A Visit to Tavares - “America’s Seaplane City”

While in Florida recently, staff from EAA decided to stop in at “America’s Seaplane City,” in the state where there are more registered seaplane pilots than any other in the nation.
The city started by building a top-quality seaplane facility on Lake Dora in the heart of downtown. The base has all the things required for seaplane operations. Special seaplane docks, a grass beaching area, and an amphibian ramp to taxi up from the water. It was a very fun time!

Don't miss The Monster Splash this fall. The fly in will be Saturday, October 21st and we get to use pumpkins for the bomb ammunition. The kids will have an opportunity to decorate the pumpkins before we hand them off to the pilots. Fun for all

I am a part of the civil war reenactment there and last year the hurricane destroyed much of their docks if I remember correctly, we had to load and unload on the grassy shoreline. I hope they have it all back up and running again.

Go there almost every month for lunch/dinner or just to watch. Always some action! They have rebuilt all the docks and have special seaplane docks along with the ramp, dry parking. Neat small city.

Awesome to start with one of the best fountains ever!!! Avalon at Catalina Island use to have a lot of seaplane traffic. They need to look at what you are doing.

I miss Tavares. I used to hangar my Searey at Apoka and was always over there. Now I live in an aipark in North Carolina, and there is nothing like that anywhere up here.... NC lakes are beautiful but are not seaplane friendly like lakes and marinas in Florida...

Yes it is very nice and well organized . But using cantaloupe ( Food ) for target practice ! Come on people there are human beings who are starving all over this world and in need of any decent food they can get .
