i still cant recognise porsches so ill just say, "hey there, nice 911"
@benny35635 жыл бұрын
5:02 The Reason might be the German language. In German, the 911 is called "Neun Elf" which means "nine eleven" a 910 would be called "Neun Zehn" which sounds the same as "Neunzehn" (19).

Thanks so much, this made so much freaking sense.🤪 I have asked so many porsche owners , and they look at me as if I asked for spare change.🤷🏾♂️

Thank you. Now I kinda understand. I wish they jjust did a 911-2, 911- different# . Even 911-2a to keep models with each year. I will stay somewhat confused. Great video 👍🏼

Great video on the topic, I was surprised with its overall quality. It deserves more views, I hope KZbin's algorithm didn't muffle it down by connecting it to 9 eleven tragedy. Unfortunately it might be the case, since algorithms often overlook the context

Great explanation! I too think they messed up. Yes, 9XX is very Porsche, but using it for both model and version numbers is unnecessarily confusing. Counting down after counting up is also confusing. Why not use random project names internally (such as ‘Project Purple’), and clear version names externally based on release date (such as ‘mid-2021’)? Prevents confusion with model names, and offers an endless supply of version/project names.

Great video. I learned a lot. Including that in order to understand Porsche model numbers I just need to memorize which number belongs to which car. Since I am not great with remembering numbers I am doomed to just referring to 911s as 911s and nothing more. 😄

Late to the party here but your video made me think - if they're so hung up about numbers starting with 9 then why not go 9001 and continue from there? They're just project numbers after all... Missing out 9000 because Saab already did that one :)

Porsche: The one car company where if you put two seemingly identical cars next to each other, and one is $500K and the other is $25K, and I could not tell you which is which, as they look pretty much the same to me, and their naming is equally confusing. Sure some of them stand out, but a lot of them really seem like the same car with slightly different tweaks. I guess the cool thing about that is you can own the $25K version and everyone is like "oooh a Porsche", and you can own the $500k version, and drive downtown in stealth mode with only hard core entheausiasts knowing what it is.

When they ran out of 9s, they could have just added an X, restart the numbering and that would have sounded cooler than going backwards. Example: 911 X01 to X999. Should have been sufficient for a couple decades. Or just add the year. 911 2018. Problem solved.

As a German, it just pains me to hear how much more you know about these cars than me, while at the same time horribly butchering the pronounciation of the brand itself throughout the video: Porsche -> ther is an e at the end, you know. Anyway great video.
