4 REASONS TO LOVE 'IN-BETWEEN TWISTS'

Hair-lo folks,
As mentioned all over my Instagram page (Naturally_High_Hair), I oddly often find myself preferring the look of my in-between twists to my originally styled twists due to the added volume. I consider them a treat at the end of a more tightly twisted style. There are other reasons I like them though: they save time, they reduce manipulation, they mimic loose hair and they can be washed without looking a mess. Watch this video for a clear explanation as to why I delay re-twisting my hair and also to see what the process looks like.
Give me your feedback! :)

Thanks for your comment. I didn't know she kept her hair in the same twists she washed it in. Would love to have a mane like hers! :)

Naturally High we all want her kinda mane lol. I don't think she washes with the twists in but she does leave her hair in loose twists all the time for the reasons you mentioned. It resembles loose hair, less breakage and it's easier to move and style. I try washing with twists in but they always unravel. What's your secret?

@@NaturallyHigh Yea, she doesn't unravel them. She usually twists the loose twists to wash them so it's twists made up of twists and then unravels them back to the loose twists once dry. TK, her twin, does the same but with braids.

Your hair looks gorgeous. I had to flip back to the beginning to re-read the warning/apology because I wanted to be sure I'd understood properly! That tipped bun is lovely - if you hadn't mentioned it, I would have assumed that was purposeful and beautiful. I almost never wear twists out in public because mine look wrecked so quickly that it didn't seem worth the effort to me. I see if half-twists might be a game-changer!

I recently started washing my hair in twists because it saves water and time but I need to add product and detangle then retwist (if I'm not doing a W&G) or else my hair gets really bad knots especially at the roots. I'm afraid my hair would get matted if I left loose twists in my hair for that long, especially if I didn't retwist them first. I picture the nightmarish detangling session after. So nope this one is not for me.

I never wash loose twists. I rarely wash regular twists. And if I wash twists, I braid them. I find the best success with avoiding tangles and mats by washing braids. I cycle between braids and twists to detangle and clean up parts.

Thank you for this advice. My hair tangles very badly even in normal twists (I have fine hair and the back of my hair is looser than the front so it just unravels by itself). I think this will work well with my hair in braids 👍🏾👍🏾

I usually start with loose hair after having my hair in twists for 3 to 4 weeks. Currently I'm in a protective style and have been for 3 weeks. I only redid my perimeter after a cowash that left stray hairs (baby hairs) coiled up around my perimeter. I've used edge laying product before but my 4 c hair laughs those off. I will try loose twists. The less manipulation the better

Hey Girlie, my protective styling has become ridiculous due to laziness... I had bra strap length, I just put a chunkie braid in my hair like a ponytail braid and I rock it! I felt guilty because I got so lazy this winter I haven't wash my hair for 2 weeks but I unravelled the braid 2 hydrate it today and my hair was visibly longer 😲! I got shook maybe this is what my hair likes 2 be completely left alone, plus it's stretching my hair wow. Now I think why bother with long ass hairstyles, I will eventually let my hibernate with a wig on it!
@NaturallyHigh
@NaturallyHigh 5 жыл бұрын
That sounds fantastic. It also sounds as though it's a pretty hairstyle. Honestly, that's the key and you've found it. Wearing your hair in these two plaits and then taking them out to wash and re-style will help you gain those inches. I'm really happy for you and tempted to try out a similar style myself. If only I could do semi-decent French plaits on my thick hair!

@@NaturallyHigh Your hair is absolutely gorgeous but you're more organized than myself... You have really found a method that suits your hair, and you keep it detangled as you go along. My hair clearly loves minimal level of manipulation, so I decided to put into cornrow throughout the whole winter protected by a wig or a turban... I will wash, condition and moisturise every week then every 2 weeks I will refresh them 👊

I normally take my twists down and work with my fro but right now I have yarn braids in and I have a pretty busy schedule coming up. I have no time to be pulling out,wash,detangling, then parting to put back the same twists.....nope stop doing that. However, what is important is that when it is loose and detangled..you take the time to part it well so that you have defined sections that you can wash, untwist individually and retwist and not have a lot of mixing. Yes I approve the method...the first time will take long but after you can relax on next sessions....aumm why ma comment suh long🤔

Twisting is such a great style when you don’t want to keep manipulating ur hair that’s why I do it all the time. I try to redo my twist and make them loose, but I always have the issue of having individual strands of hair in different sections which makes it hard to re-twist them. Is there a technique that u use to help with that so doing loose twist won’t be such a hassle?

@@NaturallyHigh Goodness! IEvery time I think I get it, I'm even more confused! I really think you need to hold our hands a little bit more and do baby steps. You do different types of twists that I'm not sure what to start with. Frustrated...also, for us shorter hair girls, we can't just throw out hair into buns etc so even more frustrating. I need styles that if I have to go to a red carpet event etc my hair is presentable? I'm not bothered about work or just bring out and about as I can rock a trendy hat or heafwrap. Looking to invest in wigs but not really keen and don't want to depend on them. As for the Her Given Hair wig that you showcased, it's beautiful but too expensive for me @ $439-549. and I haven't even considered shipping and taxes when it arrives into the UK? The 'natural looking' wigs here arent that great either. Sorry if I'm coming across in a negative way but I'm just expressing my thoughts of what many shorter haired 4ç girls might be feeling. Especially when trying to find ways of retaining length. You really do inspire us but we need that extra love and support. I'm now even thinking of doing cornrows and following the rest of your advice as the frustration is making me flit back and forth as I just want to get started! 😉

Most people who wash their hair in twists squeeze in the products. So rub scalp with the shampoo and squeeze into strands in downward motion a couple of times. Then rinse. When you rinse it long enough it all comes out since the hair is twisted so loosely. I do my whole routine in twists before I style my hair. I detangle in the very beginning with a prepoo.
