Wouldn't it help by adding some weight on top of the shelter, like tree boughs? I'm thinking that the weight would seal those spots wherever the drafts are getting in.

man, uve been doing this for 3 days. U keep telling us "it works, its survival!", but it clearly doesnt work - u r cold, miserable, covered in dust and wake up all the time. With how much time u spent on this u couldve just built a bigger, more solid shelter and star a fire inside to be warm.

one thing he forgot to say...have you ever got up close to a herd of cows in winter...those beasts are as warm as furnaces...turning grass into heat, so snuggle up to a cow or make a cow sandwich...if you haven't got a cow or two, make use of all that grass and once you/ve tunnelled in, just munch, munch all night on the grass... munch, munch, you wont even notice you/re cold.

Remember that no haystack survival shelter will ever get warm enough “. So, your only hope in staying warm would be to set the hay on fire and your guaranteed to stay very warm

I take the short council tool Hudson Bay style, easy to fit in a bag and not a long handle getting hung up on the canoe if attached to the outside of a pack.

If in rain with lots of mosquitos in a non snowing environment use a mosquito head net while in the bag.

to avoid set, its better for a bow to bend more towards the tips than near the handle. a small bit of set near the handle will cause a lot more set than it will if the set happens near the tips. But pyramid bows are designed to counteract that problem by having a lot of width near the handles. Also, with hickory, running a heatgun slowly along the belly while its loosely strung the wrong way and pulled a few inches(into reflex) can help a lot. it will make the bow take less set and increase a few pounds in weight. But its really easy to scorch the wood if you are hasty. I think the tradeoff is worth it since you get a bow that has a slight reflex or no set at the very least.

Are all wooods the same? Will I find what you don’t in any woods?
@SurvivalSchoolHouse
@SurvivalSchoolHouse 11 күн бұрын
No, it’s in pine trees and solidifies in certain areas like the branch bases and roots. I don’t know of any deciduous tree saps that will burn, so walk around the woods and look for pine trees or kick stumps and see if it smells like turpentine or pine sol cleaner. Good question

Same here, in florida. It makes sense that its called pitch wood now that I think about it, because when Im out camping my dad would say "scrape some of the pitch of that fatlighter and get the fire goin will ya?" > great memories, miss him

@@chronicmidnightrebels2623 I'm from Florida too, so that makes sense. Though, I don't remember him calling it pitch. Because of that I keep a jar of Fatlighter for fires.

I’m wondering if some heavier sticks on top would have compressed the nest and made it more wind proof, also pushing the denser grass closer to you.
