This is a great video but I really wish he would link (or at least just list) his sources in the description. Especially because he sometimes uses quotes/headlines with the rest of the page cropped out. For example, it would be nice to know what date that Guardian article was published without having to go track it down myself to find out, and to easily read in full the articles included in the video. This is an excellent and extremely interesting video, the subject matter is presented so well that it’s making me want to know more! Fads covers a lot of important issues, and conveniently linked sources can be the difference between someone diving deeper into the topic to learn more, or not. I apologize if this just comes off as me being lazy and not wanting to search for the full pieces, I guess it kind of is, but I also firmly believe that listing sources is an important thing for any creator to do, particularly when discussing a nuanced topic such as this.

"People have a mental block where causing a death in a legal manner is seen as not being as bad causing a death in an illegal manner" This is a crucial point. We didn't abolish slavery because it was illegal. We made it illegal. We didn't give woman the right to vote because the law said so, we made it a basic right. We should do the same with the health insurance system.

Not UnitedHealthcare, but another healthcare provider: Holy shit, I was literally just contacted earlier today by a company stated to be under my main healthcare provider and wanted me to schedule an "at home" (virtual) appointment with A doctor, not my PCP, and would give me a $50 VISA gift card to do so. Some details omitted, but that phonecall was the first time that I had ever heard such a service. I accepted and scheduled an apointment mostly because I need the $50, but I'm going to be extra careful now with what I say to them.

CEOs, especially of big pharma and big tech, aren't people. They're traitors to humanity. Take from that what you will alongside the phrase "it goes without saying but you probably shouldn't go around shooting people." You DEFINITELY shouldn't go around shooting PEOPLE. You Americans have been making the rest of us want to blow our brains out with your second amendment obsession - and most of us can't even own firearms. How about you use yours for something productive for a change, hm? Plenty of guns, no healthcare, the solution seems obvious to me: guns for healthcare. In which way you choose to implement that solution is a you problem, but do it, the same CEOs have been f-ing the healthcare of people all around the world while you're busy debating. You're not isolated, and your CEOs don't just leech on you. Time for some responsibility and accountability for everyone, eh?

lets be so real, on the off chance that shoplifting is actually causing a decrease in profits for these companies, shouldn't we consider that a good thing? like, walmart is objectively evil on various levels. why is hurting their bottom line a bad thing?

I’ll be honest I haven’t shoplifted but that law in California that says you can take up to 900 dollars really does make you think because you can basically just get a few expensive things you want with no consequences and never do it again and move on with your life. I won’t ever shoplift but I can definitely see other people doing that and can’t blame them

Shops don't care about middle class shoplifters, that's why the things in a local store which are just boxes on the shelf are things like washing machine tablets and the like not tony's chocolonely, but yeah like I don't think it matters with the big chains, like the signs you see in the back room saying "oh if you stop people stealing then you'll get a small cash bonus" are like kinda insulting when I'm sure there's more shrinkage than that on just things shops have to throw away because they got broken. The only places I don't think it's good for shoplifters is small stores, even if they're posh it's usually a small team with small margins rather than the massive profits you get in big stores. Also I find it interesting how I've never been followed round in stores (mixed middle class) but my white working class friend gets followed round way more often.

There is a different way to get the economy working downtown but they don't want to do it. If they converted the commercial real estate into residential, they'd lower the home prices, restart the local economy and it'd be a win-win for everyone but no, they don't want it to be a win-win for everyone.

If I had waited until my 30 's I would not have had kids. I was 21 and stupid. My kids are not happy nor gratefull adults. They constantly remind of how poor we were and how stressed and grouchy I was. I wish I could have been a better mom instead of worrying about earning enough to give them material things. I wish I would have been a stay at home mom. Being a mom is the most important job, with no pay ,or recognition for sacrifices we make. Mothers should be compensated for staying home and caring for their children. I worked to pay before care and aftercare for my children. I missed important school activities because I couldn't take a couple of hours off to see my kids' aaccomplishment. I regret working so hard and never caught up ,and lost everything.

Dopamine detox is like dieting. Depending on your strategy its a good idea. If your plan is to go on a diet, lose some weight, and then come off the diet, its essentially pointless to go on the diet because all the negative effects of unhealthy eating will just come right back when you get off the diet. If youre plan is to make permanent changes to your diet, then its extremely productive because it benefits you long term. Dopamine is the same way. If your plan is to temporary stop consuming cheap dopamine, youre effectively doing nothing because that means youll eventually start consuming again. If your plan is to make permanent changes to your behaviour however, then youll get long term benefits. Examples. Deciding youre gonna stop over drinking for a few weeks vs deciding you are permanently done drinking (or overdrinking if you can easily moderate). If your plan is to stop doomscrolling social media for week youre doing no good long term. If your plan is to permanently avoid doomscrolling, youre doing a great thing long term. Instead of going to the extreme in the short term, i think most people are better off making realistic small changes to their habits and letting these small changes compound over the years. Not saying dopamine fasting is bad, it can definitely help you get started, but your fundamental goal should be permanent changes, not temporary ones.

There a problem with those numbers that other countrys pay per person for healthcare... yes places like britain spend half off America but there are NHS strike every year for a decade or longer en every time the gov want or needs more money they try to cut things from healthcare. Same here in the Netherlands. To run it somewhat decend is should cost around 7k. 5,5k is to little for sure
