It is still my favorite video. Many thanks to its creators and the lovely pilates coach. It is still pretty intense, and this coach's peaceful smile feels creepy and sarcastic when you are seating. But you try to keep up with your virtual friend. I put the sound off, and listen to fantasy books with Voiceover. This video is mostly focused on the core muscles, and you need to combine stuff like this other activities, something cardiovascular, or other similar videos for other muscle groups. But this one is still the best for the press muscles. Life today I did it early in the morning and very proud about this.

This workout mostly focusing on upper body, abs, obliques, back, chest, arms, shoulders etc and by focusing I mean REALLY focusing, my abs were on fire 😄 But there is hardly any glute and hamstring exercise so personally I'm going to do a short thighs and glute workout after this one to make sure I work my whole body.

This is an excellent workout. However, it does ignore your legs and focuses strongly on arms and core. I switch out a few of the exercises with some leg work that I learned from a pilates class to balance it. You also might want to add some extra stretching in as well. As for the magic circle, a pilates ball and a set of hand weights does the trick. One thing--it can strain the neck at first no matter how hard one tries to do everything perfectly. This workout has no planks involved, so if you have painful hands this is the workout for you! She reminds you of your breathing, but I was taught to exhale when doing the "work" part of an exercise in order to train my stomach to be flatter, so I switch the order.

I like the voice actually. It is not disturbing i dont know why people hate it 😁It is hard to follow the exercise without the voice instruction and I have to rush the moves to check the video all the time and because of the rush my posture could be bad and this makes the workout to go waste because doing the moves wrong, not to mention causing some injures on the neck or something. I hope you understand what i meant because eng is not my mother language :)

Ever single movement puts a stress on the neck. May people do NOT have good core strength using neck muscles to compensate. I personally have cervical neuralgia and in ever class have been given an alternative to AVOID the constant stress on the neck. Crunches are under scrutiny for this reason and some acknowledgement is needed of this concern

7:47 - I have a bit of trouble with this one, I'm really not sure I'm doing it right as I don't see as much movement as the model and I just don't seem to be able to move the belly on its own. :/ Is there a trick to making that little movement? Other than that, I really like the video: this particular model is very encouraging to look at, she has a very sweet smile! I find that if I get a bit discouraged, I just look over at the screen and get back to it after I see her expression.

Unfortunately slow motion is not an option on KZbin. However you can do that on our website. The movement is a subtle one but with practice you can exhale rapidly while contracting your abs. Navel to spine and hold. She's also on our free App in case you're traveling.

For the exercises where the circle is between the legs or between the hands, you can use a ball. For the exercises where the circle is used to stretch the legs, you can either use bands (if you have them) or a scarf.

Great marketing strategy. Hire fitness models for video shoots. Have them perform the workouts to make it seem as if this is their normal workouts. Fool people into believing these workouts will achieve the same physique. Profit.
@NSSTalks

Lovely Moonchild There is actually no real evidence to suggest pilates can "tone" or help for fat loss. Pilates is something that has been popularized, because of a tradition. It's largely ineffective at it's claims. The easiest to tackle is the helping fat loss. Pilates burns very very few calories during a workout. Your body just simply isn't doing enough work to burn many calories. It's better than nothing, but when compared to other forms of exercise, not very effective. You'd be better off skipping pilates and doing some cardio if fat loss is your goal. Now, for my favorite, the "toning" claim. Toning is a bullshit term. You can make a muscle bigger or smaller. You can also lose or gain fat, not spot fat removal, but eventually if you lose enough fat you'll remove it in that spot. The only true way to make an area look more toned is to either gain muscle or lose fat in that area. Pilates is largely ineffective at either of these when compared to other forms of exercise. Pilates can improve muscular endurance in the areas being worked, but I cannot see much benefit to overall health or performance in most cases since pilates seems to focus on isolation movements. These isolation movements are strategically done, because it is easy to get them burning quickly. This burning doesn't really mean much more than a lactic acid build up in your muscle. It won't grow it in any way. It will only make you be able to do that exercise longer. Pilates very likely can improve flexibility, but that's just about the only true benefit I can find. However, this can be done by just simply stretching as well. Lastly, I'd like to mention the model. It's actually the norm in the fitness industry to hire models that don't do a certain program or use a certain product for videos or advertisements. The person making the video wanted a certain look. They wanted an attractive woman with an athletic looking physique. They couldn't care less how she achieved this. This is true for everything though, not just pilates. Bodybuilding programs use big muscular men to promote bullshit products and programs all the time. That's not how the model got his muscle mass, but he'll take a paycheck to say it is.

Well, I wouldn't deny that with at proper diet, cardio, and pilates she could get this figure. However, the question is how much is pilates actually doing? My guess is less than 5%, maybe even much less. She's mainly just lean, not really much muscle, so I'm giving nutrition the largest percentage easily. You can actually achieve just being lean without any actual exercise. I just wouldn't recommend it for health, and you'd have to eat much less. Also, the reality is genetics play the largest role in how she looks. As for you, I have my doubts pilates has done much to change you appearance, especially since you are probably doing some cardio and diet as well. Many people will actually credit the wrong thing for results. The best and most common example would be crediting crunches for achieving 6pack abs. The reality is diet is by far the most important role in this, and it's been shown that crunches aren't actually as effective as many people think for developing your abdominals. You'll actually grow much more abs and core strength from weight lifting with ease, not even focusing on the core. Lastly, on your personal experience you mentioned it being a short period of time. What do you consider a regular time? I'm sorry to say, but this is likely placebo effect. It's actually very common. Go to your local gym and look at the teenager that's worked out one day flexing in the mirror. He thinks he's grown muscles all the sudden. Even something like weight training that can put on significant amounts of muscle you won't see much results in a short period of time. It takes time. Also, personal experience aka anecdotal evidence is something that science refuses to trust. It's what birthed broscience. Lastly, there is actually a similar practice in the casual weightlifting community, mainly among women, of lifting extremely light weights for super high repetitions, and it's usually mainly isolation exercises to what they consider their problem areas. They all tend to look exactly the same every year. The reason they aren't getting results is the same reason pilates doesn't give you the results they claim. Furthermore, I don't need to try pilates to know it doesn't work. I wouldn't waste my time as it wouldn't benefit me in any way. There is just so much fallacy in that argument as well. I wouldn't ever tell you how do you know crack is bad? Have you tried it? No, that's not different. I also don't think you need to lift weights. That's a decision up to you. The only thing I recommend for everyone is cardio and proper diet.

Lovely Moonchild The problem with this reply is I don't think you understand what I meant by it being placebo effect. I don't doubt you may have seen results. However, my guess is the pilates doing it is placebo effect. You are giving it credit that other areas actually did.This is actually very common. Use the crunches giving someone a 6pack comparison I made in my last comment. The diet gave them the 6pack. Crunches are an outdated exercise for the most part. Your core is stronger than that, so it needs more resistance to actually grow. Now, weighted crunch variations definitely do work. The problem with pilates for me is they wouldn't give me any results that could benefit me, and the few benefits I know it can give, muscular endurance and flexibility, I can get just as easily and more effectively in another manner. The problem with the toning or tightening your body benefit is that it's born out of a myth. You cannot tone a muscle. Pilates doesn't provide enough resistance to actually cause hypertrophy, so there will be no physical change to the muscle. There's just no real evidence to suggest that pilates can do this claim, and I cannot think of any real benefits other than what I've mentioned. The toning benefit is a myth. Are there any other benefits? I can guarantee you that you would reach results with a proper resistance training program in 1 month than you would in 1yr of pilates.

Lovely Moonchild Sadly, I've only seen anecdotal evidence of 99% of the benefits of pilates. I'm yet to see anything that's been proven to be effective about pilates other than muscular endurance and flexibility. There is nothing else. Most people think they know about fitness, but very very few people really do. If you go to a public gym at least 90% of the people don't know what they are doing. Some of them aren't too far off, so they get decent results. Some of them are so far off they never make any substantial results. I don't have any direct proof, but some of the words you've used makes me think you were and still are clueless in the weight room. It's not insulting you. Most people don't.It's normal. I'm not guessing. I've actually researched and learned how exercise can effect the human body. Nothing in these pilates videos are going to do anything to change the physical appearance of your body. I'll post a link that discusses why pilates is a poor choice for exercise. www.health101.org/art_Why_Not_Pilates.htm By the way, I know you can find hundreds of pilates sites that will tell you how awesome pilates are. I can also find websites that will support any bullshit theory someone has. People will always make website to support their beliefs no matter how wrong or dumb they are. The toning benefits of pilates is 100% a myth. It's also a commonly known myth among true fitness experts. A few links: www.bodybuilding.com/fun/goulet5.htm scoobysworkshop.com/toning/ exercise.about.com/cs/weightloss/a/toning.htm Toning is just one myth thrown around in the fitness industry. Another very common one is you must take supplements to build muscle. It's complete nonsense and most supplements are useless. Another one is that you need 1g or protein for 1lbs of body weight. This isn't true either. The list is endless. There are also tons of people trying to sell you gimmick programs and other things. The reality is the vast majority of the fitness industry is bullshit. They only want your money. They don't care at all about getting you in shape or reaching your goals.

Lovely Moonchild Once again, you've failed to mention any actual benefits of pilates. Please just name one. I've already disproven toning, but you insist it's still real. Is the Tooth Fairy real too? Now, I'm 100% sure you are clueless on weight training. I also think you are clueless about fitness in general. The entire spiel about looking at them and all that nonsense as enough proof it works is rather stupid, and it shows that you don't have a real answer to why it works or not. Oh, a dirty little secret, most personal trainers are idiots too. All you have to do pay for it, study a book, and pass a written test. It's really pointless for educating or proving someone to be knowledgeable on fitness. From what I've seen, most personal trainers are not really any more knowledgeable than your average gym rat. The only difference is they wear a uniform and are confident is claiming they know what they are doing. The entire having different opinions thing doesn't make sense either. Having a different opinion and going against proven science is just stupid. There are tons of myths inside the fitness community that still exist, and the majority of people still believe the myths. Kind of like how you still believe in toning. Something that should be mentioned. I used the crunches and 6pack as an example of another form of exercise that isn't largely effective. I never said that's what women want. Some do, but not all. Also, lifting doesn't really make women that big. Women lack the testosterone to grow large muscles. Here's an example of friend of mine that actually lifts heavy. braskitraining.com/caseyshipp/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/casey-collage-for-wb.jpg The idea of women getting big and muscular from weight lifting is another myth. It's a myth started by people not being aware that big muscular women are on steroids. Without steroids, most women would struggle to get as muscular as my friend. Lastly, I'm not the one blindly believing something. I'm afraid you are. I've actually looked into what works and what doesn't. Pilates main sell to people is toning, and that is a proven myth. I've just found too much evidence supporting this opinion for it to be worthwhile to even experiment with trying it for anecdotal evidence. Do I need to mention anecdotal evidence cannot be trusted? You are suffering from something that is known as confirmation bias. Look up the meaning if you don't know it.
