find them or just happen upon them?

What tire size did you use when you went cycle touring? Would you go bigger or was it enough?

I heard about the B17 from the book “It’s All About The Bike”. Started looking for a good deal on a used one soon after (It’s just my way to always try to find a “good used one” as opposed to buying new every time). A few weeks ago there was a really big bike swap in my city and I went on a mission to find my B17. I found really nice used one for $50 from a nice older gentleman and went home really happy. A week later I found out that older gent was none other than long distance record holder “Marathon Lon” Lon Haldeman! Now I’m incredibly curious to know if my saddle was on his bike during one of his legendary cross country tours. In every photo of Lon he’s got a B17 on his bike.

Great advice! And well presented too - enough examples yet the video moved along nicely. One mistake though: the worst time of day for traffic accidents is actually late afternoon, early evening. Here’s what ChatGPT said.: The time of day with the highest likelihood of traffic accidents tends to be in the **late afternoon and early evening**, typically between **4:00 PM and 6:00 PM**. This period coincides with several factors that increase the risk of accidents: 1. **Rush Hour**: Many people are driving home from work or running errands, leading to more congestion and potentially aggressive driving behaviors. 2. **Fatigue**: Drivers may be tired after a long day, which can affect their reaction times, focus, and decision-making. 3. **Low Sun**: The sun can be a hazard during the late afternoon, especially if you're driving toward it, impairing visibility and making it harder to see other vehicles, road signs, or pedestrians. 4. **Increased Traffic Volume**: With more cars on the road, the chances of accidents increase due to the higher number of interactions between vehicles. In general, late afternoon/early evening is a peak time for both the volume of traffic and the factors that can contribute to accidents. However, other times of day, like late at night (when impaired driving is more common) or early morning (due to fatigue), can also be high-risk periods for different reasons. Of course most cycle tourists aren’t in places where rush our is a worry but the sun’s angle is a concern.

I was hesitant about getting a quadlock because I’d have to get both the case and the mount and that was going to be something like 60 or 70 bucks. So, I bought a rubber phone holder from Target for $4, and on the first ride, the gravel road was a little bumpy, and the glass back to my $1000 iphone shattered. Why the heck do they have glass on the back anyways??? Now I have a quadlock.

After watching your video I finally visited San Clemente on 12/21/24. Let's start w/cons: I live in Los Angeles ( 81 miles) #1) The internet gives out 3 addresses, all wrong. Any new visitor I suggest use 624 Avenida Victoria address( pizza place across from the pier) #2) Lots of places are hilly( Not still but not a comfortable ride. #3) on the bike path, the city really needed to pour some asphalt on the bike lane( mostly dirt roads) The pro: #1) it is beautiful( picture esp). The view of the pier from an elevated area. #2) strongly enough, I wanted to go back maybe during a summer time

Bobs single wheel was the best. Two wheels weighted down get jumpy around corners. Use the pedal method to stand it up or jackknife the trailer and bike to support each other. And get that flag higher up so drivers can see it. It should be all he way back on the outside corner. With the length you don’t want a car to not see it and end up driving up to your seat

I've just changed jobs and as a consequence will be commuting a 10-mile round trip by bicycle. I'm currently in the process of putting together a bike specifically for that purpose. Prior to this, I would be lucky if I cycled 200 miles in a YEAR. To date, I've not been much of a cyclist. My question is this: Is it worth persevering with a stock saddle for a bit until I physically 'toughen up' and change shape (I have somewhat soft rump and cycle with a bib) or is it worth getting a Brooks right from the get-go and let my (untrained and a bit flabby) bum and saddle form together? Also, would you ride without a bib right from the start? Would that reduce break-in time? Thoughts much appreciated, thanks!

i think only advantage of clipless pedals is for sprinting or when your standing up… i use both roadbike clipless pedals and mountain bike pedals… but i could not pedal bigger power longer and my knees starts to hurt. I did some research and try flat pedals then boom..i do not have knee problems anymore and i can sustain a bigger power longer and I was suprised that i can pedal more power than before. whata difference. I dont do racing and not sprinting so flat pedals are just fine.

Thanks for the review! I was looking at Ortlieb, but couldn't swallow the cost for the frequency I would use it. I do have a pair of Ortlieb panniers on my other bike which I absolutely love however.

I searched for videos on the nomad. I’ve used the kid trailers for years because my Bob trailer was stolen. I got rid of the kid trailers to a pet trailer it was bigger but higher this was good to haul bike frames to full bikes and a lot of tools for cleaning up trailer. Today I still have that pet one. But from two wheel trailer. I use my Bob trailers. I have two one regular one with the shock. .and I have the big fat tire one. I noticed on trails. Bob trailer works the two wheel ones are tricky. It I use bike trailers for shopping I had a full bikes and on the reg Bob trailer. Thanks for the video. Now I’ll be thinking on the burley nomad

Think you might have convinced me. Comfort has to be paramount. I've been having some issues with my left foot recently and I think being clipped into a stiff SPD shoe for for 9 months might not do me any favours!

I'm a backpacker who evolved to ultralight backpacking. I weigh my gear down to the gram. Now, as an older (69) adventurer I LOVE bikepacking for two main reasons, I get the gear I need to the campsite and then explore on my e-bike. The point of this post is to suggest you do whatever you need to do to continue exploring the great outdoors....

I only ride flats, even on my carbon road bike. I cycle alone. When I run into cyclists I usually only get dropped by real hardcore racing people so I don't feel the pedals would make any difference. I constantly get top 5% on strava segments, sometimes top 2%, so it tells me even on performance I'm not losing much.

I drovre my proposed route in my truck and took pictures of how the bike paths and side walks would work for my future journey, from cystal drive at us41 south fort Myers fl. To Koreshan state park in Estero fl. Only a couple of spots where there were No bike lanes , but there were side walks to use. 6 miles was on the John Yarborough bike trail which is on google maps. The trail crosses over the 10 mile canel back and forth a few times with nice bridges you cant fall off..🙂 If it wasn't for my ebike i would never be able to complete my mission to the camp grounds at Koreshan state park, with only one real leg i still can pedal and the other just follows along ,lol.😊 I feel like a little kid at Christmas everytime i go off on an adventure.lol😊😊😊😊😊😊 per the American disability act this is my OPDMD, OTHER POWER DRIVEN MOBILITY DEVICE, which im allowed to go anywhere the public is allowed, with proof of disability on my person. I need not to explain what my medical disability is to anyone, and no public official is allowed to question my disability, providing i show my llegal government disability ID. Any private land open to the public, any government land open to the public, regardless of state and local laws. The ADA overrides any state or local jurisdiction its about time the disabled can go where everyone else goes walking, wheelchairing, Segwaying, triking and yes E bikes or scooters. I have pictures of bike paths at every intersection available some 175 pictures showing the safest route if could only figure out how to up load them. Lol have fun and be safe😊😊😊😊😊
