Nice video. Would you do anything differently if you did it again? I have a 05 4x4 Yukon 5.3L. 233,000 miles. Looking to get a used cheap broken 4L60/65/70 to rebuild with my teen as a DIY learning project. To have ready. I found a used one for $60, with nothing but Reverse working. Thanks!

I’m just curious to why you don’t take the torque converter bolts off before you drop the transmission?
@Ajunkman2 ай бұрын
To be safer and lessen the risk of breaking my hand or arm. Been doing this for 14 years with no major accidents EVER. Because I don’t have a jack at the junkyard (no jacks allowed) and have to let them slam/free fall and when you leave the torque converter inside it adds more weight and depending on the angle the truck is set at as soon as you remove the last bolt from the bell housing it can fall straight down giving you a split second of reaction time to either move or injure yourself. And because it’s more probable to crack the bell housing with the added weight I’ve cracked 2 bell housings letting them free fall with the torque converter left inside. Simply, experience.

torque converter needs to be unbolted before removing the transmission if you are trying to save the front seal and bushing.
@Ajunkman3 ай бұрын
False. Last 500 transmissions I’ve pulled front seal bushing have never been harmed. Stop spreading fake info it’s not good for the industry. Or make videos explaining why and tag me later. It’s actually safer to remove the way I do it I’ve broke bell housings letting them slam on the floor before with torque converter inside. Go make some videos and teach me.
@johnrogers28493 ай бұрын
@@Ajunkman You are honestly telling me you believe that is the proper way to remove a transmission?
@johnrogers28493 ай бұрын
Oh and not a junkyard transmission. Spend some time in a professional shop working on automobiles and you will never see a transmission pulled with the torque converter still bolted to the flywheel unless the motor can not be rotated to get it out.
